@@1stCallipostleThat's when you watch Scott's Thoughts. In his solo runs he sets his pokemon's DVs or IVs to max or max minus whatever he needs for a good coverage Hidden Power type. Plus he does multiple runs to optimize the results as much as possible.

RBY/GSC Challenges does the opposite. He sets ivs/dvs to zero in all runs. His challenges are to prove any version of the pokemon is feasible. Hidden Power can be a lifesaver in solo runs depending on the Pokémon and the type, but pretty much only in cases of awful matchups in specific battles. When I was putting together my personal project of solo runs in Platinum, I put Hidden Power in the category of "crutch" -- moves or items that tend to help weaker runs more than stronger runs -- which led me to avoid using it when possible and adjust the run's ranking downward if I couldn't get past certain battles at a reasonable level without it.
@milohdd Жыл бұрын
Yeah I think Jrose should honestly use that system too, having it be disfavoured but not banned means that pokemon who need it to get past their weaknesses still get to use it, but not without consequences

So the odds of Nosepass either getting flinched or missing rock tomb is 38.75% on a single turn. For that to happen for 6 turns in a row (7, but we're not counting the potion) would be a 0.34% chance. Its not really important to find the odds of exactly miss-miss-flinch-miss-miss-flinch or w/e because we don't really care about any specific order, just that Nosepass was unable to move for 6 turns.

Explanation of what happened on Wattson: Gen 3 has some weird quirks about its AI, like all the gens. -Since shockwave can paralyze, the AI considers it a "status effect move" and because you were already paralyzed, it will only go for shockwave if it sees a KO on its damage roll. The damage roll is like any normal damage roll, it rolls for crit and everything normally, and it appears that it saw a kill with shockwave because its simulated damage roll was a crit. But it didn't get a crit on the actual damage roll.- Edit: It can't be this explanation because Shockwave can't para. My only possible explanation is it saw "hits self in confusion" with Shockwave on that roll, that's the only *possible* explanation I can think of. Now that may lead to some of you wondering "But what about Norman and Slaking randomly going for Yawn?" And yeah...yeah, that's a thing. But you see, sleep is a bit different from Paralyze, Poison, and Burn, it can end on any given turn, so it's treated slightly differently. It is thrown into the rotation of possible moves. Especially if it's acting second in a speed match up.
@TC-pp7hx Жыл бұрын
Shock wave can't paralyze. It has no additional effect other than that it can't miss
@ZerglingOne1 Жыл бұрын
@@TC-pp7hx You are 100% correct. Then the only thing I can think of is it saw "hits self in confusion" on the roll and thus 0 damage. That gives confusion significantly more consistency as an ability as it's essentially functioning as gen 1 disable in a way.

16:27 As a Slaking fan, I feel the necessity to say that it does not have some of the best stats for a non-legendary Pokémon, it has THE best stats of any non-legendary Pokémon, not only in Gen 3, but still in Gen 9. A Base Stat Total of 670, exactly the same as Legendary Pokémon like Groudon, Kyogre, Lugia, Ho-Oh... It has a base Attack of 160, 10 points more than Groudon, an HP of 150, 100 Defense and Speed, and 95 points in Special Attack, which is still good for coverage. Its only weakness is its 65 Sp.Def, but not even that matters that much as its inmense HP makes it so one shotting it from the special side is almost impossible too... I hope we get a Slaking run in Gen 3 one day, even with its ability, I feel it's going to be a very fun run
@mauser5680 Жыл бұрын
25:12 Personally, I don't mind the usage of Hidden Power. On one hand, it can definitely help Pokemon that struggle with coverage or against certain match-ups, but on the other, it's still a part of the arsenal that can be considered. Truth be told, I had actually thought it was Dragon before you mentioned it was Ice, as I thought that Steel didn't resist Dragon-type moves in Gen 3. Whatever the case, I think it's hardly comparable to Evasion moves and even at its worst, it could be mildly useful in certain battles. Besides, part of the fun is finding out what the typing of your Hidden Power even is, assuming you don't set it ahead of time in PKHex or something prior to a run.

I absolutely love your videos. Wish I could like them all multiple times over. Keep up the good work, I always look forward to your uploads. That being said, I feel so lucky with the frequent uploads prior to the month of JRose! 😅❤

I really appreciate you listening to the viewers and correcting your pronunciation. It always drove me insane when people pronounce Phoebe as Phoebe.

Every time Jrose starts a video with a Count impression I'm both scared and hoping he's doing it for the whole thing

It's crazy how to this day the Zubat line has a unique typing. Poison/Flying is such an incredible defensive type combination when used as part of a team, but solo it definitely runs into types it can't handle that well pretty often. Zubat for sure gets some pretty good moves but not a lot of them. Giga Drain, for example, is a really good coverage move and it helps it serve a defensive purpose on a team, or last longer in solo runs. Honestly Zubat and Golbat's biggest issue is their stats, and the fact that they didn't get many good STAB moves until Gen 4. Crobat is genuinely *really* good in almost every game it's available.

Funny, I just got home and opened the KZbin app to see what I was gonna watch while eating dinner. Lo behold, this video was dropped 6 seconds ago.
