If i download the firmware for my R16 will it work? Says its for R24 there is an R16 firmware elsewhere but it seems older
@tierankarb6 ай бұрын
as long as you download this firmware and install it onto your R16, the audio drivers should still allow you to use your R16 as a control surface, as its the same driver for both devices. I provided the link to the R16 support page which has the latest firmware and driver downloads zoomcorp.com/en/ca/digital-mixer-multi-track-recorders/multi-track-recorders/r16/r16-support/

Fantastic. Works like a charm. My Zoom is almost 10 years old, and i run MacMini with Sequoia 15.1.1 (24B91) Firmware is R16 is 1.23 and Mac driver is 1.7.0

I thought my R16 wasn't working, but I didn't realize you have to hit "enter" when it starts up to put it into Audio Interface mode. Make sure it shows up as "active" in Audio MIDI setup. Thanks for a great video!

Great video. I bought an R24 secondhand today for a good price …(collecting it in the next couple of days) … and I was wondering about it as a Logic Pro surface controller. I will follow these steps when I have it. Thanks

Thank you so much for this video. When it comes to music tech I’ve always been trial and error. I’ve got a zoom r8 and I can’t remember how many times I’ve tried to use it as a control surface and failed. Thankfully I can now use it , as your video is idiot proof 😀success 👍

Cheers dude, I just ordered an R24 as I’ve owned the R8 and was impressed with the rock solid functionality of the design - new touch screen models are a surprising disappointment, and this is making the ebay prices for the R16/24 go up… …a lot of interest still remains, and the integration with DAWs via the Mackie driver makes these standalone interfaces one of the few options for those of us who want that flexibility. Their mobile form factors also set them apart from other ‘home’ studio multitracks… …and drum sequencers/loopers Not much else out there to compare them to!

I bought mine second hand 5 years ago, and it still functions like it's brand new. I've used it standalone and edited and mixed in the Zoom. I've linked multiple up together and recorded a full band setup, both in Logic and standalone. The A/D converter's are still great, and the MIDI control response is great for performance. All-in-all a great piece of gear that is highly underrated
@BeardLAD Жыл бұрын
I just lost my reply as the battery is not the healthiest. Summary: you should consider further videos, as IMO these Zoom recorders are going to have diehard users moving forward, and many units sold. And maybe Zoom will regain form & produce better, comparable gear moving forwards. With that in mind, you mentioned live performance as well as studio production using your unit - my current creative aim involves a single ‘One&Done’ studio-produced album summertime next year… …whilst documenting my doing so in real time from my recently DIY built studio. I’m starting that demonstration with a Novation Bass Station (rack mount). I’ll explain clearly what confuses me, as well as my moments of clarity - for me this involves writing on paper in green ink - thus demonstrating how art is a convoluted but ultimately creative process, that is discouraging by nature… …the secret sauce of all stories: conflict + resolution = evolution. The character changes & improves. The reality of our untold BTS stories, is not ‘neat & tidy’ - artistic intelligence helps here - and I aim to document this & demystify the otherwise discouraging learning/creative process, specifically: I am musically illiterate (playing & production), but I understand art in a seemingly circular artistic manner (eg heuristically acquired understandings of art through an ‘unknown’ nascent artistic intelligence), which incorporates certain tautological elements that correlate strongly with scientific understanding, too… …ie I see where art, science & human intelligence meet, and to what end: flourishing through literal harmony. Kurt Vonnegut provides an excellent example. The responsibility here, is how best to ‘demonstrate’ the power of art to enable an individual to go from ‘zero’ literacy to a heuristically produced studio album and… …the ability to perform live. Far too many people believe that art is for artists, and not everyone can be an artist. Art isn’t as mysterious as some have advertised it, indeed, art is the means by which any one of us - and so all - perform a task with individual excellence… …as one, for the benefit of all. Live performance - be that musical or being oneself - is an aspect of artistic intelligence & power a person needs to achieve on their own… …with encouragement & help. Starting from scratch - zero - I feel I can encourage others to be themselves by heuristically learning how to ‘do’ & so ‘be’ anything they need to be, to be feel & know themselves. The problem-solving process needs demystified, and a realistic record - expectations about acquiring technique - needs to be demonstrably made available. Nothing more discouraging than not knowing what to expect, and having reality hit hard… …having an illiterate (musician) demonstrate the power of art in a ‘semi-autodidactic’ manner, and to have that reasonably successful demonstration documented & made permanently available as an accessible resource? The only way every step - the forward strides & the backward stumbles - can be made accessible: is via a service like YT… …with chapter markers to save people’s time. I would love to perform live, and because I’m uneducated… …I’m a liberated explorer, off road without a map: just these twin peaks of studio album, and live performances on the horizon. The mountain range of human accomplishment is vast, the views countless, but the art of exploration sans paved roads… …is paramount. Thanks for your help 👍

Hi, This is a wonderful tutorial. I have a question why do you assigned the R24 as an input but also as and output ?
@tierankarb Жыл бұрын
Input allows me to use the R24 (or any desired hardware/software) to record audio into Logic. Output is sending the Master Output signal of Logic to the assigned location. (Speakers, headphones, software).

can you record through the R24 while being used as a control surface?
@tierankarb Жыл бұрын
Yes, this entire video I was recording my voice while demonstrating very little about the control surface capabilities.

What is the difference between recording a track on the r24 using this set up, that means already connected to Logic Pro and recording a track on the r24 to later transfer this file to the computer, that means recording without being connected to logic. Does that change the quality?
@tierankarb Жыл бұрын
In this video i'm using my R24 as an Audio Interface and a DAW Control Surface for Logic. What you are describing is using the R24 as a StandAlone instance. The quality of the audio being recorded is the exact same, the only difference is that i'm using Logic as my DAW, instead of the R24, as well as all my projects can easily be saved and shared onto multiple hard drives.

I am going to dump this crappy object. Nothing on hot is easy, everything is an absolute pain in the A. every time it opens everything has to be reset. every step is indirect and could be done better . Simply, unless you love spending time fighting incredible badly designed systems, DONT BOTHER WITH THIS PRODUCT.
