New Compaq suck I have the 14 inch version of this called Compaq CQ42, For a first laptop after I had been using my dad’s IBM Thinkpad T43 for so many years It’s a worst laptop I have ever used. It’s overheating all the time that it’s shut off. Constant 100% CPU that made me hate the Core i3 CPU at the time (I owned some core 2 duo laptop that work better than this). For a non chiclet keyboard, it is the worst traditional laptop keyboard I have ever use opposite of a good traditional keyboard find on an old laptop and old Thinkpad. Trackpad is bad just like a new Dell XPS laptop that have hidden trackpad. This laptop is why I hate Intel Core i3 and Trackpad. When those were on a good computer like the Thinkpad T410i, the trackpad, trackpoint are much better to use. The i3 cpu work great too. Oh battery quality suck too, I’m so lucky it’s didn’t explode but the battery is no longer hold charge for 2 years, while I have an old IBM Thinkpad T43 battery that still hold charge. I should have buy a Fujitsu Lifebook instead of getting brainwashed by Compaq (Thinkpad T410 would have been too expensive for me that time and used market wasn’t accessible in Thailand back then as it is now). I really hate HP even before buying Compaq and now Compaq got me sucker into buying a godawful HP products as my Compaq CQ42 is a rebranded HP G42. Only last 3 years, I have many old Fujitsu Lifebook and Celsius last longer than this POS Compaq and oh I have an old IBM Thinkpad T43 that still running since 2005

I have the CQ42 in 2010 and it's overheating like hell. Battery last 2 years before its go out. I got sucker into buying a HP product because it's basically a HP G42. HP suck Now I got a Japanese made Mouse G-Tune H5. That one is a lot more reliable than HP trash. Oh the commercials are too cute!!!

Win7 was the last time the OS had a universal design language. Lots of the applets at the time got their overhaul and were brought forward and were actually tested. Ever since then it's been "incremental" design improvements that get pushed with very little to no outside testing. Win10 came very close to being as good as 7 but that's just in hindsight of how notoriously bad Win8 was for desktop users. A lot of win10's design language was thrown out with Win11's overhaul and it's disgusting. I can't wait for Win12 to throw away all of win11's design decisions for something even more stupid! Here's to Win7 for being the GOAT!

Windows 7 is easily my favorite windows, I had my best consumer experience with the whole product in this era. The old Ubuntu with classic Gnome environment and windows 7 were on a dual boot and my ADHD has never felt better or more comfortable doing computer task, I've gotten better over the years mentally but I've never struggled so much with windows as I do now. Clearly their development route doesn't take kindly to people with ADHD.

I’d say Windows 7 was the last good version of Windows. After that, they really messed things up. Windows 8/8.1 came with the Metro UI start screen, which most users hated. Windows 10 introduced privacy concerns with its telemetry, and Windows 11 has those ridiculous ‘elite’ system requirements that could turn a perfectly good PC into e-waste once Windows 10 support ends. And let’s not forget, they still haven’t merged ‘Settings’ and ‘Control Panel’ into one program for managing system settings."

Used win7 on an ancient netbook. Smoother than other versions

I think Windows 7 is still pretty modern and could still be updated to support new pc's but Microsoft only cares about invading privacy and collecting money.

Microsoft is making a big mistake by ending support for popular OS's. If they had any brains at all, they would bring back the popular ones and improve them. As long as they keep them separate and don't make them like win 11 AI .

This customer sounds like my best friend who trusted "93% health" SMART data and a (normally reputable) repair shop over my extensive expertise when I tried to tell him his heavily used 4 year old SSD was at end of life cause his OS kept going out. He tried to blame it on viruses, bad cracked Windows ISOs, etc... cause he is very poor and was looking for any escape from paying for a new one by means of confirmation bias. A few months and lots of crashing and boot partition corruption later he asked me what the best choice for his money was for a new one. Needless to say he now basically blindly trusts me for all advise regarding repair of his computers, any computers his neighbors bring to his house for repair, and now he himself got a job at a repair shop to use things I taught him to make some money.
