@@jefflong7036 This video is super old now and the high beam issues are now fixed with the adaptive led matrix function being active. No class needed. Hello Matt, how are you? I don't think my Model 3 LFP calibrate it's battery on the UMC. I have it connected to 32A socket but I restrict it to 17A due to the 20A fuse... @@catalinalb1722 Hi. I’m good. I just haven’t had time for my channel the last few months. It’s a shame you can’t run the full 32a. I am running my UMC in a 32a circuit with a 32a breaker here in Australia which gives me 7kW. There is no Tesla 3phase UMC, the UMC powers of 1-phase only when using a 3-phase adapter. It is hard to tell 100% if your car is calibrating or not. Do you mean balance? At 100% SOC it will sit there for a while to allow all cells to top up to a set voltage. If you use ScanMyTesla or service mode you will see the voltage can get up over 400V. The car will then rest the battery and slowly bleed off the higher voltage cells. After an hour or so you will see the battery settle down to around 370V with the cells balanced. A calibration would be draining your battery down to 10% and leaving it to AC charge back to 100%.

It would be good if the range calculation was based on your past mileage since reset of a trip meter. That way it would be kind of more accurate to your average driving style. Like how my Mazda 3 can use the first trip meter when it calculates the L/100km Which I reset whenever I fill the car at a gas station. It also gives me a rough idea if something isn't right if say I don't achieve the average over time, say as the car ages. If it drops by a significant margin then I know that I might need to get it checked up on. (Assuming it was really poor)

@@ArmChairPlum The good thing about this though is it’s good for measuring degradation at 100% SOC. Trailer mode can be deactivated in the Dynamic and steering section of the settings. You can then use AP as normal. The only AP feature that seems to be affected while towing is auto lane change. Normal AP functions just fine. I just caution people in this video to be careful when towing a trailer and using AP. I don’t recommend that. In normal circumstances AP works fine but in an emergency situation when the car needs to react it might not work well or if the trailer is affected by a cross wind. These scenarios would be difficult or dangerous to demonstrate. I use AP all the time with a bike rack fitted and it’s only auto lane change that doesn’t work due to the rear camera being blocked. @@Martinko_Pcik the good thing about LFP is most of these different charging methods make very little difference to the overall life and degradation. So choose a method that works for your situation. The worst thing to do is to drive around with your foot to the floor everywhere. High discharge current is just as bad as the opposite direction. Other don’ts are running down to zero or keeping it at 100% for long periods when the battery is at very high temps like after supercharging. Charging to 100% also has the benefit of balancing the cells. LFP needs balancing more often and unbalanced cells with lower voltage suffer more as they become a weak link. Even this is a minor thing with overall life when it comes to a well designed & built battery.

@@abelincoln3261 I agree but If you do put an LFP battery on charge it’s best to let it go to 100% for long term battery health to ensure cells are balanced. LFP cells have a slightly higher self discharge than other chemistries so need regular balancing. It’s probably still a minor difference in overall life but it’s a good habit to have. If you have ScanMyTesla hooked up you will see when the charge gets close to 100% how far the imbalance is and it’s surprising. This is when you see the true imbalance of the cells. I will demonstrate this in an upcoming video.

Hi are you able to probs create a video of how you setup SMT and worked out your charging schedule to get the max from your battery. Watched the video that you explained something about battery percentage difference that changed. I have a 2 month old model 3 highland RWD. I have a wall connector at home and really like you only charge using that at the moment. I so far have done several charges from 20%, 30% + SOC to 80% and once a week I charge to 100%. I have it set to not charge above 90% weekly and on a Friday to 100%. I don’t do a lot of driving but there is so much info around having car plugged in while at home.
@notinthemanual
@notinthemanual 5 ай бұрын
@@petefan1215 I’d be skeptical of most info out there. The best places for honest info are channels that are not trying to maximise views based off myths about battery life. I never call myself an expert I just use my experience with battery electric machinery to present data and share good info I find during research. LFP chemistry is pretty robust so best thing you can do is not over complicate it. At 100% SOC the LFP cells are only at 3.5-3.6v. This is not stressful for a lion-ion cell. They are under more stress if they are unbalanced which LFP cells are more prone to if not charged to 100% where most of the cell voltage balancing happens. I am very lucky to have the best charging situation where I can charge at work anytime I want and this is mostly from solar. My current charging habit is running it down to between 20-30% before I put it on charge. If I need to do an emergency 1000km trip I can stop at a supercharger 😉. I then leave it to charge to 100% while I am working. Most of the time I can get away with charging once a week but lately I have been charging twice a week. My theory is if you put it on charge just let it go to 100% where it will get some cell balancing. Then let it rest and stabilise for an hour or so after. No need to leave it plugged in. Only time you would leave it plugged in is if you want faster battery and cabin precondition. I have my car set to precondition every morning by 730am when I leave for work. This gives me a warm battery and a comfortable cabin. Fully cycling the battery from a lower SOC to 100% helps to maintain an accurate battery capacity measurement by the BMS. The capacity loss I talk about in some of my videos is degradation. No li-ion battery is immune to this. LFP will have a faster initial degradation over the first 50000km than other chemistries but will have less degradation over the whole lifetime. They tend to stabilise after a while. In saying that battery longevity comes down to a number of things, some are within your control like how you drive and not over discharging the battery, others are managed by the BMS like charging curves and thermal management. One of the unknowns is quality of manufacturing and additives to the battery chemistry. This will be proven in time but CATL are one of the best. So to sum up my answer I’d worry more about your driving habits than charging habits. How you discharge the energy can actually cause more damage than how you charge. Flooring the accelerator at every traffic light will not be good for your battery health.

It’s highly unlikely but if this PFAS chemical is used in batteries then at least it is contained in a battery and not burnt and spewed into the air for all of us to breathe in. There would be much worse chemicals than that used in manufacturing many products. I’ve always said if you want to save the environment don’t buy as much disposable products if you don’t need them especially cars, gas or electric. They all use a lot of resources and nasty chemicals to manufacture.

@@notinthemanual yes chemicals are used in many things that destroy the environment but most break down not bis-FASIs they stay in the environment forever. Are highly toxic to all lifeforms. My point is they have lied to us all saying how great and green this technology truly is. When it actually pollutes the planet much more than petroleum products ever could.

Good job explaining E car tech for the layman. Im an Ebike guy and electric enthusiast but this video is very good for people considering an electric vehicle from an ICE.

I own an unbelievelbly cheap 2012 Peugeot. The automatic wipers work perfectly and always have done. Tesla is a "tech" company and they cant do this? Going bankrupt soon. For sure.

@@geoffwoodgate7450 I agree this is an easy fix with a sensor or at least a sensitivity adjustment I think they got ahead of themselves with this and thought they could make it work like FSD years ago where they overpromised. Tesla is about minimising and simplifying and we are often the beta testers of features before they really should be released. As a Tesla owner I understand this but don’t always agree with it. The point of this video is to show that they are working very well right now. I can’t agree with you about Tesla as a whole though. The wiper issue is not a big deal in the scheme of things. It is very well known and the Model Y is still the best selling car. The trouble is the rest of the car is so far ahead of everyone else in many ways which makes the auto wipers seem like a bigger deal. We expect more. Other car companies take years to implement minor changes. I don’t particularly like Elon as a person but it’s a mistake to bet against him.
