You're so right, and I can't believe the (completely legal) platform I just used to rewatch SU SKIPPED this episode. It's so vital. It leads right into things like Familiar and Change Your Mind where Steven is literally parenting the goddamn Diamonds, having prepared for that by dealing with all the incompetent adults in his life (this including Greg and all the CGs, as well as what Rose left behind). No wonder that taught him that he can't share how he feels in Future.

I actually think SUF is genuine terrific. How Steven navigates through change and trauma feels so point on in my opinion. I can empathize even more with all of Steven's flaws than with the (also terrific) original. To me though, it seems Future gets a lot of negative reviews because it is likely to subvert (fanhood) expectations - which in my opinion is only a compliment to the makers. Whenever I do a rewatch I start with Future!

I agree with most of the list however i would put the new lars in f-tier becus it dosent rely give steven a consequence for his actions of posesing someone body not for a good reason but because he thinks lars and saydie should be together. Also i dont like body swap epasods all that much especly with steven being less matur than la4s in this epasode making it more unsetaling for me.

3:23 The filler is completely defendible٫ I understand some episodes aren't such a big deal to the main story but we should consider the purpose of some episodes: Some episodes explain to us how gems work٫ some episodes work in a small arc that does affect the characters٫ we should talk about the townie episodes that are so overhated but you just don't get their points٫ Steven isn't only a gem٫ he's half human and the town is his only way to feel like one٫ to feel like home٫ if we don't know these characters then you'll feel dull towards any threat to earth in general٫ and heck the sadie and lars episodes are equally important because both of these events affect them both. Lion 4 makes us see them pink legs and also to get Steven's motive in the "i am my mom" episode٫ because he feels the burden to take responsibility in what his mom never finished. Also some episodes are goofy and that because we are seeing things as steven does٫ he's a kid٫ he is trying to have fun in general and that's okay to understand him٫ but the gem world is the "adult" world and stuff٫ Rebecca mentioned this is on purpose
