Great video! I really appreciate the in-depth analysis of the background, but I didn't mind the version with the black background either! I once tried a low-key version of that without the black screen. Basically a very bright key light and then lower the exposure in camera so the background turns almost black. Yours definitely looks more authentic and it's the style I use the most. Thanks!

Also a quick tip when choosing LED bulbs, pay attention to their color temperature (warm/neutral/cool white) *and* CRI (color rendering index) which is very important in the light quality. Look for a CRI of 90 or more for best results.

Dr. Julie, I just rewatched your lighting video, (AGAIN), and I am just amazed at the content. You put so much work into them, that you effortlessly (at least for me) allow us to absorb the practical and theory at the same time, so that we just understand WHY something works, and we know how to replicate that. I hate to repeat myself, but....BRAVO! Wow, Doc. You are amazing. With most youtube videos, one viewing is more than enough. With your videos, they just get better with each viewing. Great job.

Indie cyberpunk musicians here. Your channel is great. We've discovered similar setups from experimentation, and like to see what others are doing. Folx will do well with your tips and we can add that for recording, the Shure SM7b (plus interface and Focusrite ISA One preamp) has been the top for us (we use Macs and PCs), but for other mic options, one could use your mic suggestions, or even go with a canny but affordable Blue Snowball USB mic if they just need a cheap upgrade from their internal mic. Your green screen tips are also great and one of us has even used a bright green cardboard from Office Depot suspended by hooks in the ceiling before. Love how you cover creative uses for tools as well as tool options for different budgets.

Hey guys! Thanks for the nice comment and for sharing your gear tips too. I have been eyeing the SM7b...it takes that podcast voice to the next level, but didn't realize it was popular with musicians too! What's Folx? Also, brilliant hack with the Home Depot cardboard.
@Invocationarraymusic
@Invocationarraymusic 3 жыл бұрын
@@JulieSchiro Folx is just folks with a spotlight on inclusivity. Not a mandatory spelling. MJ used the SM if I recall. But yeah it handles all kinds of singing better than any mics we’ve used or investigated. With the right preamp and interface, it’s gold. Makes any genre of singing or podcasting way easier to mix too.

Great job on this one - really appreciate the attention to details. Some of us might be sitting facing a wall, so won't have physical space for the diffusers.. I found that a powerful cold-light LED strip on the back of my monitor frame will reflect off the wall diffused and ready for a zoom session...

I enjoy your subtle humor. Solid info also. At 72, I tell my husband I look younger on ZOOM with "enhance appearance" turned on than I do in real life.

What a welcome relief to find you, Julie. I've been watching hundreds of videos toward upgrading my teaching act. I so appreciate not only your funny, clear presentations and multitude of facial expressions, but also your integrity and your chill relation to the whole affiliate link thing. (I sure would like to see people linking to other than A'zon; wouldn't that be novel). Would you please do a video (or response here) re: lighting and audio for classes where the teacher is up and moving in a space that's 10-15' /3-4 m. square or so - not huge. I look forward to all of your future postings!

Thank you Julie, I have had to explain these things to speakers and professors so many time over the past few months and now I have a go to video to send. Plus you are likely more charming than I so they won’t tune out after 30 seconds. 😄
