Using this feature all the time. It is essential for my work, where I share my screen and shows my customers a drawing of their new garden (I am a landscape architect) and they can easily take over the screen and point out something for me. Then I take over again and draw some more on the screen. Can't run my business without it... And the feature where you only share a portion of the screen. I think that Zoom maybe took the name from that feature... Keep up the good stuff. Always watch your videos.

This was great Steve! Of course your content is great, but I could find tons of videos with similar content. Why I love YOUR videos is the way you explain details, you answer probable questions that could come up, your pace (many other videos are much too fast for me), and with this one in particular, how you showed BOTH SIDES of what to expect and where to go on your screen. Finally, your concluding point about the settings was key! I watched another video where you showed polls and I can't find how to poll. But maybe it's in my settings. Thank you!

I'd love to hear how you use this Heidi. It would be great to hear how it's working out in a group setting. Can multiple users control the screen at once? Or do they interact one at a time? I'm wondering how child-friendly it is. I'm an English teacher so I'll be working with foreign students. It could offer them the ability to play PowerPoint games (matching, ESL board games, etc.). I need to know... 1. Is it strictly one person at a time? 2. Is it easy to wrestle back control of your laptop with one-click? (when I tested it with my girlfriend, it was actually quite difficult to regain control of my computer. I can imagine this would be chaos when teaching children!). 😂

THANK YOU, Steve. I am the tech support for my family and friends and have been using Teamviewer. The problem I have with it is they update it so frequently whoever I am helping has to constantly update their install before we can connect. It is so frustrating for those who I am helping. Love this! :) I just wish there was a way to remote control someone's ipad. Unfortunately, Apple won't allow it for consumers. I even emailed Tim Cook for special temporary permission to try to help my sister who was at home in hospice and struggling with ipad issues. I never heard from him. :(

This is a great feature that I had forgotten about. Thanks for the demo. Many times, the people having problems on a Zoom call are connected using an iPad or iPhone and the suggestions that people make don't apply. DO you know if the remote control works with those devices?

Peter Hawke I was interested in this as well. My sister uses only an iPad or iPhone & sometimes it would be easier to show her the how to’s. Right now I do a screen recording with the microphone turned on (important) then if it’s a short enough video, I can send in a text. Otherwise, I end up with a dropbox link which can sometimes be tricky. Thanks for the great videos, really enjoying them.

Steve in settings - There are two "remote" options - one under in meeting (basic) says remote control and one in meeting (advanced) says remote support - What would be the difference? please see Q from Eoghan too. Thanks April!
@adrianmaths.professor69584 жыл бұрын
Hi, I found the same. It looks like, the (basic) option works when one user is sharing the screen, and you can have this activated even with Break Out rooms, because it works if/when the user shares screen, and the new controller should be able to control ONLY what is being shared. The (advanced) option is a different animal, but only works 1 on 1, and you have full control of the shared computer, regardless of what may be sharing. (comment: you cannot have the Break out rooms active if you want to use this -advanced- feature).
@tonibuzzard93124 жыл бұрын

Hi Steve, @dottotech i have a question about the remote control accessability, once you have given remote control to another user, is there a way such as a keyboard shortcut, to stop a users remote controlled access without stopping screen sharing ?? reason i ask this is, what happens if you get somebody messing about who does not want to allow the host to regain control of the mouse and keyboard, again this is where i believe a keyboard shortcut without confirmation would be handy. i'd just feel more secure about having that option instead of fighting against someone who wants to go nosing around my computer. thanks !

Great video, Steve. It's one of the most commonly used tools for not just technical support, but also sharing the same presentation. If host wants to load their presentation, but they don't want to be the "next slide", they can have a participant/co-host do that for them by controlling their mouse/keyboard. Would love your thoughts on the Remote Support feature that involves actually controlling the system (UAC, windows restarts, installing programs, etc) that some technical support depts would use.

Oh Matt, I love that idea I hadn’t thought of it, thanks for sharing. Thanks much, Steve! Great tutorial. Asking a weird and yet sorta IT admin question. How to debug user's Zoom issue while you/host in remote control? Say Sam/user has set up or even adv features, eg version, breakout room or passwd control issue. You and him are already in Zoom. You can't just do whatever you need to do (as IT admin) then upgrade the same time, can you? Well you can exit Zoom and ask Sam to upgrade and so on. Restart another session and see. Other instance is that what if in a corporate, Sam just a user (no admin priv.) when using remote control and some app requires Admin pass and that Windows UAC is just a nasty bottleneck. A pop up (UAC) window on Sam's you can't even see! Can't just ask Sam to type up Admin Pass, can you? I know there's a tool "RunAs...", but it's very cumbersome to run, let alone you are in Zoom (remote control). Thanks for all. -Billy

I'm teaching remotely this year, and I'd like to use this feature with my 2nd graders. What I want to do is give them control of my screen when we're all viewing an interactive screen so that they can type and move letters/numbers/images around. Make sense? The problem is that they are using iPads (required) and I am on a laptop. That means two things. First, when I give them remote control, what they experience is different from what I experience (no track pad, no keyboard, etc.) so it's very hard for me to walk them through what to do. Second, even when they do figure some things out, other things flop; so maybe they can select a letter but then they can't move it, or they can access the text box, but they can't get their keyboard to pop up. It's so annoying because I think this could be a really fun and powerful tool for them, but so far it's just an exercise in frustration for all of us. Any tips???

Can I give control to multiple students at once, so they can interact with the PowerPoint presentation? Or can you only give one student access at any given time? Thanks a lot! 😁
@scratchmasterp4 жыл бұрын
The reason I ask is because I will be teaching children English online. I need them to be able to interact with the PowerPoint (to play matching games, etc.). However, I don't want them to be able to wrestle full control over the laptop. I want it to be easy to cut access after they've completed the exercise, because I might be teaching 3 or 4 students at once. I need to be able to easily cut the control, or assign it to the next student. My girlfriend and I did a trial run. She was able to overrule my mouse pointer, and it was quite hard to wrestle back control over my laptop as she was also competing for control. This might be a problem with 10-year olds 😂 Is there a keyboard shortcut to "abort control"? This could help. If there was a shortcut, I would be able to instantly terminate control over my computer. Also, as I said before, is it possible to have multiple people controlling the screen at once? Or just one at a time? Thanks so much for your help!
