I don't think any fertilizer needed. They grow fast on their own. We have nutrient rich clay soil but I did mix in some compost at the time of planting.

I saw them at clearance of Lowes and was surprise to find such a fine rose there! I bought 2 of them, whose flowers were almost done. I deadheaded and planted them on the ground. Surprisingly only one week later they started to produce lots of shoots, and buds appeared about one more week after that. How vigorous they are!

Just brought a “winter fire”! Looks very promising. Have it at a corner of a driveway border in front of a white fence. It’ll eventually have a peanut butter tree canopy to shade it from 6-7hr sun in summer. Mixes nice with ninebark and Fothergila. Thanks for this video! Let’s me know maybe what I’ll expect. CT can’t be too much difference than NJ😂Cheers!

My neighbors have one on the rear property line with my downward sloping yard. Its roots, the biggest of which grows high above ground, have reached my patio, 50 feet away. The rest of them spread across the top of the soil in a fine web. Nothing other than weeds grows more than 30 feet from its trespassing trunk. It contributes a variety of debris year-round and attracts boxelder bugs that crawl all over my house every spring. It’s the only species of tree I hate.

I'm sorry you have to deal with that. 🌹Hopefully no branches come down on anyone. 🙏

I planted 5 green giants this summer to block my annoying neighbours next door. They never mow and leave junk around their yard. I can't wait until my giants have blocked my view of their lazy and out of control yard.
@FumblingwithFlowersАй бұрын
O I'm so sorry you have annoying neighbors. I was so happy to move away from annoying neighbors and now we have nice neighbors. Our one place where most people can relax is at home and inconsiderate people can ruin even that. Please make sure they get enough water. Green Giants are really beautiful trees. Btw, your choice of 5 is a nice odd number that is pleasing to the eye too.

Eden rose is a rose for shade gardens. You planted it exposed to all day direct sun and it's delicate rosettes got burned. Move it to a more shady spot where it gets coverage from afternoon sun.
@FumblingwithFlowers2 ай бұрын
Thank you, that is good advice however this is the only year it did so poorly despite the growing crepe myrtle tree next to it giving it more shade this year. I believe the darned rose slugs may be the main culprit. I will try to treat those rose slugs next year. I'm not looking forward to that work lol.

Did you ever have problems with it leaking from the connection points? I sure did.
@FumblingwithFlowers2 ай бұрын
I didn't notice any leaking from connection points but it is buried under mulch and the amount wouldn't be an issue in that area because we have a good deal of soil for it to drain into. If it's causing an issue for your situation, have you thought about disassembling it and putting silicone at the connections to make it water tight?

It works. Took a lot of effort and ingenuity and I think you won. Honestly in this day and age I have spent too much time on KZbin, Amazon, Home Depot looking for 40 in down spout diverters and non are aesthetic at all . Found one that was 36 inches flat with 2 inch lip that you can fill with small stones but it's a few inches too short and those with the fat round attachments are hideous. I'm wondering if a piece of the gutter itself cut to fit under the downspout would work and fill with stones to keep secure and look somewhat ok. Here's the issue, a lot of people have uneven yards or want water to be directed specifically. Yes those hard plastic flat ones work but seem to only be 2 feet in size.
@FumblingwithFlowers2 ай бұрын
I sympathize. I don't want to think about how much time I've spent searching for things or obsessing about things that probably don't warrant it. Sometimes it's best to experiment and do something different (especially if it's not costly) to see what works for your unique set of circumstances. Best of luck!

As far as blossom color, it takes time for the bud to saturate in color. For example, the roses in fall usually have much better color because the buds take weeks to open instead of a few days in summer. I find it easier to just squish the rose slugs and aphids. It’s only a couple weeks that they’re very active. That one by the house is not looking good. I’d trim all that dead stuff and hopefully it’ll leaf out again. 🤞🏻

Hi, very nice video I was suprised you did not cover the gravel with geofabric but if not soil or grass is on top then it is not needed. At the end of the pipe where you have the green outlet, you can do a few things 1. use a gutter adapter to go from round to oblong by using round to oblong gutter pipe adapter, as it is about 1/3 the high you can use if for a few yards as it will remain low 2. use some plastic sheet, ow as you used about 6 cubic yards of gravel in the trench, then the top surface should be closer to 2 cubic yards of say river pebble or white / red pebble as a decorative top. 2 years ago i used what i thought was sandstone blocks, but they are really aerated concrete blocks with a sandstone texture and colour , between the blocks and the house is about 2 foot and i filled that with 20mm or 3/4 inch size washed river pebbles The front of the house is white, the sides of the house ( non driveway side ) is a cheaper brown/grey 10mm ( less than 1/2 inch egg shaped pebbles, some are chipped - it does not matter as they are about 1/3 the price of the nice larger which pebbles 3. where the green end of the pipe is, consider a adapter for stormwater to schedule 40 pipe and just use the last 2 foot as schedule 40, this will be much stronger in case you walk over it - and it is just a small piece and being closer to the surface it may be better with a stronger pipe 4. where the pipe end at the green bit, to stop the mud being created (until the grass grows ) , you can use some pebbles or grab some pavers and lay them in front of the pipe, then run them to the road, the flat surface of the paver will make the water run better and not make any more water trenches it wont take to many paver, i think about 4 or 6 wide is plenty then go forward - i had a quick look at home depot, some nice cream pavers for 60 cents ( i cant believe i was geo-blocked and had to use vpn to view home depot as i am in australia ) you have a nice yard btw regards george
@FumblingwithFlowers3 ай бұрын
Hi George, hello to you in Australia! Thank you for your kind comment and many useful tips! We didn't do the extra fabric step because we read about it slowing down water flow and the risk of clogging from our fine, clay soil. Often our rain accumulations are from quick, intense downpours where we need to guide the water ASAP. Despite the imperfections, fortunately for us, we've had no clogs of any kind and everything is functioning well even years later at least in our situation. Maybe one day we'll remove the catch basins when we have time as I feel like they are an eyesore and not that functional in this particular instance. Anyway, I will definitely keep your tips in mind for future projects, thank you sir!

Nice! It might not be a good idea to plant in front of your roses. Roses like air circulation and sun to burn the morning dew off the leaves. That dampness gives them fungus and diseases.
@FumblingwithFlowers3 ай бұрын
Agreed, it's always best to try to space roses out with plenty of sun and air circulation especially in our wet area in NJ.
