As a crewchief working on F-15's in the USAF in the 80's, I had the extremely fortunate opportunity to go back seat during mock combat in an Eglin AFB 33rd TFW 59th AMU F-15B over Germany while on TDY. We pulled 8.1 gs during a dogfight against an F-16. It was freaking incredible. I also had a 900 Ninja I used to ride around the base perimeter road. I would drag against the Eagles and loose regularly.

My dad (USAF Col. Ret) was a test pilot for years at Edwards AFB, where the sonic booms rang out loud and proud all day long.. I never heard mention of the Hicks maneuver that they use to keep from passing out. I'll have to ask him more about that and other flying-related material during our next time! Pretty scary stuff. Some of the training that all fighter pilots (actually, all military pilots) go through is what's called High Altitude Training, or Physiological Training. I did mine 20 years ago at Tyndall AFB, Florida. One of the parts of the training while sitting in the "tub" or Chamber, is to have the oxygen on 100% Emergency. The air is literally forced into your lungs. This is necessary as in high G, you would not be able to pull enough air in. I can tell you from the training, just sitting there with the air forced in, and trying to state my name, birthday, hometown... I got barely the first letter out of my first name. I have been up to 7Gs in the backseat, but hearing the guys in the front just chill while up to 8 or 9 Gs is always funny to hear.... Just another day in the office for them.

I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to drive a ZR1, and it was nothing short of incredible. The thrust that the LS9 makes literally causes the muscles on face to strain, and makes your vision fixed. But whats maybe even more impressive, is how unbelievably easy it is to drive. Im not a novice at manual transmissions, but at the same time i'm not a seasoned pro. I never stalled the car once, in the three of four times that i drove it. Its very easy to shift, the clutch is pretty light. Its not scary at all during "normal driving" but just feels like its waiting for you to stab the gas so it can pounce. The feeling of torque is always there. Really amazing sounding when you put your foot down and the valves open up too. The new C7's are cool, but i prefer the styling on this C6 ZR1 over that. If you ever have the CHANCE to drive a C6 ZR1.... DO IT! One of the best cars i've ever driven. Saying that, Ive driven a Mclaren 650S, Mclaren MP4-12C, Every Aston Martin except the One-77,Lamborghini Murcielago, Ferrari F430,Porsche 911 Turbo S, Porsche Carrera 4S, Lamborghini Gallardo, Mclaren P1 (VERY VERY BRIEFLY AT LOW SPEED),Audi R8 V10. The ZR1 may be cheaper then alot of the higher end cars i've been lucky enough to drive, but the performance of the ZR1 is mind blowing, and I LOVE the feel the car has. I feel like they will definitely go up in value in the future.

In my job I have been fortunate to meet many F-18 pilots. 3 of the pilots I've met are or have been "Blue Angels" including 2 lead pilots. Even though they belong to the most elite of the elite in our armed forces, they downplayed their importance and skill. I may have only been a contractor doing my job to them but I was honored to meet them.

What's funny is he didn't even go full power on the jet. He went to minimum afterburner. If he was at full power, you would see blue flames extending about 10-15 feet out the back of the plane and honestly, if he had done that, I doubt the ZR1 could have even passed it. Anyone ever set up next to an airport runway, even with a commercial jet, presumably loaded, and thought it might be a race? I did once, when I was young and dumb. OKC, around 1989. B737 versus Ford Bronco 2. When the football was cleared for T/O, I gassed my ford all the way and within a few seconds I had my ass promptly handed to me by the Boeing. By the time I reached 60 the lumbering passenger jet had more than twice the forward progress I had. It wouldn't have mattered what I was driving. That moment taught me that these are different creatures. Any comparisons were just for fun. So I knew before watching this video who won. Just watched it anyway for the entertainment. Now I drive 105,500 pound trucks and am one of your local truckers who mash 5 or 6 gears before I even get through an intersection from a standing start. Always wanted to be a pilot. My dad sat me in a T38 when I was younger than 5. Always had the bug, but life doesn't always give you what you want. And by the way, if you think this F/A 18 accelerates fast off an airport runway, you might want to see it launch off a carrier. 0-140 in 2.5 seconds. Munch on that.

I love the Vette, had one, but it couldn't have been much of a race against a F/A-18 fighter jet, at least not for very long! A fighter can't slow down too much or it will lose its lift! I watched the Blue Angels during Fleet Week in San Francisco and was always awed by their precision flying! Remarkable!

Ok. Don't listen to the kids below. Fucking stupid. The latest C7 Corvette Z06 with the Z07 Performance package can beat every single car you mentioned and the C6 ZR1 which you refer to. HOWEVER, the person who replied it can beat a Mclaren P1 on track is HORRIBLY wrong. Neither the C7 Z06 Z07 or the C6 ZR1 could beat it. However the C7 could come close to it. Go check it out. Pretty amazing car consider the corvette Z06 only cost $79,000 plus about $9,000 for the Z07 package. Pretty cool that a little cheap American car could decimate much more expensive cars like the aventador.

I think you're high. You have no idea how physics work. "only one second" you say? 3.3 seconds... versus ALMOST FIVE. That's almost TWO seconds, just to sixty. That little mercedes won't hit anywhere near 200 mph. The corvette will without even trying. That little mercedes won't even pull a sub 1:40 around Laguna Seca. A corvette nails it in under 1:34. And the NEW vette will be even quicker. Secondly it's not faster than a Camaro around a track. Also turbo fours are not all that fuel efficient. Come back when that little four banger mecedes out performs a TEN year old Corvette ZO6. By the way if that 4 banger mercedes is so amazing...why is it not even the quickest thing mercedes makes? Why is it Mercedes uses large displacement V12s then if that turbo four is so awesome? Why is it even when they break out the big V12...it's no where in the same ballpark around ANY road course as a Corvette? Because they Suck, worse than the Italians even. Oh right.... because when it comes to real high performance turbo 4s aren't it on anything larger than a motorcycle, or Atom. Keeps up with the best america makes. Yeah right. Leave it to Ze Germans, to struggle to make a car that still can't beat a car that was put into the wild in 2009. Or for that matter...still not beating a car that was put into production in 2004. (the 2004 not 2014, not 2013 004!, hits sixty in 4.2 seconds. that's right, on 2004 tires, the C5 ZO6 is STILL faster, than your 'great mercedes' by half a second to sixty. To say nothing of the flogging it'll get when things go curvy) By the way 4.7 and 3.3 isn't even in the same zipcode...and the 2014 ZO6? 2.95 seconds to 60. If you think that mercedes is anywhere close, because "it's only 2.2 seconds!"... I have swampland to sell you. I'll put it to you this way so you can understand. A 1989 Corvette, Base Car with a mere 245 horses thundering under the hood, is closer to your mercedes to 60 mph...on it's Original Tires, on modern rubber, it's even closer (5.1 seconds to 60...without foot braking 4.9 with footbraking) than your mercedes is to even a 2014 Stingray. To say nothing of a 2013 ZR1, or 2014 ZO6. Congratulations, for backing a car, that can barely beat out a car that was built in 1989, and thinking it has a prayer in beating anything even made from 2004..let alone 2014.

Abubaker Alzuaree That F/A-18 in a one mile drag race will knock off any of those cars, because if you didn't notice, at the one mile mark, the Hornet was going almost 100 MPH faster than the top speeds of any of those cars, and it was just getting into the heart of its flight envelope. Most super cars' acceleration curves flatten out above 150 mph, because of the decreasing gear ratios in the transmission as the car shifts up through its gears, whereas the Hornet is just getting going once it hits 150 mph, especially once it lifts off and cleans up its gear and flaps. It might've taken 20-25 seconds for the Hornet to get up to 345 mph, but the first 150 mph takes almost half that time. Once it gets off the ground and cleaned up, it picks up the remaining 200 mph in the same amount of time. The Hennessy Venom might well be able to outpace the Hornet up to 200 mph, but the Hornet will get up to 275 before the Venom does, because the Venom's acceleration WILL slow down once it gets into it's highest gears. The Hornet's doesn't start slowing down until it hits around 650 mph. And the Bugatti Veyron will need almost a full minute to hit its top speed. The Hornet...does not. Look what happened when Top Gear's Richard Hammond raced a Veyron against a Typhoon. The Typhoon blew right past the car after taking off.
