I'm from the 757 and I live here currently and I can confirm that they would take us to plantations, to churn butter and pick cotton. At the end of the trip we got to keep a piece of the cotton we picked. It wasn't until recently that I realized how messed up that was. 😂😂😂

@@reginamitchell7728 I've taken that field trip twice and each time every single kid in my class was on that trip. We also had a few parents as chaperones. I think it was just accepted. It is a huge part of our history here in VA but I don't think people took into account that having little black kids pick cotton on a field trip wasn't a great idea.

I kept thinking that the whole odd tourist aspect of it was throwing me off. The lady giving the tour was like just way too excited about the stuff she was saying regarding "slaves". It wasn't until I was older that I realized I didn't really learn anything on that trip other than the clean version of slaves living habits on plantations.
