That was awesome!! The first person view on your winning sprint was great to watch. The voice commands were pretty cool too. Really great fight throughout and a well-deserved win. Congratulations, Steve!

Thanks, Jonathan. I saw some posts in the Pack Dynamics threads from Zwift suggesting that first person was better for positioning and staying in the draft. I have to agree I find it easier to get a feel for when I'm about to get dropped. I also like it for the sprint it feels more focussed.

Awesome stuff Steve, from struggling at the back to rolling over the top with the sprint. Nicely done Sir.

Thanks, RT. I'm not sure the video does justice of just how hard that was. That moment when you messaged the group, I felt exactly the same, I couldn't even talk or respond. I knew there were some downhill sections coming and I tried to catch my breath and recover on those.

Steve!!! I loved everything about that. Absolute quality. Even the bits about bikes and equipment! The recording is superb, commentary excellent, really great. I’d maybe just make your cam window a tad bigger, people love seeing the pain!
@stevej_on_a_mtb Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Rob. Oh, there was pain! I never really quite settled into my breathing from the start. I got round the leg fatigue by holding a higher cadence than usual thanks to the virtual shifting. I hadn't realised I was over 100rpm on that last climb. Get your trainer sorted so we can enjoy your live streams again 😄

Awesome racing Steve and congrats on the win. That was a great sprint considering how hard the rest of the race was. I love the voice activated PU and view changes, it didn't look like there was any lag either! 👊💪

That was fricking epic, Steve! That was a fast pace throughout, and you still had a brilliant punch on the climbs. And you couldn't time the sprint better. Amazing result, and well deserved! 💪

Cheers, Lee. I really didn't want to sprint at the end. I thought I had burnt the last match to stay with the group on that climb. I was desperately trying to recover but stay in the draft for that final 1.5km. That sigh with about 800m to go is me acknowledging that I've got no choice to commit since I've got the Aero. I was lucky we went within 300m as I wouldn't have been able to hold on to a long sprint. Being able to fire the Aero mid sprint was great too - It just times out through the banner.

@@stevej_on_a_mtb Yeah, could tell that had taken a lot out of you. That half the KoM is a killer. I did a three lap race on this before and found it really sapping. But you dug deep and found what was needed, which is respect-worthy! I think probably everyone there was feeling similarly, so you were no more in trouble than anyone else. You had more at the right moment than them on the day. 💪 Brilliant to watch, and well happy for you, mate.

Thabks for the vid, going to try using virtual shifting this winter and was curious if i could skip buying the cog. Looks like a regular casette works just fine!
@stevej_on_a_mtb2 ай бұрын
yep and you can choose your chain line. I'm still using a 9 speed cassette with virtual shifting. It means I can ride indieVelo too

Great video👍 After this race would you prefer the click with the cog installed or is the cassett okay? I get my click and my cog today and wonder which setup is better and easier to switch between outdoor and indoor.
@stevej_on_a_mtb Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Franz. I prefer it with the 9-speed because its quieter and allows me to run the large chainring with better chain-line. The reason I prefer the larger chainring is because I'm using a MTB and find the 44t smoother than the 32t with less drivetrain losses. So I've settled on 44t x 15t. Depending on your drivetrain, your setup may differ. In any case, its really easy to swap the Cog if you keep a 17mm spanner handy.

i ordered zwift play controller for virtual shifting in hope to get the nasty rumble & vibrations out of my setup. I cant ride like that not living in a house by myself. It is my last hope i literally tried everything else thinkable for months. I prey. the silent cogs are the small ring in front and big in the back so low gear. Will that effect my w/kg negatively?
@stevej_on_a_mtb17 күн бұрын
it shouldn't really have any impact on wkg. But it might feel different. Let's say you are cycling on a flat gradient at virtual gear 15 (ratio of 3.0) . With a low mechanical gear setup, say 36tx 36t you only have a gear ratio of 1 and the freehub/flywheel rpm is the same as your cadence. The trainer can't make the freehub spin any faster (it has no motor). So to create the feel of gear ratio of 3, the trainer has to compensate by increasing the electromagnetic pulsing, which resists your force and gives you something to push against. Some people describe this as pedalling through mud. Let's say you were in mechanical gear ratio of 50 x 17. You now have a ratio of 3, and the freehub is spinning at 3x cadence. This is what the virtual gear wants you to feel. Therefore the trainer does not need to provide extra magnetic resistance (other than the base level resistance for flat gradient) So it comes down to preference, do you prefer the feel of mechanical resistance or electromagnetic resistance. By the way, if you have vibrations in the larger chainring, you could try replacing it as it might be worn. I replaced mine on a previous bike and it made a big difference.

@@stevej_on_a_mtb wow thanks for the great explanation ive been searching the web for hours now and couldnt even get close to this precise information. I'll take all that into consideration and try it out myself. Very much appreciated!

@@stevej_on_a_mtb god damn ive been searching the web, forums, talking to peeps for hours and couldnt even get close to that precise information that you provided here. Thank you a lot! I will take that into consideration when testing the zwift play the next days. But i got a slight gutfeeling i'll prefer the mechanical-bigger (Louder :( ) option more.

What turbo did you use , how did you connect the click
@stevej_on_a_mtb7 ай бұрын
I was using a Zwift Hub and Click connected via Bluetooth companion app. I now use a Wahoo KicKR and the Click for virtual shifting.

Does Zwift still auto calibrate gear ratios when using normal cassette?
@stevej_on_a_mtb Жыл бұрын
I think so. I've had a few issues with the auto calibration since I did a training session in ERG mode. I'm using 44t x 15t so in theory I'm only 1t away from the COG. I've noticed you have to keep a good cadence for around 30s for it to calibrate properly.
@stevej_on_a_mtb Жыл бұрын
I've also identified that it won't calibrate properly in the Pen as there is no in-game speed. Best to calibrate in free ride before jumping into any events.
