One of the things that jumped out at me about Zooble early on was that, where everyone else uses gendered pronouns, they seem to prefer 'they/them', a preference everyone else seems to recognize -- the only one who diverged from that was Jax, who reacted to Zooble getting eaten by the Gloink Queen with, "Eh, *he'll* be fine." It's possible that that was a mistake, but it's equally possible that Zooble was transitioning prior to arriving in the Circus -- there's a lot we don't know for sure about them, but the visible discomfort they feel towards their body felt _very_ familiar to me. (AMAB and trans-curious, so it could just be projection, but I feel like Zooble might be in a similar boat.)

So according to Gooseworx, episode 3 was Kinger and Zooble's spotlight episode, with the 4th episode set to be Gangle's spotlight episode, then Ragatha, then Jax, then "wait and see" for the rest. I'm kind of nervous at the idea that this is Zooble's spotlight episode, not so much that we're sharing it with Kinger, but that it feels like Kinger got more attention in this episode than Zooble. Even Caine kind of steals the spotlight from Zooble a bit in this episode, mostly because he can't read Zooble emotionally and see that Zooble going "nevermind" and "forget it" aren't actual commands but just Zooble lashing out at how insensitive he's being about Zooble's whole problem, a problem that he thinks he's solved and thus can move on to what he actually cares about. The thing is, it's not just that Zooble hates their body and wants something different, it's that they've been trying out new body parts since the day they arrived in the Digital Circus and haven't found anything that makes them feel "good". I really like this, and I want to see more of it from Zooble, but given that Zooble skips out on the adventures, I feel like there might not be good opportunities to actually dive into their character going forward. Still, I'm putting my faith in Gooseworx and the people at GLITCH that they know what they're doing with Zooble. One last thing, about the whole "gender dysphoria" thing, I find it fascinating since Zooble apparently uses they/them pronouns, not necessarily because they identify as non-binary, but because "they don't even know what they are". There's also a point where Jax said "he'll be fine" in the first episode when referring to Zooble getting eaten by the Gloink Queen. Apparently the script said "they" and I guess Michael Kovach just read it wrong, or perhaps it was the Closed Caption that was wrong, but either way, Gooseworx excused this by saying Zooble will accept any pronouns, so maybe they're gender fluid? It feels like the crux of Zooble's character is that they don't even know what they're supposed to be, both on a physical level (well, as physical as the Digital Circus can be) and on a mental level. This, coupled with their discomfort with their body as a whole, would explain why Zooble tends to be very cranky and irritable most of the time, which is an aspect about Zooble I like, especially in comparison to Jax; Jax is an overt jerk whose rudeness stems from him not really caring what other people think, whereas Zooble can be rude but genuinely does care about the people around them. Any time they get mean or rude, it's not in an overtly cruel way like Jax is, and for the most part, it's justified given the situations we've seen them in so far. So yeah, I really like Zooble, but I feel they're underutilized character so far. We'll see if any future episodes can build on what they set up on the third episode!

Love Georgia's analyses, but in this one I must add an opposing opinion. With the clear caveat that mental illnesses are real and it is good to see representation in media, and that we can look at Zooble as a metaphor for dysmorphia. We could be drawn into forgetting that not everything is pathology - feeling bad is every living thing's internal motivator for change. When people feel poor about their body and hit the gym, this isn't necessarily obsessive illness, this is cause and effect. When you have lost somebody or had your life uprooted, your psychiatrist might slap on a label of depression or anxiety and fill you up with xanax, but in reality you're just grieving and adjusting your worldview to a world in which loss and change are intrinsic. And when you find yourself literally in a body that falls apart, lacks symmetry, aesthetics, utility, or simply isn't the one you've had your entire life, it is natural to hate it. It isn't an illness, it's a reasonable reaction to incredibly rotten luck.

The fact that Caine's Self-Esteem induced depression nearly caused an apocalypse was the more eyebrow-raising part of the therapy session and would be interesting as a video. Plus, episode four came out and there were some interesting parts that got me thinking a bit, like... 1. Dangle and her eventual burnout that caused her to run into a bus. 2. Overworking Jax made him more coherent to the others. 3. Ragatha getting drunk by accidental special sauce (Be aware of the Raggedy Andy quote from the 1970s Raggedy Ann and Andy movie in there) 4. Pomni trying to reconnect with Gummigoo leading him to hesitate a bit. Some think that he was confused about Pomni knowing his name and others think that he wants to tell Pomni that he's okay but hesitates because of what happened in Episode 2. What's your take on this?

Honestly, I get Zooble, I really do. Having followed the series from the start, I have to say I'd put it into dysmorphia, simply because not only has Zooble been pretty consistently agender, they haven't displayed any particular concerns with that fact either. What they're upset about is their patchwork nature itself, especially when compared to the more 'stable' identities of the others. It seems to me that everyone in the show clearly displays a specific mental issue, from Zooble's dysmorphia, Caine's unfettered ADHD, Jax's narcissism, Pomni's paranoia,and Kinger's unresolved grief trauma. I'm not sure where Ragatha sits, but... probably traumatic denial, as she seems bent on not really seeing things as bad as they are.

Their coping mechanism is to tolerate. The 9 typically doesn’t have a very strong ego (one’s internal definition of self) because that’s not the most significant struggle they had to/have to overcome.

I never noticed this, but do you think Zooble playing with their little bauble could be picking ? (Like skin picking, some people do that out of nervousness).

Ironically, out of all of the characters, I'd want a body most like Zooble's (or Jax's) if I were stuck somewhere like the Digital Circus, because the other characters' bodies would make *me* dysmorphic and dysphoric.

The therapy scene is why I'd like to hear your thoughts about Cain. Do you think he's intentionally a supervillain or a kid who doesn't know how to make friends and is doing it wrong.
@Danb-fk5iw3 ай бұрын
Gooseworx has gone on record stating that Caine isn’t intentionally malicious-it’s just that his programming and the circumstances of the Circus prevent him from giving his guests what they actually need, and he’s left stuck trying to ‘help’ in the only way he knows how.

If you freeze the screen when zooble is holding the sketch pad in the therapy session😮, you will see that zooble has drawn a dress and a pair of female legs. Also, various female eyes. Is this a hidden easter egg?

2:07 Zooble isn't really opening, they make it worse since Caine as an AI takes the "never mind" literally 2:53 Zooble said "forget it" so Caine forgets it

I have dysmorphia too. It’s hard to look myself in the mirror because subconsciously my mind has an image of itself and yet it doesn’t fit what I see. I feel like it’s similar to what i actually look like but my eyes don’t agree. My body changes every time I look at it. If I cover my face and think it’s someone else body then I think it’s fine and the same the other way round but together it feels like (on a dramatic example) Sid putting the toys together in Toy Story. It’s doesn’t look right. I turn to my aunt who’s knows this and is honestly, she tells me what body type and shape I am, I trust her to tell me because I don’t trust myself to me. My boyfriend would tell to look in the mirror and list 10 things like, it helped but only with my face, my body still doesn’t feel right. I’m none binary with a eating disorder and trauma so I don’t think I’ll ever be happy with my body, but I can be happy with who I am as a person and honestly if that’s all I have I’ll take it

I honestly think it's both but more body if anything. Zooble was always used to a human body regardless of gender. And yes they do remember what they look like gooseworx confirmed that
@Aflay13 ай бұрын
The best art can be interpreted in many ways. Whether it's body dysmorphia or gender dysmorphia, people can relate to how Caine outright dejects Zooble with his unapologetically self centered behavior. He doesn't insult her either. This isn't about bullying, per-say. This is about how the root of many insecurities can be found in issues that are neglected and unaddressed, especially when people like Caine, who seem to have the power, don't seem to care. And many of us know Caine can't do anything, or we theorize it, we sympathize with him. We often project that sympathy on those people that upset us too. That can lead to feelings of betrayal and resentment when they fail to reciprocate those feelings. When Zooble stared angrily at Caine's drawing of himself, I totally got that. I think it's amazing that Zooble's predicament can touch on such a delicate subject in such a universally understandable way. That is Bluey levels of character writing right there.

Zooble is like my personality & my experience with therapy

I personally believe it’s both! I don’t know why, I struggle with both too and relate to Zooble. They are the only representation I’ve seen that really relates to me the most. I haven’t ever seen any characters like Zooble before in any forms of media, even other queer media. And as a pangender plus sized person, it is the first time I have seen someone like me on screen. Even if they are just a human trapped in an Ai generated carnival.
@HannahBanina3 ай бұрын
Genuine question here: are gender dysphoria and body dysmorphia mutually exclusive, or is it possible Zooble might have both? I know that Zooble officially doesn’t know their gender and is just considered “a Zooble”, but do you think it might be that they’ve forgotten what gender they are during their time in the circus, or maybe that that might’ve been something they carried over with them from their human life?

Honestly I feel like it could very well be the latter

I always thought it was weird how it would take a year for me to look at pictures of myself. After 8-12 months I’m able to look at a selfie and think ‘ok, I actually don’t look as bad as I saw myself in this picture.’ But it takes time. I feel like I look like a different person. It’s hard to distinguish what is depersonalization, gender dysphoria, internalized fatphobia, or maybe even body dysmorphia. A lot of my self portraits have such distorted features and a lot of it is intentional I suppose, but people are often shocked when I show them

A Caine episode would be fantastic! especially with his desperate need to be good at the one thing he is good at or was programmed for (as a former gifted kid I totally don't relate and I'm definitely not projecting)
