Their song Tush is a lot of fun. Legs and Sharp Dressed Man are ‘80s MTV staples. Their music videos are a lot of fun as well. They are always mysterious figures helping an underdog.

@JasonDawe Жыл бұрын
True that. Dude is like a clock
@JKM3954 жыл бұрын
The drummer is Frank Beard who, oddly enough is the only one without a massive beard. The lead guitarist/singer is Billy Gibbons. He plays super thin strings with very heavy picks. How he doesn't break more strings I'll never know. The bassist is Dusty Hill. He also sings lead on a few songs, but his bass is super tight. These guys came from Houston Texas and formed in 1969. I know that videos can be a hassle sometimes, but some of theirs are must watch even if you choose to do so on your own time. It's hard to choose a favorite song, so I'll give you two. "I've gotsta get paid" (link below) kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZKsi4qgftmFm6s And "Waitin' For the Bus - Jesus Just Left Chicago" There's no video for this one, but I'll link the audio from 1973 below. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZnOvoJlmfJemidk I've always liked "That little ole band from Texas." Their musicianship is top notch and I happen to love and play blues guitar. Billy Gibbons is one of my heroes. I got to see them live in Birmingham, AL in 99 with Lynyrd Skynyrd and it was a fantastic show. Sorry for the long comment. I hope you continue to enjoy these guys and I suspect you will. Have a great evening, and Merry Christmas sir.

@@abovetheinfluence9361 I've never heard them say there was a reason behind the beards. I have a rather large beard myself, so I certainly approve of their choice. I am from Houston which is their hometown and I am old so I first heard this when it came out in the early '70's. It is an ode to the blues and specifically the style of John Lee Hooker. He even deepens the tone of his voice to match Hooker's sound...how, how, how. LOL The drummer is Frank Beard. The lyrics are about a famous "chicken ranch" (brothel) outside of La Grange which had just been closed down about the time of this song. Their name is also a tribute to the blues that is taken from greats Z Z Hill and B B King (King is the top). I hope this all helps answer some questions. Thanks for playing them as they bring me home again.

Back in the late 60's early 70's when I was a child, all my friends and people that I met had personal record collections. Everybody would hit you with their favorites when they could. I remember where I was when I hear this song for the first time. We were at this kids house who was a friend of a friend. He was into the beatles but I wasn't. Then he pop out Tres Hombres, and cued up La Grange. The moment I heard it, I knew the chords were lifted from Spirit in the Sky, a song that was a top 10 hit back in the early 60's. I forgave ZZ Top though cause they took it someplace else. Everytime I listen to La Grange, so do my neighbors.

Billy Gibbons is the lead (and only) guitar player as there was only 1 guitar, a Bass player, and the Drummer. They were what is called a power trio. Back in 68, they toured Europe with "The Jimi Hendrix Experience" after Jimi heard them in a small club in some small Texas town. Jimi fell in love with Gibbons Blues style, and the two shared a "Bro-mance" after that. They talk about this in the documentary. They all used to sneak out as teens and drive up to see the old blues masters playing in small clubs. I was about 15 when I first heard Tush off the Fandango Album - their 4th. I then saw them in concert at the Capitol Centre in Landover MD very shortly after on the Fandango tour - so 1976. My girlfriend and her friend stood in line for tickets (no internet then :-) for about 6 hours but got us something like row 16 center. In fact they had to move our seats to the right to make room for the recording equipment as they filmed that show. The opening band was supposed to be Elvin Bishop but they had their equipment stolen so Styx opened for them - my first time seeing Styx. One of the greatest concerts I ever saw. Two of my all time favorite bands. ZZ Top actually had livestock on the stage. I remember a Razorback, a bull and a Condor Bird. It was crazy. Set was like a barn - was meant to be. When they did Backdoor Medley the place lost it. Really anything off Fandango or Tres Hombres is over the top awesome. They have other good songs and albums but they went a bit commercial later. Not blaming them. Have to pay the bills. And they did it with style and still great musicians - Billy Gibbons may be one of the most underrated blues and rock guitarists there is. But not my favorite ZZ Top stuff.

The whole album Tres Hombres are great. Theres a couple of songs that one segways to the other so seamlessly that they are often played as one, Waitin for the Bus and Jesus Just Left Chicago(a real heavy blues song). Another is Beer Drinkers and Hellraisers. Frank Beard is the drummer, Dusty Hill (RIP 2021) the bass player and Billy Gibbons the guitarest. The band formed in 1969 with these individuals and were the only members until Dusty passed away in 2021. They always called themselves "That little ol band from Texas".

There’s a reason it’s a classic! It’s basically jam tune with some really cool lyrics at the beginning. ZZ Top baby. My uncle Paul who played a Les Paul turned me on to all the classic stuff when I was a kid. Of course it wasn’t considered “classic “ at that time, yet. Early 80s. I was learning to play guitar like my dad and basically my whole family, and I loved the rock stuff but my dad played jazz (still does) and uncle Paul was the only one who knew how to play all the old rock jams. I would sit for hours playing on that Les Paul of his.
