This is arguably one of the best forms of cinema, of all time. Hands down amazing show. So fing hyped for season 2. This is the best star wars. So good it makes me forget it's based in starwars, and feels instead completely grounded and somehow like real life

I really don't get this whole ancient-old idea of Superman somehow being a symbol of hope or - even worse - "an ideal to strive towards". He's de facto a trust-fund baby (except with superpowers, not money). He did not have to work a single day to be invincible or able to fly. He's an alien with properties no human can ever achieve (unless those crazy enough to believe in transhumanism (which is evil by default)). And the hope part? What hope? Back in the 20th century it was entertaining to see him repel super-villains that could shoot lasers out of their arses and stuff like that. But a Superman that goes after space monsters in 2025 is nothing but bread and circus. He should go after billionaires, and corporations, Wallstreet and crazed politicians. E.g. the oligarchy that has the world entire in a chokehold. Yeah, yeah, Luther is a billionaire, but you can bet that Sups is not taking a stand for all the people who's lives have been made absolutely miserable by the actions of the Luthers, and Bezoses of the world. If you want mere escapism? FINE! But don't talk about hope. There is nothing hopeful about those Superman-movies (all of them). And there is no ideal to strive towards. It's just shareholders craving a quick buck by milking another worn out IP. And y'all are falling for it.

I agree with your underlying points, but as capitalism subsumes art, we still need figures that can inspire hope. In your attempt to realign Superman to your views you have not extracted how Superman can lift them up. And that's what matters to me. Yes, Superheroes in all cape comics maintain the status quo. But you can take far more from them. Superman is hopeful because he stands for a world where power is compassionate. A world where hope lives on because its very embodiment cannot destroyed by bullets or shattered by oligarchs. In a world where people like Luthor use money and power to take and hurt, Superman just helps. He shares his gift with other and never asks for anything in return. He is the ultimate embodiment of an altruistic care for others. He is diametrically opposed to greed and hatred. He never stops believing and always tries to find the best in people. As a pure myth, Superman is what we could be when we cast aside the corruption of power and actually share it with the masses. I highly recommend Absolute Superman. It just dropped recently. It actually addresses Superman as a force that could change the status quo. New writers are utilizing him for this.

Superman differs from other capes in how he approaches the transcendental. If he existed, millions would worship him as their literal god. People would study Kal-El Holy Books containing every word he ever said. It wouldn't just be a cult - there would be several competing religious orders.

@@fantasticbirdbluecoming from an agnostic perspective, I always hated the imagery of Jesus superimposed into Superman, making him this untouchable figure that separates himself from us, however I realized recently that a little bit of what makes Jesus’ story so regarded (in the Bible) is because he only wanted the best for all people and the freedom to live unchained. That’s Superman. He really is one of us, human first.

@aubreypressley1450 2 күн бұрын
@maximiliankemnitz1869 agreed. I don't care for this god-like distance. The power of Superman is that this god-like distance does not exist and he ensures it doesn't. Now it might, perhaps there would be religious books, of him, but the power of Superman is in the fact that people see him as a friend. They view him as a compassionate person just wanting to help.

Thank you for putting into words everything I have ever felt about this show. It is my favorite piece of visual media bar none and idc if no one else feels that way. Andor scratched a storytelling itch I’ve had since I was a kid and I’m not sure if anything will ever scratch that itch in the way it did ever again and honestly I’m ok with that. Andor is a story I know I can keep coming back to again and again, experiencing it new ways and learning new things. That said this video also gave me the same feeling because it scratched a critical commentary itch I’ve had and it’s safe to say I’ll be coming back to this video too.

It never fails. Every movie adapted from a book will receive criticism from those that want only an exact duplicate of the author's work. It gets to be a bore. It only shows a lack of understanding. For example, even The Lord of the Rings and Lawrence of Arabia received criticism for changes to the original storylines: The Lord of the Rings Some critics say that Peter Jackson's film adaptation of The Lord of the Rings weakened the story and characters by prioritizing action and violence over psychological depth. J.R.R. Tolkien's son, Christopher, also disliked the film, saying that it "eviscerated the book" and made it more like an action movie. Lawrence of Arabia The film received criticism from the family of Allenby, who lodged a formal complaint against Columbia Pictures. Descendants of Auda Abu Tayi and Sharif Nassir, who the film's character Ali was based on, also sued Columbia. Tell you what. If you're just beside yourself with disappointment because the Dune films strayed from the novels, I have a suggestion. Feed the novels into an AI engine and tell it to make you your own private film adaptation. I'm sure it will be MUCH better than these movies. Maybe then you can stop acting like a little twit.
