Zoom vs Prime Lenses for Video | Can you really tell a difference?

Which one do you prefer? Zoom or prime?

First bokeh, then vignette, then sharpness. The colors on the prime are a bit better too. Those are all somewhat superficial though, since it really depends on which two lenses exactly you are comparing at what specific aperture.

I got the comparison right. Good guess, I guess. I chose the prime to be on the left because of the lighting on the face. I noticed it was a little bit brighter on the face in the side by side view. I assumed it would be the prime since it is truly an f1.8 even though it was shot at 2.8 to match the zoom. (Edit) After reading the comments, I totally missed the vignetting, sharpness, and distortion others mentioned.

thanks for the video! it's a shame nikon film slr cameras do not support the latest zooms (like this sigma and the similar nikkor f/2.8E) due to them having electronic aperture. had to go with the not-so-interesting nikkor 24-120 f/4G as my first lens for my new nikon f100. sigma and tamron 35mm primes are supposed to work fist fine with this body though

Could instantly tell based on the vignetting. Basically any zoom wide open is going to have significantly more vignetting than a prime that's closed down a couple stops. The text in the background also looked the slightest bit less smooth on the zoom. Also, you labeled the prime wrong at the beginning. It's an f/1.4 lens, not f/1.8.
