You are absolutely my inspiration for the right way to get Bermuda Lawn Perfection in TX. I ordered an Allett Stirling EGO battery Cylinder/Rotary Mower plus all the attachments and can’t wait to cultivate my yard. Plus just ordered some rotary scissors for our EGO Power Head. Next I’m going to order the application products you recommended. My son watches all your videos also and has added 10 customers in our neighborhood in Northlake Texas after being inspired that he can stand out with using your guidance on Bermuda Lawn Care and plans on switching from our EGO Rotary mower to the Allett as soon as it arrives. We know we need to level our yard. And in some areas it’s deep ruts so we are hesitant to do it in those areas because so much material is needed to level it. I’m guessing after we get our lawn as healthy and fast growing as possible then we will begin 4 week rotations of spot leveling in this deep rutted areas. Our lawn is sitting on top of literally 2 feet deep or more of pure clay. The house and lawn is new as of Oct 2020 and have only watered it, hand weeded it each week, and rotary mowed it 1-2 times a week depending on its growth at the lowest cut our mower can cut at. We did do one bag of Organic Fertilizer last season.

lawn looks awesome!! do we strip north / south or east / west??/
@LawnInsider2 жыл бұрын
I will stripe in 4 different directions that I cycle through each time I mow. Horizontal, Vertical, and diagonal each way. East/West will give you the purest stripes due to the sun rising and setting in those directions.

I got mine from a gentleman who was trying to maintain a golf green in his back yard but didn’t have the time to maintain it. Found the listing on Facebook Marketplace in 2018. Happy hunting! Something will pop up if you remain diligent!

Why don’t you use plant growth regulator if you can’t mow it as often as needed

I do use it, I just haven’t applied it yet. Probably looking at making my first app this weekend.

Great video. Have you used Golfco Competition Rollers or JRM products for your equipment? Been hearing a lot of great things about them.

I have not! I just use my reel mower. I’ve also seen some people lay some nice stripes with the Big League Lawn Striper.

is that the 8 blade or 11 blade GM1000? I looked back at your walk-through video of it and it looks like an 11 blade, just can't quite tell. Assuming it is an 11 blade, do you ever have any inconsistencies in cut, like random long blades of grass that didn't get cut? I'm looking at a GM1000 currently that's the 11 blade model, if I'm honest I would prefer a GM1600 8 blade model because my yard is fairly large, but those seem to be getting more and more rare and expensive.
@LawnInsider2 жыл бұрын
It’s an 11 blade. I don’t notice many stragglers at all, but I’m usually at least double cutting. I’m sure the 8 blade would be better for the shorter HOC, but like you mentioned they’re few and far between.

Any advice on overseeding Bermuda seed in Phoenix? My Bermuda is thin and a bit patchy and I am looking to overseed Bermuda in the next couple of weeks. Interested in timing, seed brand, top dressing (if needed), and whether to use shortcuts like EZ seed or similar. Great vids , thank you!
@LawnInsider2 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the comment! Do you know what type of bermuda you have? As a rule of thumb you don’t want to overseed bermuda sod because you won’t be able to match it with seed and you’ll end up with a splotchy lawn.
@martinondrums2 жыл бұрын
@@LawnInsider Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately I don’t know the type of Bermuda but most of it is like yours, and then there are already some random alternate grasses mixed in, probably from prior overseed attempts by the former owner. I can live with the “bermuda mix” as long as I can get it all growing nice and thick and mow it down. Just not sure about the overseed processes as mentioned in my original comment. Thanks, love your channel!
@LawnInsider2 жыл бұрын
@@martinondrums make sure there aren’t other factors that might be responsible for the grass struggling in those few spots (shade, lack of water, construction debris in the soil, etc). If you still decide you want to seed I would suggest dethatching, then seeding with a drop spreader if you have one available, then lightly top dressing with a compost/sand mixture. After that it’s just a matter of keeping it watered well. But again, I think not overseeding and allowing your existing Bermuda to spread into those weak spots is still your better option. Overseeding is usually reserved for lawns that are too far gone to recover.
@martinondrums2 жыл бұрын
@@LawnInsider Thank you, agree with all , thinking I’ll dethatch and seed and hope to help things grow up and worst case scenario it can still fill in on its own anyway if the seed fails. In other words, not sure what the harm in trying is? I think there are a lot like me here in PHX so maybe a video detailing seeding Bermuda might be helpful to many. Thanks again.

How heavy should my mower be in order to get the grass to lay down? Is there a rule of thumb? I’m over here in Georgia with a Bermuda lawn as well, and I know it doesn’t stripe as well as cool season grasses. But I want to give it a shot
@LawnInsider2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think there’s a rule of thumb, but reel mowers with rollers as opposed to wheels will stripe better. If you have a rotary mower you’ll need some sort of heavy roller attached to the back of the mower.

I would like to see the grass growing in well before leveling, but you can definitely do a light top dress without any issues. Just wouldn’t lay it on too heavy.

Your lawn looks great! I know bermuda hates shade, so how do you get to grow it so well next to your fence?

I don’t do anything special in those areas. I think the way my yard is laid out, it just happens to get enough sun.

Thanks for doing this video! I aspire my lawn to be like yours up here in Austin, TX! Are you concerned with the two trees you have with shade cover in the future since bermuda loves the sun. Thanks!
@LawnInsider2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Frank! I’m very concerned lol our HOA requires every house to have two trees like that… which is a really dumb rule and just leads to entire neighborhoods of bare dirt/weedy lawns. I’m just going to keep them trimmed the best I can and hope that they take a long long time to get big 😂
@frank360d2 жыл бұрын
@@LawnInsider lol, I hear you! we have a oak tree about 5 years old in our front yard. it's growing really well but needs to be trimmed for maximum sun on the lawn. the amount of leaves and acorns this tree drops on the yard is a pain! keep up the great work and videos!
