Just imagine.... this was the kind of music that was played all over the radio and TV back in the 80s. We had it so good when it came to music growing up in that decade.
@uoabigaillevey4 жыл бұрын
My sentiments exact. Back before instant internet fame for talentless musicians with autotune vocalists. To be on the radio you had to have survived long enough to have put in your dues and EARNED the right to be on the air. This meant a combination of talent, dedication, and a bit of luck. Now it is mainly just luck.. everything else is done via computer.

John Campbell oh ok 👌. I was thinking more along the lines of albums such as ZZ Top’s First Album ( title of album), Tres Hombres, Tejas, and Rio Grande Mud.
@johncampbell7564 жыл бұрын
@@GJRight That's why I phrased it that way and didn't say, "You're wrong." There was also a 3 year gap before Dequello. That's an easy one between the early and '80s sound, though that sound was recorded until Tejas.
@GJRight4 жыл бұрын
John Campbell Yes Sir! Most people today only know songs like “Cheap Sunglasses” and all the hits of the 80’s and beyond. I grew up with their beginning albums in the early 70’s and the rest of the decade. Again, most people only know them from Billy Gibbons and Dust Hill’s long beards and don’t know them when they were sporting cowboy hats and and Frank Beard had the long hair. Again, you’re correct with Deguello being released in ‘79, the point I was trying to make for Mr. Jamel was to explore music from their first album all the way up to Tejas. Good, good, old Texas Rock N Roll from that little old band from Texas!
@johncampbell7564 жыл бұрын
@@GJRight Pre-Eliminator, I only knew Tush, La Grange, Cheap Sunglasses and Thank You. It wasn't until "The ZZ Top 6 Pack" came out (which excluded Dequello) that I got to know the early stuff. Then I had to sell everything. But I got this little CD LP replicas set "The Complete Studio Albums 1970-1990" pretty cheap. I am happy again.

There's hardly a more iconic symbol of the early years of MTV than the ZZ Top Eliminator car. A fixture in several videos-including “Gimme All Your Lovin',” “Sharp Dressed Man,” and “Legs”-the fire-engine red 1933 Ford coupe was the culmination of guitarist Billy Gibbons' lifelong fascination with hot rods.

In a brilliant move, they left room for a sequel, as he sees the car driving off. The story picks up in the video for "Sharp Dressed Man," where the guy is now a valet. Establishing the car and the girls as iconic images of ZZ Top helped them wow the younger generation. The car was so popular that Gibbons had another one made to take on tour.

Thing is, Hendrix and Gibbons have the exact same playing style. The only difference, the type of accents, where to use them and when. Small details, but that small detail made their styles unique to everyone else amd each other. This made Hendrix highly respect Gibbons. There one other that plays this same style, but incorporates his own unique accent: Josh Homme.

The original line-up was formed in Houston and consisted of Gibbons, bassist/organist Lanier Greig,[12] and drummer Dan Mitchell.[12] The name of the band was Gibbons' idea. The band had a little apartment covered with concert posters and he noticed that many performers' names used initials. Gibbons particularly noticed B.B. King and Z.Z. Hill and thought of combining the two into "ZZ King", but considered it too similar to the original name. He then figured that "king is going at the top" which brought him to "ZZ Top."[13]

I was in grade 9 when this came out. There was a girl, who became a popular musician, used to wear miniskirts and everytime she walked into class "Legs" would play in my head. It wasn't just teenage hormones, I mean this girl was beautiful

To me it's the greatest chorus lyric of all time! "Gimme all of your loving (and then it's like Oh yeah, while we are at it) "and all of your hugs and kisses too"! Very clever, LOL!

I saw ZZ Top one time at the Lakeland Civic Center (FL) in March 1986, don't remember which night. Jimmy Barnes was the opening act. Fuzzy guitars were in effect.

I've always wondered how they went from small town Texas boogie to the biggest band in the US with a Pop image and then back to small town Texas boogie. The orchestration was amazing - the image was a huge part of it. The videos are amzing in that they almost tell a story when put together. But the little things, like the dusters, the keys, the car, the little movements in unison, the fuzzy guitars etc. Totally not in line with a hard core Texas blue band. God I love the ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZs

Remember going to W H Smith with my dad, he brought this album on vinyl, I remember thinking the car on the front was the coolest thing I'd even seen. Got home mum was out he put it on his B&O stereo with speakers the size of fridges, turned it up to 11, sounded amazing. Still love this song and album 35yrs later.

1983. This is from their best selling album Eliminator. The official videos to Sharp Dressed Man and Legs are classics too.

The best thing about Billy G is that he never rushes through a solo. He just glides through them

Good that you watched the official video for this one. “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Legs” from the same album are kind of a trilogy. Worth watching the official videos for them, if not all the ones that exist from ZZ Top. But do those two next. They’re kind of related.

It was 1980. Back when rock was king. I pity kids nowadays missing out on the GREAT music we grew up with! :)

"switching to glide/the beat goes on" another great one from the early 80's.
