The albums they put out in the 80s are as great as those they put out in the 70s, in fact 'Eliminator' is an awesome album regardless of era it was released in. I was so glad to be able to see ZZ Top in concert a couple years ago. They are such skilled entertainers, old school. The show was simple, just 3 guys on stage. That's all they needed, no flash, no smoke, no fire. Just 3 dudes with so much style and class. All those moves you see them doing in the videos they do them on stage. The flashiest part of the show were the matching rhinestone jackets they were wearing.

@PristineTX4 жыл бұрын
ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons has had a long life in music. Born and raised in a musical family just outside of Houston, TX, he started down the road of becoming a pro musician in the late 1950s at only seven years old, and by 14 had already studied percussion under Tito Puente and had gotten into electric guitar. He was heavily influenced by black music, especially the electric blues players and boogie bands of the time, before eventually being influenced by the more psychedelic blues/rock of Texas bands like the 13th Floor Elevators in 1960s, which is how he eventually met and toured with Jimi Hendrix. He and his bandmates in ZZ Top never forgot their blues/boogie roots though, and the responsibility to always entertain the audience. That's where the sense of humor and fun comes in, along with the little coordinated dance moves they incorporated in their live shows and videos. Those elements were a nod to those that came before them from the blues/boogie to Motown and beyond.
@michaelloveland13304 жыл бұрын
Many calls for "Just Got Paid", "Waitin' for the Bus / Jesus Just Left Chicago" (you MUST do those two together, there's a law about that!) and now you hit their big hit. The X was XERB, Mexican radio. Noted on a previous reaction that when I went camping as a kid in the early 1960's we could get the signal (500,000 watts from 40 feet inside the Mexican border to evade power limits) we'd get Wolfman Jack spinnin' the disks on AM radio. Full of static, faded in and out, best damned music from outside the "record industry". Early pirate radio! If you heard it on the X, you heard what real music was goin' down and were an early insider.

ZZ Top practices or used to practice in the warehouses at the end of my neighborhood. My dad used to be a cop, and he used to get called over there in the middle of the night to investigate noise complaints. He'd wander in and find ZZ Top jamming at like 3am. I met Billy Gibbons at the Men's Warehouse one day when I was getting a suit for my buddy's wedding. Bizarrely, he said he didn't have a suit, and he needed one to go on some talk show (I think he said Conan O'Brien?) the next night. Super chill dude. He hung out and chatted with us while we were all waiting for the MW employees to figure the suits out.
