Lovely video! Thank you for taking us along on your journey ❤️

I feel like I'm in the middle of a novel that started off solidly and very enjoyable but has now taken a turn that has me putting the book down, pacing around the room and thinking, "Oh my goodness. I can't believe what just happened. It's a surprise but upon reflection, yes, of course, it was inevitable. This protagonist has always been wonderful and intelligent and interesting and compelling and even inspiring quite often, but now, oh my, this protagonist is even more than we were first led to believe...where is this going now?! I can't wait to read the following chapters!" Seeing the empty desk in Austria and the busy desk in Paris really hit home. That desk is where so much of it happens. And its happening in Paris now. If your internet friends like me are excited I can't imagine how excited you are. Do you ever think that Paris studying literature is like your conversation with the cab driver? It was all right there, and when you chose to stretch, wonderful things happened. It's a good lesson for us all. Thank you for taking us along on the many layers of this journey. I'm stuck on my novel analogy today but your vlog is turning out to be like a great novel. Great novels, some say, have one thing: everything. Congratulations. I can see you're going to live deeply and I'm soooooooo happy this was not the Sunday I had to deal with no video from you! LOL, all the best.

Hi! I'm so excited for you and the fact you're reading Proust who is my favorite writer of all time... I've been watching your videos for a while now and I just wanted to thank you for all the inspiration. You make me sooooo nostalgic about studying literature ! I'm French actually and I work in a bookshop near the Buttes Chaumont in Paris. I would be thrilled to drink a coffee and talk about literature with you if you want 🎉

@@strange.lucidity Oh. Whoops. Silly me. For some reason I thought it was for one year. I mustn’t have listened carefully in your video. I suppose one Semester is half a year, which is still a good length of time to experience Paris and study at the Sorbonne University. I’m sure you’ll still have a wonderful experience. Looking forward to your next video for an update 📚📒🖊

From Whitman's A Song for Occupations: "Happiness, not in another place / in this place / not at another hour / in this hour." Paris is magical (for me) not in a Disney sense, but in a haunted forest sense... so beautiful so often you can barely believe it, never quite knowing if the beauty is dangerous or life-changing, or both. It will be a grand adventure, Maria!

I would be very careful with anything valuable. Always have what is valuable in front of you and avoid holding out cameras and phones in crowded areas. Never leave your phone on benches etc. As to places to chill go to the Isle and the Marais for cafes.

@@strange.lucidity I have first hand knowledge of these kinds of issues - but of course from my perspective whilst there is some darkness, Paris is really and fabulously a City of Light that outshines all of this. For someone like you who loves literature, music and the arts - it is paradise. I love Paris and made so many friends and had wonderful experiences there too. Look forward to enjoying them once again vicariously through your vlogs - and yes I like the other channel too.

Fais super gaffe! I got pickpocketed near Odéon - my passport was stolen which was a nightmare to get replaced. I find it funny how people always romanticize Paris. Reality is that it's full of homeless, rats, tourists, crazies, and criminals - also the dirtiest place I've lived in Europe.

Oui, the first question to pop up upon arrival: Parlez-vous francais? I can only imagine the joy you must have felt eating croissant on a train ride and the accompanying read of Proust in marked solitude, the world outside passing by in a flash. It's very interesting also hearing you describe your first impressions of France in terms of dualistic oppositions existing side-by-side.
