I Review a 2024 Ford F250 Super Duty with the 6.7 PowerStroke Diesel Engine. I go over the 6.7 HO powerstroke engine specs and horsepower. I go over the component updates of the High Output 6.7 powerstroke Diesel engine. Lastly I give my opinion as a heavy Diesel Mechanic if this is a good engine or not.

I Finally got to see the HO powerstroke in person for the first time at the local ford dealership and well I wanted to make a video talking about all the differences between the normal 6.7L powerstroke or the SO powerstroke engine and the High output powerstroke engine.
right off the bat there are actually not many differences at all because ford wanted to make sure the production of the powerstroke engine was very streamlined so almost all internal engine updates were also given to the standard ouput powerstroke engine.
the SO engine in 2023 receieved updated cylinderheads, updated pistons, updated fuel pump and updated injectors. Both HO and SO also received later oil sumps with extra 2 quarts of oil and extended oil change interval. lastly and most importantly in my opinion was that ford put a new emission system on the powerstroke engine.
this new emission system comes with a separate fuel doser directly into the DPF or what some people like to call the 9th injector. this means that when these engines regen they will no longer be over fueling the entire engine and possibly diluting the engine oil with fuel which is a very nice upgrade for these engines.
the only real mechanical difference between the HO and SO powerstroke engines is that the High output engine is getting a water cooled compressor housing to help cool boost air and stainless steam exhaust manifolds to help deal with the extra exhaust heat. thats it.
obviously the HO will be getting a much difference tune but in terms of mechanical differences there are no many. I personally think the bigger story is that the SO output got so many updated along side the HO.

That was a very interesting video. I have a new 2024 F-250 Tremor with the HO. I’m probably the wrong buyer for a diesel but had no real good option, long story.. Anyway the changes to the emissions. So far, 1500 miles and 8 hours at idle (4 hours of idle when I purchase new, assuming part of the shipping time and dealership showing the truck). Anyway I’ve used 2 gallons of def so far. Now, I ended up with the Tremor and all the positives and negatives of that trim. The Pros are (1) all the additional off road capabilities. (2) improved steering feel (3) heavier payload (tremor gets 1-ton suspension springs) and for my personal opinion (4) higher stance, 35” tires. Cons: (1) much stiffer and uncomfortable ride unless there is 1000+ lbs in the bed (2) older discontinued Goodyear Duratrac tires which are very harsh on road but to be fair very good in snow and mud. (3) lower gas mileage due to tires, ride height and smaller air balance below front bumper. I’m averaging 15-16 city and 18.5-19 highway at 70 mph. I have been told the standard output F-250 with all season tires, larger balance, shorter stance trucks get about the same in the city but often 20-21 mpg on highway. I’m keeping a record of all of the times I add fuel and fuel additive in a detailed log that covers all maintenance and costs associated with owning this truck. My guess is the F-150 we just sold will have had operating costs about 20% less over the 10 year period we owned. So far, and I’m sure it will change I’ve found Diesel for the same price as regular gasoline here in Ohio. I’m using an app that is knocking off another $20-25 dollars in rebate on every fuel purchase. The app is called Upside if anyone is interested.

Not many if any need the extra torque and HP, just going to burn more diesel with that tune. The SO looks like a very solid engine with a little better solution for exaust treatment. Will definatly consider this truck in 2-3 years when they come on the used market and we can almost afford it. 😂

The cost difference is small when compared to the already large cost of the diesel engine over the gas version. I came out of a 2020 Raptor and bought a 2024 F350 SRW 6.7HO Platnium Tremor. The reason for the change is to tow a 5th Wheel RV that my wife decided we needed. I do absolutely love this truck, it’s fantastic. I wanted something quick since I was giving up the Raptor for this endeavor and it delivers. I will be keeping this truck for a long time.

I just purchase a 2024 f-250 with the 6.7 HO. I actually wanted a gasser but in the King Ranch and higher trims, none were available within a 1100 mile radius. When I found the gassers the dealers prices were sticker price with no discount. There were hundreds of 6.7 and 6.7 HO available and dealers were offer $10,000-$12,000 and a lot more money for my trade in. So when all the bargaining was over I was able to get the F-250 King Ranch Tremor 6.7 Ho for about $5000 less than the F-250 King Ranch 7.3. What scares me is I’ve never owned a diesel and I drive short trips and sit on construction sites. So, I’ve been reading and watching. As much as I can about these 6.7 engines. What scares me is the fuel pump. It seems to be a common recommendation to use as good as fuel as possible and add a fuel additive to increase lubricity. Now I have 1500 miles on the truck two things are happening at my dealership. (1) ford send my truck with a permanently locked hub on the right side, there was no hub defeat or warning from Ford. It’s angering because this causes the right driveshaft, the differential and the transfer case to run at all times. Ford is silent on why they did this for about 12 months but what info I can find is they couldn’t source enough auto/manual hubs so they just put permanently locked hubs on the right side. So I’m hopeful that Ford will replace for free. But if not, my dealership said they would swap out at no profit. I’m having the dealership change the oil early. I don’t believe waiting 15,000 miles on break in oil is a good idea. I’ll run this oil change another 3000 miles and then start my own oil changes. The question I have is, what oil and filter should I consider? I like the idea of the Amsoil bypass filter system but don’t know if the filter truly makes a difference. Would appreciate your thoughts

Purolator boss oil filter. Amsoil or shell for the oil. Watch some oil flow/micron rating videos on Purolator. They are some of the best filters out there. CAT fillers are good too. When you’re out of warranty, consider the SPE engine filter housing. (Allows you to run cat filters)

Greetings Alex. It's amazing what a few changes with big advertising campaigns can achieve. The truth is that the buyer must know strictly what he requires for loading, towing, extreme adventure or any of the other jobs to which a truck is subjected. And why not?; Get advice from experts who have already owned that truck and learn about their experiences. I think that the best choice and purchasing power is personal and not the seller's. Didn’t know that they now have a 9th injector like the duramax’s have that is a nice upgrade. Also I heard that the HO have inkinel exhaust valves instead of steel like the SO or the older ones. I believe they said they have a bigger oil cooler now too. Another separate note is I was told the large oil capacity for diesel is to trap soot as a quart of oil can only trap so much. Eventually that oil will get to temp it will just take longer. And longer to cool down too.

Part of the reason a diesel gets better mileage is the fact the engine can get the work done with less rpm. BMEP is why Cummins says the 6.7 Octane will be better than the competition. I would expect the MPG to be slightly less than the diesel counterpart(less energy dense fuel).

I would love to know the real percentage but in DFW area in TX, a 3/4 ton full on loaded pickup only needs the payload for golf clubs or rifles and a Yeti cooler for more than half of them. There are lots of them traded in 2 and 3 years old and there is not a blemish in the bed and many have the paint untouched in the hitch receiver. Ford, GM and Ram know their market.

I’ve always thought this but my head scratcher was more in line with suspension. The amount of power available way out shines the amount of suspension capacity available. If you’re out doing the gas engine then your out doing the suspension capacity as well FWIW, my 22 f250 is an extended cab 8’ bed 4x4 on 33” rubbers with a 6.2 gas v8 under the hood. It weighs almost an even 7,000lb with me and some tools inside. That leaves me with 3,000lb of available payload. Not too shabby. The only thing I would do different is the gear ratio. It’s got 3.73…. I run mountains with a trailer on the daily, all low speed stuff but steep. I think the 4.30 gears would make a huge difference where I work the truck

Interesting piston design. IMO the HO 6.7 is just not necessary. 150 extra TQ is really nothing but bragging rights. I think it would be safe to say that the F450 pickup with SO 6.7 could haul the 40k load about as well as the HO, if Ford sold a config rated as such. What I find quite dumb is making the HO available on an F250. It's such an unnecessary engine for a 3/4-ton.
@theccwdad
@theccwdad 2 ай бұрын
It's so disappointing that the diesel is not standard. It's a $10k + option for the standard and almost 13k for the HO. New vehicle prices are insane across the board. No new vehicle on the market is worth it's MSRP at this point. If you walk off the lot with your new truck and it's immediately worth half what you paid something is wrong. And the reliability has gone down across the board. A ton of systems making them even more difficult to diagnose and repair. And constantly changing the design and parts. Ford is notorious for offering too many options. They need to keep it simple. That's we all want. Simple and works hard for a long time. That's why this 97 powerstroke will be my last vehicle I ever own. I'm 34 and I will NEVER be buying another new vehicle unless they take 50% off MSRP and offer lifetime power train warranty❤

@TheGettyAdventures - I watched your video about diesel engines/trucks 2012 and newer and how they are very troublesome specially if they are not driven far every day. Would you recommend the purchase of a older diesel model? Like a 2010 F250 with a diesel engine? Do those have the same issue or are they more reliable?

You know what I'm gonna say it. I dont think the 6.7 powerstroke belongs in the F250. I think if you need more power than the 6.2l gas engine option will provide you need a bigger truck to go with your more powerful engine. The gas engine will do everything you would need a F250 to do and if you are regularly towing 15k+ pounds like the F250 with the powerstroke will do you would be much better served with a F350 Dually.

I am not sure a more aggressive cam-lobe on a CP4, pushing output volume and taking the pump further up its performance envelope is a good thing when these pumps are famous for grenading catastrophically already...
@GettysGarage

My thinking exactly, granted ford does seem to have the best luck with these pumps so we'll have to wait and see unfortunately.
@jameszeiger8533
@jameszeiger8533 9 ай бұрын
@@GettysGarage It seems that there is plenty of Super Duty failures of the CP4 on KZbin which ends up costing huge dollars (>$10K) if the system is no longer under Ford Warranty. A company called S&S makes a fuel pump that replaces the CP4 called their DCS pump. Before they released the pump this year, they also made a kit called a “disaster prevention kit” that was basically some screens for the CP4 fuel lines, which detect metal shavings during a pump failure and shut the pump down almost instantly, thus preventing these metal shavings from migrating into the injector lines, injectors and the fuel return to the tank and tank itself. That said, if someone was going to put a disaster prevention kit on a CP4 from S&S, it would be better for the labor $$ to just replace the pump as the labor to get down to the pump from the top of the motor, removing tons of stuff, isn’t going to be that much different than just replacing the pump. Some have expressed that if the CP4 fails under its warranty period, it’s a Ford issue with regard to cost and that replacing the CP4 with an aftermarket S&S DCS that might void the Ford Warranty. However, there is a law down here in the US which places the burden on the vehicle manufacturer to show that the aftermarket parts or modifications were the cause or contributing factor leading to the failure for any warranty related work an owner would be asking for to do under the provisioned factory warranty from Ford. If it was me, I would spend the dollars and have the CP4 replaced with a DCS before warranty or no warranty lapse, either way. It’s expensive as F-bomb and one would want to make sure the job was done perfectly, e.g., the lines, injectors and related things were buttoned up perfectly. It is a really, really stupid thing that Ford continues to use this pump when their competitors moved away from this disaster of a pump because they were getting killed by the CP4 warranty fixes.

"basically identical" I believe is the term I used. I have seen that video - great video, there are very minor differences but I would guess the actual performance out of both is extremely similar. Ford even admitted the turbo sizes are the same for whatever that is worth.

So let somebody else be their test driver and have to pay for it, so just wait and if you know a hot shot driver will know a lot about these new trucks because they put a ton of miles on their and they don’t have any DPF problems because when go the go for at lest 500 miles a day .
