Mr. Hane, I'm very new to lawn care and just starting my lawn care journey (approx 1 month now), so please excuse me for my ignorance and long winded but I hope not to stupid of a question. In the last week I've watch probably 10 - 15 videos on lawn striping, and DIY lawn striping kits and to be honest I love how those stripes look on the lawn. I also watch one of you videos, I cant remember which since I've watched quite a few over this last month, but I distinctly remember you saying that mowing is crucial to a healthy lawn and not to always mow in the same direction because you train you lawn to lay down a certain way, and then you gave the example of you taking off you hat and showing how your hair lays a certain way because it's being trained to lay that way due to your hat. So...here's where my inexperience shows --- If lawn striping is about pushing down or bending the grass blade down by a weighted roller to get the nice stripe, and the more you do it the better and sharper the stripe, aren't we doing exactly what you told us not to do in your other video? Did I miss something from another video not yet watched? Can you please clarify this for me? By the way I just watch the video where you, Ryan and Conor came to Utah and visited Snowbird. I hope you enjoyed our beautiful state. You should come visit again in the dead of winter and see the contrast of our beautiful Wasatch mountains with and without snow.

9:35 in is a good picture of your stripe kit installed. I believe the kit is to far away from the back tires and the angle of the kit has most of the weight forward of the kit rather than down on the kit. I believe the speed you are going at combined with the angle of the kit is the reason why the results are not as vivid. See My video Illusion of lawn striped @ to see the angle 6:15 and distance between the rear tires. You are right the more times you mow the more it will get "burned in".
Hi. I was wondering if I need to kill existing weeds before planting new sod? I am taking out the old lawn completely.

Too bad you didn't get that done a week ago, that 3" of all day everyday would certainly have been a tremendous help in keeping everything wet! It's funny, here in northern Crook County, my Depot has reduced their orders for Milorganite, and started carrying a reduced formula (4-2-0), more expensive bag........? Ecoscraps slow release fertilizer. 45 lb bag, does 2,500 sqft. Seeing the forecast, I didn't have much of an option but to accept it, but man am I still salty, obviously. I mean, there's only about 8 stores between me and the source. And ya, at $350+, I'd say some Unistrut and a few HF rollers would make a fine equivalent for a DIY version. But, when it's for the church. Stay well my friends. I'm curious to hear if this has become a common replacement? This Ecoscraps is from Terrace Brands, out of Vegas. That's probably got too much alcohol to be good for the lawn haha Ecoscraps (dot) com

So much fun and immediate results. How long does it usually take to see results with liquids like these? Hey LCN. Maybe it was just me. But the context I got on the video at the end when you displayed the pricing for the Striping kit. You showed it to be 350+. While it may have been the price for that particular unit. Not all of them are that high. Mine was about 100 bucks for the 21 inch checkmate for the Honda Mower. Maybe a slight adjustment for that if you deem it nesseccary. Again maybe its just how I observed the video. Just didn't want that to potentially deter anyone from looking at purchasing one because they are a fantastic unit.

I'm a big fan of your channel and newsletters. I have learned a lot from watching you over the last three years, and have achieved decent results. However, I live in the city in San Francisco, and our local conditions are difficult and different from many areas, I suspect. My lawn is surrounded by tall buildings. As a result, I deal with pretty dense shade much of the year (which at least makes crabgrass pretty rare). At the same time, our soil temperature is pretty optimal for cool season turf type growth year round. It never really freezes and it never really gets hot enough in the summer for my grass to go dormant. I wonder if you'd be able to do a video at some point providing advice on this type of environment. I think it might be interesting. For instance, maybe I should routinely overseed in the spring or early summer and change up my pre-emergent schedule (the main weed for me is clover). Anyway, I would love to get your thoughts on these unusual situations.
@TheLawnCareNut4 жыл бұрын
that is very unique and challenging for sure! Buildings are the ultimate shade. I covered this in a podcast last year - not exactly your situation, but similar kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHiVdYepiJehjMU

@@TheLawnCareNut Thank you! This is very helpful. I think I watched this when it came out, and had it in my head to try something similar this year, but things got away from me. What I've noticed is that the clover takes over in the winter and I end up putting down new seed to fill in the resulting bare spots when soil temperatures permit germination in late March/early April. The lawn starts getting full sun for several hours per day in May, and it looks phenomenal in July-August. However, in the second week of September, it suddenly thins out, the clover comes in, I can't get new grass to grow, and the cycle repeats itself. I will try to experiment more with the seeding first strategy over the coming year!

@petergiambrone82324 жыл бұрын
When you strips a lawn with a tractor I find it easier to start in the center going out and cut more like a U so you only have to turn around every other pass. As you cut the U gets larger two of your turns are only 90 degrees instead of 180 which is not easy on a tractor. If you are able to start your U on a drive you can do your 180 turns without backing up.
