Zoom makes products that are well made and affordable, but their algorithms have definitely been behind the curve. I will listen closely to sound demos of this and decide based on that!

I took a punt and purchased the 50g plus for £91 off amazon around Oct 24. ( was discounted at the time ) . It’s a nightmare to use on a peddle board. The pads surrounding the foot switch are so easily pressed by accident , which results in either changing the whole patch string , or selecting a different effect within a patch. Another disadvantage is that you are required to insert a line selector before each string of effects ( patch) so that they may all be switched off or on together. However, the patch name is not displayed , only line selector is shown , so using the device live, you are never sure what string of effects you have as the name is not shown . Thirdly, the power socket is deeply recessed, and will not take a standard 9v power jack. I purchased an extender , which works, but it now protrudesand is easily knocked . The sounds are fine and i use it to add boost and delay to solis etc . I will be moving onto a better device ( helix or headrush) soon !

Porting of previous effects would actually be a plus for me. I love my old MS-50G's vintage (CE) chorus sound, it's amazing. Looks like the A/D, D/A conversion and sample rate are the same as the original.

I have the pedal and its alright but im kinda pissed. the old pedal had way more effects and i just spent 15$ on the camera adapter you need to plug in with the app (that also cost 1$) and now all that just to find that there is no new effects on the app despite claims off being able to download new effects eberywhere.

*It's ultimately the same processor they've been building since the G5 series with valves, but obviously trimmed off certain features, advanced their microcontroller architecture but are still relying on the same style of firmware. I'm certain it's all been updated in sampling due to new semiconductor architecture and remaining current and competitive in this product industry.* The bottom line for me is my G5 with the valve is still the best processor I have ever owned and it's 10+ years old. *By creating this pocket sized, full featured amp and general effects modeler, I'm going to take the "risk".* If they've redone everything, it will be worth every cent. I still put them miles above Line 6, equal to or greater than Boss etc. *To this day, the 9.2tt with twin valves is the best overall unit I've heard and it's 20 years old.* IMO and strangely, I'm actually a college educated electrical/electronics engineer, Zoom still has the superior product but priced so low people don't take them seriously. *Meanwhile, out of over a dozen amps, the Katana is the worst one I own and people falsely praise them to no end in social media because Boss paid them to do it.* Those same huge following retards put the Katana over Zoom products which is pathetically corrupt.

Same + IR cabs for me. Hopefully it has more memory and more capable CPU as well. Owning 2x MS-70CDR (one modded and one stock) I'm still waiting for the whole lineup to appear and to see which direction will they go with the software.

I would be interested if it has an actual bypass mode (true or not I don't care), and mostly if it doesn't have the awful high-pitched noise that totally ruins the original pedal.

From what I could tell, the high pitch noise was only prevalent when it was connected via USB on the original

That's a good question - they've dropped all 5 new models for the start of 2024, but no Bluetooth one as of yet. Could be the same as the 100BT though, where it's a mid-cycle refresh.

the amp models werent the best , i mean i liked the fender stuff and then the ms1959 . i came up with something i used way too much which was the zmp1 thru the allien , with the filter delay set up like the same way EVH used a phaser . that patch was something special . i loved the zoom stuff . its just that i went and upgraded to nux for better amp modeling .

The multi-layered IR tech (ala the G1 four) is a distinct improvement for, basically, the same price and a better way to around the unit.

The only time I experienced noise on the original was when I was running USB at the same time (to access the editor). I believe they'll fix this for the new version, as the editor was a hacky workaround on the MS50G, but a dedicated feature of the MS50G+

@@scottbecker3485 DON'T DO IT!!!!!! I sold the "old one" and regretted doing it! The + model has less effects, worse sound, bad lecture & navigation. I gave it back and I purchased the original MS-50 again. Now there's even a non official 'Zoom Effect Manager 2' online that allows to upload bass effects into the MS-50.

There’s the “hold delay” which I’m assuming is going to be like either the glitchy stutter effect from the DD3 or the EHX Freeze, but no dedicated glitch delay as far as I can tell

I can't find if it has tap tempo. The manual isn't clear about it and talks about a bpm effect module. Does anyone know anything about it?

It does, but it’s kind of weird - you have to add a BPM module into your signal chain as one of the blocks in your preset. There’s no external tap tempo control available

So they got rid of the amp and cabs. whats the point of any cdr plus then? and has less effects than the original? and didnt bother including a simple IR loader. i have my ms 70 cdr. this doesnt seem like an upgrade at all.

Difficult to tell if they got rid of the amps and cabs - they effects list has a lot of amp models as if they were drive pedals, so I’m assuming there’s a separate list of amps and cabs somewhere (hopefully user IR slots too 🤞). I do think with the originals the 70 is the way to go, since you can reflash the firmware to add amps and cabs pretty easily

@@KaiDown i hope it includes amp and cabs but when you look at all the marketing a material and specs it makes no mention of them. whereas you look at marketing for ms 50 g original one the lists always say amp and cabs. the plus has pre amps and 'multi layer' IRs so maybe thats what they have instead. if they arent in launch surely they can be cracked in just like the other ms stomp boxes.

That's a pretty good observation, they did a lot of demos of the preamp sections on the launch site but it does seem like they're focused on them as drive pedals moreso than full-fledged amp and cabinet simulators. Given that they've confirmed you can add/delete models from the app, I'm assuming this would include effects from their other full modellers. So perhaps the model list is just the ones new to the unit, and you can load a bunch of other things from the G6

No. I depend on My IPhone and IPad. I don’t have a PC rn, and get along much better with a DAC DONGLE OTG! Not everyone has a computer.

Have you tested the ms50g+ yet? I’m debating whether to buy that or the older model ms50g. Also do you know if you can load some of the effects from the ms50g into the ms50g+(that the ms50g+ doesn’t have)?

I personally didn't like them, but to each their own - if you like them, that's totally cool too. Lots of people love them, and I'm not going to argue with that! Definitely seems like everything is re-done for the MS-50G+ though. For the people that want the original models, the original MS-50G will be cheaper than ever once this drops.

The connection kit is Apple's problem, but the fact that the mobile editor isn't controlled via Bluetooth is a strange decision. I can't see myself getting a tonne of mileage out of a wired mobile editor

Funny how you have JUST done a review on that MS50! I think you knew something 🤔... lol The original zoom had those dumb buttons cause it was taking over the iPod clickwheel fad and it just felt and looked much more familiar then. It certainly hasn't aged well. I particularly dislike the colors and screen resolution.. hated it then, hate it even more now.. it feels retro but not in a good way.... The wired mobile connectivity is just atrocious! I assume they updated all the sounds... I mean, it's ONLY been 10 years! lol. If they think the convenience of having multiple fx on a single stompbox is enough for it to sell many of these, on a time where I can have all my ML Sound Lab plugins + pedals and the ability to record on the fly; on a single folder and have it sound GREAT, they have another thing coming.... I'll keep my eyes peeled for that review once it's out! Great job Kai!
