DIY - Pencil Extender

I'm a professional illustrator and keep my hair buzzed short, so I never can wear flowers in my hair. I love morning glories and I always want to wear them, when my plants bloom. This afternoon, I tucked my pencil behind my ear, like I usually do, and it hit me! I'm going to make a few pencil lengtheners with a hole in the unused end that is small enough to grab the stem of a fake or real morning glory and just switch out the fake and real flowers for each season! Now I can wear my beautiful morning glories and keep my favorite pencils close at hand. Thank you for this lovely, versatile and inexpensive tutorial, it was exactly what I needed! 💮💜✏️

Btw if you don't have an extender and you need to sharpen a short pencil ( hand sharpener, not electric ) you can take the pencil and wrap the end of it with a rubber band. It makes it easier to sharpen it cuz after awhile your hands get wet and its hard to hold it when sharpening it.

I was working on a drafting project last night for college and the tip on my black Prismacolor kept breaking while sharpening and by the time I got it to a useable point, it was just a nub. This was a lifesaver as I was able to finish my project and get it turned in this morning. Thank you!

OK, that's really clever. I'd give it a coat of glue or maybe some sticky plastic, to stop it getting wet if your hands sweat or you get paint in it etc.

This is a really clever idea and very cheap way of making a pencil extender. However in the long run I think it's not really convenient (if you have to make a new one every time you pencil shortens or for every short pencil you have). Still for a emergency need (like it's Sunday you're working on this piece that requires this particular pencil which is too short... I would do this. Else I would just buy one (plus it saves rooms because you can have one extender for all your short pencils). I find it prettier and comfier (I prefer heavy pencils so only paper would be too light for me). Anyway this is just my personal opinion and it seems that it helped a lot of people ^^

Thanks :) and that's why I add glue to the surface of the hollow section so that it's nice and tight to accommodate for when the pencil becomes shorter and shorter over time.. I tested it before making this video so the DIY extender will have some longevity :)

I did use computer paper, so yes you can and I would advice it anyway since it's much easier to roll :)

I wanted to ask if you glue the hollow part of the extender doesn't that mea it can only be used for one pencil if you had another short pencil would you need to make another extender

I glue the hollow part so that I can still use it for a shorter pencil because it's nice and tight so the pencil won't slide when I use it. I tested it before making this video and it works for even shorter pencils (however it is a DIY so it will wear off over time) I hope that makes sense ^_^

To fix these issues, you can add extra paper in the whole so the pencil fits snuggly. Or add a layer of glue to so that there’s friction between the pencil and the paper, to prevent it from slipping out
