Small note on the Talioth if you didn't notice, but they tend to gang up and latch onto large monsters (with their beaks) while they're engaged in fights. Don't know if they do this by themselves, though. Only seems to happen as you hunt another monster.

I've always liked that you're never _really_ a murderhobo in monster hunter. Even in the older games, hunting a monster was usually either because they were threatening a village or trade route, needed capture for research purposes, or was an existential threat to the entire region's ecosystem. ...Or someone was Hongry so you needed to yoink an egg or two... They've also much more overtly stated in Worlds and now in Wilds that the Hunter's Guild is a research organization first and foremost, with hunters being a relatively small group of specialists kinda like a special forces outfit tasked with supporting the scientists in their mission. On an unrelated but interesting note; Yuya Tokuda, the Lead Designer for Wilds, sincerely loves nature. Even without understanding a single word of Japanese you can just hear his enthusiasm whenever he talks about the nerdy little details surrounding the fictional ecology of the spaces his team create. The man _gets_ it, and it really shows!

Some personal thoughts: The Doshaguma packs can be interpreted in different ways. The Alpha could be a dominant male and the smaller one to two star individuals are his mates and offspring, while the lone individuals are bachelor males. Or, the Alpha could be a female and the smaller ones are her cubs, with the lone individuals being recently independent adults. Rey Dau, being a flying wyvern, must have adapted to the ecosystem as the ability to influence climate and geography directly is an elder dragon trait. The gem saying that it is "said to" wield the power of storms is just that, it's only said to, meaning that the supposed trait is attributed to it by the people of the setting. The Sandtide must have been going on for a very very long time on account of how deep the fulgerite structures reach underground. The lightning was probably also a lot more powerful in the past, as even Rey Dau doesn't make those sorts of massive structures. Areas 4 and 5 seems to be a Rath nest to me. It's high up and covered in the bones of the mid-sized prey they prefer, telltale signs of their nesting behavior. Rey Dau can be seen up here as well, so I can imagine them getting into fights with Rathian and Rathalos. I wonder if we'll ever see Rath babies? The fish in the oasis probably have seasonal lifecycles like what many real arid climate fish do. While we don't see the oasis change size any during the change of seasons, it probably goes away during longer fallow seasons, so the fish lay eggs that can survive in the pond bed while the fish themselves die. I wonder what causes the sand to turn blue as it melts and solidifies into glass (that's what fulgerite in real life is, it's glass made from desert sand that was hit by lightning)? It must have a very interesting chemical composition.
@jafartext822919 күн бұрын
It’s possible that the plains close proximity to the scarlet forest, an area that experiences frequent and intense storms, amplifies the frequency and intensity of the sandstorms and associated lightning. And this has been happening for a very long time given the vast, branching fulgurite. This frequent and intense interaction between the two locales makes the fulgurite, which everything in the ecosystem relies on. As for why the monsters and endemic life were acting strange throughout the video, they were bugged unfortunately. I also wanted to add my own speculation for some of the large monsters. Doshaguma’s mane may be for protection, but more specifically protection against themselves. Capcom intentionally made them to seem brutish and savage, and they are also a prevalent and social species, meaning that they probably use their claws and lower tusks to fight each other and other packs of Doshaguma or lone doshagumas. Balahara’s glowing mouth may be for communicating with their own species, making their mouths reminiscent of sarcastic fringe heads in a way, but glowing. Rey dau’s wings having a pattern may either be a trait retained from younger stages of life, or a display feature. Their big fulgurite finger reminds me of steamer ducks, meaning they probably fight each other and other things by “punching” them, if they don’t use the rail gun of course. And speaking of, I think that doshaguma may be a kleptoparasite of other carnivorous monsters, using strength and numbers to overwhelm the opponent. I think that Rey Dau partially evolved electric abilities to intimidate and end conflicts against doshaguma packs with force if needed. I could be wrong about any amount of this, but I think it’s fun speculation.
@marcusaaronliaogo915819 күн бұрын
Who would win? 5 doshagumas or a deviljho?
@jafartext822919 күн бұрын
@ that’s probably a very fair match. They kind of are in a similar idea of a monster done differently. Savage, muscled, and the tenacity and recklessness to strain and pain themselves to even squash the hunter. Doshaguma has a distinct numbers advantage, while deviljho an elemental and size advantage. Honestly should a confrontation start, I think the sheer numbers of Doshaguma would intimidate a deviljho to backing down. But again, I still think this is a fairly even matchup. It’s a shame the capcom really doesn’t give much credit to how influential pack monsters are in encounters against other species.
@marcusaaronliaogo915819 күн бұрын
@@jafartext8229 tbh, this is the first time a pack monster where the pack are within their weight limit since most packs monsters before are small minions and large monster. And doshaguma pack could destroy rey dau if it weren’t for rey daus flight and element usage.
@jafartext822919 күн бұрын
@@marcusaaronliaogo9158 for certain. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rey dau partially evolved into what it is today because of the presence of Doshaguma. Having a looming threat that is beefy, has a numbers advantage, or both would give a selective pressure to evolve ways to avoid conflict from the looming threat as much as possible. In Rey dau’s case it’s flight and being bright and shocking.
@ThatsOk8319 күн бұрын
@@jafartext8229 Imo I don't think it's a fair matchup. I've seen a pack of 4 Doshagumas so going by that they'd tear a Deviljho apart. A single or even 2 is probably not enough to take a Deviljho down tho
@ENDtredecim19 күн бұрын
Maybe the Sandstar has blue coloration because of the consistency of storms that cover this desert area? Cause of how the lightning becomes grounded and can be seen crawling across the sand when it does it could be that the local wildlife avoids that, maybe over time the creature developed that color in order to imitate that crawling lightning so that wherever a threat comes near it begins to dart around and give off an illusion to scare off things trying to eat it?
@OutofPlaceZoologist17 күн бұрын

For the boltgem, the key thing to note is that it says, ' _Said_ to wield the power of a thousand storms', as in this is part of local rumour/myth. That, or it could be some sort of storage device for the bolts it ends up taking, and thats how its able to fire off its railcannon and whatnot

I think the Dark Hornets may be inspired by Cambropachycope, a weird Cambrian arthropod whose head terminates in a single compound eye that looks oddly like a spotlight (which as far as I know didn't actually glow or anything, but still). The Hornets even have stingers that resemble Cambropachycope's telson, too!
@thereptile946719 күн бұрын
Another possible inspiration for the dark hornet might be the Ipnops, sometimes known as the grideye fish, whose face primarity consists of a flat photosensitive plate lacking the usual ocular lenses found in most animals. Basically a crater for a face that only detects the absence or presence of light without giving any definition of the detail.

Perhaps Wedge beetles are like Namib Desert Beetles and collect water from the air and thats why they are found high up in the winds. The water would collect on the hardened, ridged wing casings like the Namib Desert Beetles. (The Wedge beetles are also in a fixed position and respawn infinitely to allow access to higher areas constantly as they are an environmental mechanic) Balaharas mouth also glows because it has rows of eyes along its gums, probably to help it see clearer in the storm or at night (you can see these eyes very clearly in The Hunters Journey trailer)

13:41 I can't believe I didn't notice this but look at the entrance to the fulgurite tunnel again: Based by the material surrounding it, the fulgurite carved a hollow straight through sedimentary rock - not sand but actual *solid rock* - that was already there. And not just that, look at the direction that the molten glass is flowing, it's all splashing outward and *away* from the cavern and there's a large pool of it in front where the glass presumably spilled out into and cooled, this suggests that the source of the heat didn't come from the sky, it came from underground. Lighting doesn't do that, lightning doesn't usually strike upward, lightning doesn't have enough power to turn that quantity of stone instantly into liquid glass, lightning doesn't have the kinetic energy to *push* that much molten glass out of the way. Whatever created that cavern, it wasn't a lightning strike.
@spacegoldfish948119 күн бұрын
yeah, one of my friends pointed it out, whatever made some of the Fulgurite formations in the Plains wasn't "natural" at all, and would've had to have been conducted or caused by something else. what that something is, we have yet to see of course.

The lightning rods appear to be manmade as they have actual anchoring you can see below them in some areas like Rey Dau's nest. Additionally, while the large circular structure appears to be natural evidenced by the other one in the distance, that other one doesn't attract lightning or glow, while the one in the plains does do that and has the same markings as the artificial rods on its inside which can be seen from Rey Dau's nest again. The structure was probably modified for some purpose. Given that it attracts lightning and the stones in Rey's nest store lightning energy it was probably modified to absorb and store the energy.

39:16 usually you can find a rare endemic life here. It’s a crab with an old wyverian coin that looks like the monster hunter wilds logo, but it didn’t spawn for you

39:31 Occasionally you can see the crab there.

You could use the capture net to gather insects in World, but it is slower than grabbing them, since you inspect the net afterward. If you try to grab bugs by hand or with the slinger without the net in Wilds, you take a part from it and let it free, which takes longer than if you capture the bug and keep it.

I'm pretty sure the sounds Rey Dao makes are because the sand on it gets turned into fulgarite and scrapes against itself as it moves and breaks. That's also why it would look like the fulgarite on the ground.

1:34 You could always catch it in World. I know because I was looking for Endemic life that way and was surprised to catch bitterbugs and alike that way. It will also automatically turn stuff like flashbugs and hermit crabs into the items they usually give such as flash pod and thorn pod.

I see that you've put the graphics down too, Because all the footage of the beta that i saw showed the game with very bad graphics (at first i was like "i know it's a bete but there's no way capcom would release a beta with graphics that bad") but it turns out, the reason all the footage i saw had bad graphics is because the people recording those footage had to turn down the graphics because the game is litteraly cooking their graphics card.

It's cute that you worried about not being able to capture the monogamous pair of lizards together, I would have absolutely done the same even though it doesn't truly matter to an imaginary creature in a game lmao

58:20 what's cool about Talioth is they do not have teeth, instead their beak is highly modified as in pelagornithid birds. Their scales overlap and are very large, significantly different from dinosaur scales and more like those that are modified from feathers. Both of these traits suggest Talioth are actually highly derived birds, whose ancestors were completely feathered and toothless. Also their beaks similar to crossbills could help with processing Ceratonoth carcasses, peeling off plates to get at the flesh beneath. Pretty epic

I found out that if you smack Rey Dau’s wings the blue falls off. It’s actually just fulgurite. And they also lose the metallic rubbing crystals sound while flying too

1:34:40 I think those are fulgarite layers made from lightning. I don’t know much about animals but I think they’re for storing electricity to use later when there isn’t sandtides

I actually had a unique experience with this game's beta and my GPU. I played the beta on the built-in GPU of my computer, and it didn't do so well which I had figured it wouldn't once I saw those PC spec requirements and my lack of VRAM by a margin of 3-4 GB. But then I got a newer (surprisingly cheap for such a great upgrade by the way) GPU that had 8 GB of VRAM and got it put in a few hours before the beta ended and it ran way better and I didn't see any of the horrific polygon monsters anymore. I mean I still had to use upscaling to get optimal fps on the highest settings but I was pretty close to running it decently. If I ran it on medium I probably would be getting 60 fps without upscaling. I have a feeling the Monster Hunter dev team knew that this was going to be a problem and they've already said the game's in a better place so I'm not going to worry right now. I will start to worry if they drop a second demo and it seems like there was only marginal improvements though.
