I remember listening to Jack call this one. I don't remember more strain on the heart than this one. Cameron Burns one of my favorite athletes to play for State, right up there with Nat Showalter .

I bugs me that fans of State and uMiss use the derisive term " egg bowl " Tom Patterson came up with that to make fun of the schools' football teams ... when most places' fans were guessing where their team would play that winter, the bulldogs and rebels were obviously staying home ... so the Clarion Ledger mocked them.

Almost forgot I was at that game. Things were looking very good for State football at that time. It was about this time envious SEC schools undertook to run Sherril off . Took them 13 years but they finally did it.

I lived in the panhandle and drove up to see that game with a friend who lived near AU . 1981 should've been State's national championship. How could that have been 42 years ago ?

As much hate there is in the rivalry, I was amazed at how the State players wanted to beat Auburn and Tuberville in 1999. I remember one player saying, 'This is what happens when you disrespect the state of Mississippi".

I liked that offensive formation by MSU. The forerunner of the spread, very cool video.

Dante Jones was head and shoulders above anyone on the court. Could have been a Tracy mcgrady type player in the NBA if not for troubles

My memory is not as good as it once was, as I seem to recollect the TSUN student body continuing that trendy legacy of showering the sporting arena with trash and debris onto the court, as this Maroon Faithful can attest, as those of us within the Maroon Nation are better class of people in making THE choice to NOT behave to level of juvenile & immature type of degenerate, as this was not the last time that type of behavior would be witnessed on a college campus located in Lafayette county of The Hospitality State. 🐮🔔

I was there. Middle of Murderer’s Row. Beat Bama in Jackson, then a miracle win @ Auburn, the LSU game In Jackson, then Ole Miss the next Saturday in Jackson. State played their last 3 games in Jackson that year. The good old days.

Not a fan of either but I was so glad to see them beat UK. Watched them throughout the tournament that year too, was hoping they'd go all the way. They were a very fun team to watch and I thought Jones was going to be a good NBA player.
