Just a tip from a guy that changes oil on his ZX6R every two weekends on track. To avoid leaking of oil from oil filter and that cardboard, just lean well the bike the other way for 30 second or more, or couple of times. Oil will go to engine, and not a single drop will get from oil filter when you unscrew it. I personally grab the handlebar, but you can lean it to your hip if afraid of dropping.

Changed mine twice...back to back to get all remaining break in oil residue and did notice metallic sparkles in direct sunlight of fine shavings at 575 miles with low rpm ranges observed. Mobil 1 and k&n filter...My krt is sooo awesome!

You reminded me to do the oil change yesterday at around 500 miles. I would have done the same around 150 miles if I saw this video. Thank you!

You’re good either way but yeah doesn’t hurt to do it early!

I do the same, pour a 1/2 quart with the plug still off, it will help remove the last bit of dirty oil. I have always done this, just makes sense

Don’t be ignorant. The newer models are the only ones that have the oil filter above the front sprocket. 99% of Kawasaki models have the drain bolt and filter at the bottom of the engine

@@Maree_Customsmy 2009 oil filter was right above the sprocket too... total pain in the ass

KAWASAKI spec is tighten oil filter to 17 N.m so if you use a torque wrench you will be alright I've been doing it that way on my KN303 Filters and never had the end cap blow off one

Good to know! I did tighten beyond hand tight. I found it interesting the hiflo filter included that direction in their instructions

If you ride hard then you must do more maintenance. Changing the oil more often is a must. 😅

10:14 I hand tightened as far as I could go and then gave the air filter a half turn with a wrench. It was completely tight, not torqued.

Looks very easy to do! I am for sure going to be buying that filter tool for my fiancee's zx6r that we are picking up this week. Looking at tutorials on what to do for the first service, and I am assuming you had to adjust your chain, and everything afterwards? I may ask my dealership for a first service sheet so it shows me what all they do so I can inspect it to the tee.

Yep there’s a few other items that dealers do at the break in service that are important! Tightening the chain is one of them!

It was brake in oil you should have ran closer to 600 miles it's in there for a reason

What’s the reason for doing the oil change so early on? No disrespect I’m just curious! I usually go by the manual, I know it states to wait till 600 miles for the first service, I did mine at 500. Cheers brother 🤙🏻

You’ll be 100% fine just following the manual! I chose to do this one early and then again at 600

Not only is that oil clean but you are draining oil that was designed differently than the oil you put back in it. Do not change your oil before the 500-600 mile mark as per the manual.

@zacharyhood5973

I don’t, from what Ive heard a hard break in usually is better for the bike instead of a soft break in. I usually run it 9k rpm or less
