From what I have researched, Zygos are not epiphytes so they grow in soil, airy soil. I would never plant them in clean bark! And they’re definitely not easier to grow then phalaenopsis, my experience. I think it’s quite tricky to bloom them in home environment if you don’t have some experience.

Hi Diana. Yes, you are so right. Mine didn't bloom for 3 years. I think they grow much faster though, but flowering is a problem

At least someone who is growing it in regular orchid media. How is she doing? I have mine in Seramis because that was the only thing I had att hand when I repotted it in the morning. Little afraid I am though that this particular media is not enough water retaining for it. I am thinking I might have a chance with it if I water it very often, like every third forthday. Or maybe a Sphagnum layer on top?

Hey Adina, it grows just perfectly in the regular orchid media. Actively grows leaves. :) As for watering, I would say pay attention to the condition of the media, instead of having a schedule, because the media can still be moist when you water every 3-4 days or it may get dry on the 2nd day already. Depends on your climate, growing conditions and the root system. How is the climate in your area? In any case a layer of Sphagnum will definitely help :)

Anna's Violets thank you so much, this is the most realistic thing I've ever heard about this particular beautiful plant. When I looked for it first time, it looked to me so complicated that I thought I won't manage it. But once I saw your video it gave me strength to get one for me because I love it. I'm leaving in Vienna and the autumn is approaching seriously. I'm groing mine in Seramis and as you logically suggested, I'm checking the media every now and then. I will definitely get her tomorrow some sphagnum Moss. I have a strong feeling that any regular orchid media will do, as long as one keeps the humidity and does not have to much warmth in the climate on a regular basis. Once again thank you so much

@@lotusflower4u Thank you so much for your nice words. I will definitely encourage you to grow this type of orchid. They are much easier than Phalaenopsis, seriously. :) I live in Germany, so I guess our climate is very similar, so there should not be any problem. Just choose a healthy plant and they will be fine. Also, when I buy new orchids and do not repot them immediately. i let them get adjusted to my environment, finish blooming, and then the next coming spring or summer I repot them in fresh media. Please let me know, when you buy one. I would love to know which variety it is. :)

Anna's Violets sure, I will let you know. I don't have to many, but I mostly go for very fragrant orchids and this one is a big winner. I checked the Zygopetalum in the morning, and I realized the roots are pretty dry in Seramis. So I changed my mind totally. I visited Obi today, and I decided forthe Compo orchids media I personally like a lot. Even that one I mixed with little sphagnum and now my orchid has no other choice but to be happy. 😉 I think I will keep the Seramis for Phalaenopsis only, even though I do not have too many of those, except for two Liodoros. ☺️ With re-potting, I actually do it when I buy them, because I'm very scared of the sponge inside, I mean the seeding one. I keep reading it can create a lot of issues. And, as you know, the more one read, the more confused one gets.🤭 So nice to know we are neighbors. 😊

@@lotusflower4u Yeah, I guess now your Zygo will be happier. As you said, it has no other choice :-D The sponge inside can definitely create some issues, like root rot. But again, you just need to be more careful with watering and everything shall be fine. Tomorrow I will post an update about two of orchids (third update already). It's kind of a test. I wanted to show that it's not a must to buy an orchid in full bloom and immediately repot it, as it is a lot of stress for the orchids - new environment (light, humidity, etc.), plus stress from repotting. The two in the video growing just perfectly for already 1.5 years and I haven't repotted them yet. I guess I will repot next spring. :) Let me know, if/when you come to Berlin. I would love to meet for a coffee and talk about our plants. I guess we have a lot to discuss 🌸 :)

Hi thanks so much for the video I love your orchids! What is the name of the Brassia orchid that you have in the background on the right (your left)?
@AnnasViolets4 жыл бұрын
It must be Miltassia (Bratonia) Shelob Tolkien. It didn't have a tag, but I tried to do my own research and find the right name. You can see more photos here, please let me know, if you think I am wrong :) facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1377245422446807&type=3
