Completely agree with the PWS being too loud. My April built Model 3 from Shanghai has the "Superhorn" where the PWS speaker makes all normal horn sounds too. I hate the backup sound, and I've got some bits to disable the speaker while the car is in reverse. I have no idea why people would pay extra to have it fitted retrospectively!
@notinthemanual

Yes I remember you telling me about yours. I was hoping I would miss out on the PWS for this reason. I want the car to be safer around pedestrians but that isn’t the right way to do it. I think the white noise it makes in forward is good enough for reverse too.

Thanks Michael. The only cargo blind I’ve found that stayed in the car most of the time is in my wife’s Mazda CX5. It attaches to the tailgate and lifts out of the way automatically. It’s a great design. With me throwing my bike in this car regularly even that style blind would have to come out. Also no good if you have dogs in the back regularly.

Cheers. I refuse to script my videos so they end up being a bit longer than I initially plan. I do have a rough plan in my head for what I will talk about but feel if I have to script it then I don’t really understand the topic. I’ve got to drive up to the Hunter for work on Wednesday so I’m hoping to film an economy test. Real world range tests are time consuming as these cars are super efficient around the city. It’s on the long list of videos I want to make with this car. I’m just time poor at the moment.

We use our 2023 Model Y RWD on a daily basis for taking our kids from Ultimo to Leichhardt for school, along with other typical city driving activities like weekend trips to the beach and grocery shopping. The city-driving range is quite good, exceeding 400km easily. However, during intercity travel at speeds well above 80km/h, the range diminishes, dropping to around 300km. As for the current charging stats of our car, it has covered a distance of 2900km with a total energy consumption of approximately 500kWh according to Tesla app. With a usable battery capacity of 57.5kWh, this translates to a range of about 330km. This lower average range can be attributed to the fact that more than half of the mileage consists of intercity driving exceeding 100km/h. One advantage of living in the city is the availability of many free 20kW charging stations. Free Tesla wall chargers are conveniently located next to superchargers and there are also other networks like ChargeFox, offering free charging. A valuable tip I'd like to share is related to financing an EV purchase through salary sacrifice. This method proves to be more economical than purchasing the car in casg. I personally followed this route and am still amazed by the outcome, especially after budgetting in all running expenses as tax deductibles. The main catch is, currently EVs are exempt from Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT), even if they are used exclusively for private purposes. You can find more information about this exemption on ATO’s website: www.ato.gov.au/Business/Fringe-benefits-tax/Types-of-fringe-benefits/fbt-on-cars,-other-vehicles,-parking-and-tolls/electric-cars-exemption/ And before you order make sure to use a referral code to get a $750 discount. Mine is here :) x.com/boraoku/status/1678182839081218051?s=46&t=zYZusD5kvxv3CP3LxZwSRw but maybe better use NITM’s referral which is in the video description :)

I just realised KZbin was holding some comments for review. Apparently it didnt like some of the words you were using haha. Thanks for all of this info. Yes, range is an area that is difficult to explain to people and is always the first question a non-ev owner will ask. Once you own an EV you get to understand how it all works. Its very difficult to acheive the displayed range on a Tesla which is why I totally ignore this and leave it as a percentage. The main figure is the consumption per km and the estimated SOC at arrival in the navigation. The engergy app is the best tool for range. It gives you range based on your driving style. Interesting about salary sacrifice. Thats good info to have here so thank you. Its not something that would suit my situation but will be useful to know for some.

Hi Günter. Interesting about the rear seats. Unfortunately I don’t know how you would tell battery type either. Maybe your range at 100%. Mine is 435km with 20”wheels. The BYD blade battery is slightly less capacity so will have a reduced range. I think 19” wheels show 455km at 100% with CATL battery. I think there would also be some interior differences with a structural battery pack. Might explain the differences with your seats.

@notinthemanual
@notinthemanual Жыл бұрын
Hi Mick. I think some people are a bit over the top about this. In my opinion it’s not a big deal. Like any car it gets hot if left in full sun on a hot day. The black interior doesn’t help. You can easily cool the car before you get back to it which is awesome. The glass is very good at shielding you from the direct sunlight but the issue is the glass itself heats up and radiates heat. Once you start driving and get some air flowing over the outside it’s not too bad. The MY is better as the glass is further from your head. Glass roof shades help but I rarely use them. You need to get roof shades that are reflective to be any use.
@notinthemanual

The glass roof is just like tinted door windows. They are great at shielding you from the heat but still get hot to touch. I am not a sunroof person but this glass roof is one of the nicest parts of the car. It really gives an open feel and a great view.

Congrats on the new ride! I have a year old 22 MY RWD, by way of comparison only real difference is easier access to the emergency door release in the rear seats. We have the rest of the other items you made mention of, rear seat size is the same. Do you have lumbar support in the new build? Will you be adding PWS to this one? I got around to installing a Satonic power frunk. Only thing that’s tricky is access to removing existing struts but overall not too difficult an install. Works really well and loving the ease of access. Also the haloblk products are great quality. I’m sure you will love them.

Gday there, my Model Y comes in 2-3 weeks. Where did you get the rear boot liner & upper rear seat protectors?
@notinthemanual
@notinthemanual Жыл бұрын
Hey Chris. I got these from Braumach online store. Not sure if I like them yet but I needed something at short notice. It’s more the look and texture but the seat back protectors do catch a little when you fold the seats back up. It could just be they need a slight reposition. I had liners from Tesmanian for my Model 3 and they were great but they had no stock. I will most likely change to them at some stage. They are TPE and have more of the rubber look. These Braumach ones are more of a soft textured feel. They will probably grow on me and actually feel nice to sit on. It’s nice to be back in a SUV and have somewhere to sit out of the weather. Braumach have local stock and delivery was fast.
@notinthemanual
@notinthemanual Жыл бұрын
I just checked and Braumach are sold out. Jowua and Otrifowd have liners similar material to mine but are more expensive. For the rear seat protectors make sure you get the 3 piece set. I can highly recommend Tesmanian for quality but they aren’t soft feel type. It depends what you like.

Hi Matt, i cant decide between RWD and LR Y. Have you looked at LR and why RWD if you compare those two options of Y?
@notinthemanual
@notinthemanual Жыл бұрын
Firstly I don’t need AWD where I live and what I use the car for. I don’t need the extra range either. It’s just not necessary for around the city. LFP is a better battery from my point of view. Consistent power output, much safer and lower lifetime degradation. Being able to charge to 100% on a regular basis closes the range gap around the city too. If I lived somewhere remote or needed AWD for traction reasons then a LR would make more sense. Performance would be another reason to go with LR but this doesn’t do much for me. The RWD is good enough and is more powerful than most ICE SUVs. Lastly is price. It’s very hard to justify the extra spend for the reasons above.

@notinthemanual

@@fisherrr333 It is more balanced but I don’t push it hard enough to worry. RWD is good enough for me. My Model 3 had too much power for a a RWD and got a little annoying in the wet when traction control would cut in so easily. The Y has less torque but wider tyres so it feels better than the 3. It really is a personal thing. Both cars are awesome.

Hi Matt, I'm picking up my RWD model y in 2-3 weeks time. 😊😊 with one full charge, what's the range km can it run?
@notinthemanual
@notinthemanual Жыл бұрын
Congratulations. Range is very complex. There is no straight answer. It depends city or highway. City range is difficult to predict. If it’s over multiple days you will get much less range as you will have phantom drain to things like preconditioning the cabin and battery each drive. Let’s exclude that and imagine you drained your battery in one hit around the city. City you will average around 140Wh/km so 57kWh available from 100% to 0% means 407km. You can take around 70-80km off that figure if you do it over multiple days. On the freeway I average around 150Wh/km so 100% - 0% is 380km. In reality you never run the car to 0% so around the city if you run down to to 10 or 15% it will be around 300km roughly. Freeway you really only need enough range to get you to the next DC fast charger with a little head room. Aim to stop every 2-3hrs for a charge.

@Vass122 Жыл бұрын
@@notinthemanual Thanks for sharing - at the end of the day you can only compare to what the car sells for new today, not what you may have paid for it a few years back, so $40k used to an equivalent $61k before any rebates is respectable, particular on a dealership trade-in. I can’t give you advice on FSD except I’m not willing to spend the money right now. I’m just going to buy EAP once my free trial is up like I had in the Model 3. It’s then only a $5k to FSD package. First Tesla indeed but I had the stock since 2016 :) it was just the ATO thing (see the other comment which I just posted) that pushed me to sell our 4 year old Xtrail and got the Model Y on a salary packaging lease. I got the EAP already with the lease budget, and very happy with its capabilities on the two long drives I did so far. I will probably get the coating soon too, but the FSD videos from US makes me want to get that instead since it seems like a bargain at this price, and might add up to the future resell price if they can get the technology deployed in the next 5 years locally in Australia. Whereas the interior is the same width, as revealed by the rear boot liner, the MY exterior is actually 2.8 inches wider. The extra width of the MY is a compromise resulting from the extra height; Tesla increased the track and wheel width (presumably) to maintain cornering stability. In my view this makes it too wide for UK city streets, country lanes & parking spaces. It also adds weight, in addition to that resulting from the extra height, and aerodynamic drag which reduce efficiency and range. So these have to be weighed against the benefits of more comfortable seating positions, extra interior space and ride height.
@notinthemanual
@notinthemanual Жыл бұрын
The extra interior space and ride height win for me over all that. I found that is height and length for the interior. I have found that the efficiency around the city is not that different from the Model 3 even with the 20” wheels. Aerodynamics don’t come into play at lower speeds. It’s only long freeway journeys that matter. It’s a personal thing as to what matters to you the most. If you don’t have a large family then the Model 3 is the better choice for sure. The cost of the efficiency difference is negligible though. I have a freeway drive to do tomorrow so will see how efficiency compares to city driving. I haven’t had the larger size affect me here in Sydney but I imagine it’s something to consider in the UK and Europe.

@@notinthemanual Yes, I agree it's a matter of choosing individual priorities. We mostly use our M3 for longer trips with just two of us and, as you point out, the interior space is not an issue. In fact, I'm impressed with how much we can pack in. Will be very interested in your findings from freeway driving, in particular how it compares with your M3. Given that acceleration is about 0.5 seconds (approx 10%) slower, I assume some impact albeit that's more about weight than aerodynamics.

Tesla AP has its faults but it is still one of the best driver assist systems out there. You need to put it into perspective sometimes. People expect too much from it in the city. It’s not FSD.

@notinthemanual thank you! You play an important role for me to pick which EV right now. In AP, Does tesla have a very harsh break when it comes close to a stationary vehicle in front? I heard BYD will do harsh break so some people suggest to break manually. I hope tesla is better in this instance.

@@Frank300390 It is mostly smooth but can be a little harsh at times. It has improved a lot with the last couple of updates and that’s the difference, Tesla will continue to get better. I posted an AP video with my Model 3 recently and have an AP video in edit stage right now for the Model Y. I can tell you now the M3 & MY are similar with AP behaviour. It’s not a perfect system but it is slowly getting better.

@@Frank300390 Is suggest watching Bjorn Nyland’s videos on BYD Atto in Norway. He has some good commentary on its behaviour. Not sure he has much on its performance in traffic though.
Why I'm selling my Model 3! Should you buy a used one?
