Reading a book is reading a actual book with your own eyes. Audio books are not books. It is not possible to read 400 books a year period. A single issue comic is not a book either you fan finish one in an hour.

As a white kid in the 90s and 00s, not a lot of diverse books were recommended to me and I wouldn't have known how to look for them. I am glad that the internet is making it easier for kids to get those recommendations and for more diverse books to get published and promoted. I do hope that starts to include older works. There is such an obsession with the new, especially on Booktube.

Yep. I've heard this in the past and it's been brought up in 2 book clubs I attend. I read the Housemaid first, then the Last Mrs. Parrish and was like...oooohhhhh Freida girl. Then I did the Wife Upstairs and Verity comparison and was shook once again. I just read Never Lie and was told by my homegirl to read the Therapist by B.A. Parris to compare. So we will see. Mind you she's really really popular in psych thrillers for now and her fanbase is no joke aka as bad as the Bee Hive. 🤣🤣🤣🤣I think that's why this hasn't been spoken about more.

I’ve seen people (presumably adults) saying that teenager just want it read about sex and stuff, and maybe some of them do, but I don’t know any teens who have ever shown any desire for that, or even who I could picture ever getting in a situation where that would happen. That may be partially because I don’t think I’d be friends with anyone who would want that (not that I have anything against them; I just don’t think we’d have much in common), but I think it’s weird that I’ve seen multiple people saying this is just what teens want. I think that would be really disgusting, and I would never want to read a book where that was described in anything more detailed than ‘and then they had sex’. I’m not sure about splitting YA into two groups. I think it would only be helpful if certain things weren’t allowed in the younger ones. Maybe they should have ratings like movies that say how much romance and violence is in them so it doesn’t have to be a surprise. At least that would make it easier to know which book I don’t want to read. I also think part of the reason the Heartstopper graphic novels are so popular is because the teenagers in them actually act like teenagers. They make dumb jokes and threaten to draw on each other in pen, and (in my experience) that’s what teenager are like.

I’m fifteen, and I don’t really read YA, because I’m scared all the books I find will secretly have romance. Not that I’m against romance as a concept, but a lot of times it’s just girls falling in love with boys who make me think ‘wow, I feel like he’ll be arrested for something in the next few years’. It just makes me concerned for the author’s mental health. Like, why can’t people fall in love with nice people who are definitely not criminals? Why are love interests usually so sketchy? And how come they usually fight so much you can’t actually tell if they like each other of not? Also they keep putting in gross kissing parts. I don’t mind regular kissing, but French kissing is kind of disgusting, so I usually just read kids books. I usually find the twelve-year-olds more reliable anyway, but that may be more of a reflection on me than teenagers as a whole. Also I definitely know other teens who don’t like romance that much either. And I don’t mind reading romance sometimes, but why is it in literally every movie and book for no reason? Also how come romance in a genre and friendship isn’t? I’d read friendship books.

Sorry reading this now and I NEED to rant. I’m so tired of books constantly having any form of abuse in it like it’s inescapable. I read to get away from that sh/T not go INTO it tf. Like In the beginning HOW DARE THE DAD TREAG FHE DOG LIKE THAT. How dare the wife willingly marry someone like that and have KIDS with him bro. Like and Wendy just gets on my nerves Idk 😭

Thanks for the video, for the story. I ordered the last 4 volumes from the publisher in our country (from Ukraine). They released volume 4 in 2018 and stopped 😂 I have to write through a translator. I worked as a cook for a long time, and watched 1.5 seasons of Soma. I was pleasantly surprised by the details with which the dishes are described. I would like to cook something like there. Are there any dishes that are not in the manga?

The little house books are beautiful and recommended reading for all. The only exceptions would be those people who perhaps from self loathing 🤷🏼♂️I don’t know…but perpetuate racism and enjoy being victims. Don’t allow them to ruin wholesome entertainment. Many minority leaders understand that perpetuation of racism is great clickbait and in many instances good $$$$. Don’t read to study for racist hate. Read to love and enjoy. Leave racist influencers to hate on themselves and leave good people in peace.

You are amazing. Our NGO's magazine, The African Literature Magazine, is running a volunteer project in Nigeria and a few other African countries. We provide small financial incentives to school teachers to improve their English skills and recommend various British KZbinrs for listening and pronunciation practice. The results have been phenomenal!

The project I just mentioned is sponsored by a new African author whose debut, Bleeding Stubs (written by Besong), is possibly the best we’ve ever read. Please grab a copy of the paperback and give it a read-it’ll encourage this amazing writer to continue supporting our work. Recommend it to others if you enjoy it!

I don't like to watch the negative content videos because I don't like drama. I don't watch any "reality" TV either for the same reason. So, I'm apparently one of your few viewers who are here to watch your book recs and thoughts about books in general! :) I get the algorithm though, and I feel the pressure to try to do videos that will get more engagement, so I can't hate on the people who make more of the drama videos than "regular" ones.

I read The Housemaid first, really liked it and then I read The Last Mrs Parrish and I was disgusted. Did a bit more digging and this isn't the first time Freida has been accused. See Verity/The Wife Upstairs, My Dark Vanessa/The Teacher, The Gift of the Magi/The Gift (McFadden being the second named book in all these)

Same. I hated The Teacher and quit half way, so I didn't have a chance to do that comparison. But I've also heard the following ones too. Never Lie vs. The Therapist by BA Parris, One By One vs. The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware, The Locked Door vs. a flicker in the dark by Stacy Willingham, and The Ex vs. The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks, Sarah Pekkanen.

I am sloooowly trying to catch up on some BookTube lol. I so agree on authors assuming that they can write any genre and age category! I feel like that happens a LOT with adult writers suddenly going 'oh I can write middle grade, that's so easy' 😑 I was definitely seeing Role Playing around but I wasn't sure if I was going to try it - but the way you talk about the couple and the rep has me interested!

The local library closest to me is between a primary and elementary school ( bunch of kiddos in the area 😊) so the Librarian spends the majority of the budget on childrens and middle grade books and it takes up 2/3 of the library space. I am in a rural area so the library isn’t that big. I love it cause their heart is to make sure the kids have access to books that appeal to them, covers a range of reading levels and provides a variety of genres. There is a program where the students can read a book online, answer some questions get some points and at the end of the year can pick a prize. I don’t mind as the state I live in has interstate loans so I can get the majority of the books I am looking for it just may take a bit of time for it to get here.

I agree with you. I also take pains to make a review out of respect for the author’s effort to create a book so I’m not inclined to attack a book just because I didn’t like it. I review nonfiction so my criteria is high: it has to be well-written, well-researched, and concise; the author must be competent; it should deliver on its promise that it’s useful or informative; and it should be worth the reader’s time and money. If the book is trash, I ignore it and move on. And no, I do not finish a bad book. Just like when I encounter a person with bad vibes, I just walk away….

Beautifully said! I had a similar experience as you when I read them - as a child I ADORED them. I grew up in the 70s - the tv show was popular (I hated the show), and I read them in many of my elementary classes. Zero was ever mentioned about anything even remotely problematic. Then I re-read them as an adult. My jaw hit the floor. The casual racism, the blatant racism, the manifest destiny, the shadow of Ayn Rand-era libertarianism all smacked me dead in the face. I still love my memories of these books and my childhood relationship to them - and I am grateful to have the more complex understanding of them (and the world) that I now have. To me they are an important part of American history - but not in they way they were originally intended. I think these are a great vehicle to introduce and discuss the complexity of our history - both the ugly and the sweet - to younger people, and to adults. An interesting companion book is Prairie Fires by Caroline Frasier. She puts the stories into historical context-the reality of what was going on in Laura's life and the reality of what was going on in America at the time. If you want a more thoughtful approach, I highly recommend it to fans of the original series. Oh - and Pa played the fiddle not the banjo. His fiddle is preserved in a museum somewhere. Ma was the openly racist one toward Indians. Pa was pretty respectful towards Natives....but don't canonize him yet - there's a scene in one of the later books where he does black face in a minstrel show. So.....there's that.

Honestly black authors deserve more love, Their good at always making good stories with their communities. I'm a white author and whenever I write about characters with experiences outside of me, I think of the stuff I know and don't know, Challenge myself by researching because writing characters of different Identity is honestly realluy fun and heartwarming to do but sometimes can cause for stereotypes or tokenising and I hate when that accidently happens to me where theres a black characters but no personality of their own. I don't want to make harm, I want to write about different experiences because its always been my passion to write about different things. I will get things wrong of course so I'm when I edit it, I'll make sure to use some helpful tips, Thanks for the video

I also read them to my 2 now middle-aged children when they were small! I don't see anything problematic about these books! I DID NOT like the TV show at all, never watched the programs! To each his own!

It is so different reading these books as and adult. Some of the things those girls went through would have been a horrific trial for their parents. Like when Ma locks the girls in their room for the night because there are male strangers staying. A very different perspective as a mother than when reading as a child.
