Ranger who constantly talks like he's on camera, but that's just how he talks. Also he has an Australian accent because of course he does. "Crikey, that there's a Green Dragon. Now, these bugger's've got a mean breath, so I've got my new poison resistant armour on, and a cleric to heal me if things go down the gurgler, but I reckon' we'll be in like Flynn if all goes well"

I kind of love the idea of "eccentric survivalist ranger". The party is like "Oh hey, this inn is gonna let us stay for free and give us free rations and drinks!" and the ranger is just like "NO BUT I MADE A TENT OUT A SQUIRREL BONES, COOKED OWLBEAR MEAT, AND BOILED MY OWN URINE! WE DON'T NEED THE INN!"

For my d&d fun with my friends my character is called Brizo, a Cloud Elemental who is a sorcerer. I don't have a physical form apart from a blue orb in the middle of my floating cloud/mist that acts as my eye, if it's destroyed my mist will fade and I won't exactly die, I can be revived by using spell or even just be giving the orb a bunch of magic to reshape the orb, then water to reform my mist.

To me as a player, being able to literally choose the order for every combat sounds suuuper boring. The randomness of a dice roll requires you to re-think every combat-start on the spot. That's what's making it fun for (!)me(!). Also, I strongly believe that players would at some point figure out their "optimal order" and if I push for a change and combat goes badly I would feel terrible and never try it again. It also doesn't allow for "combo turns" because to characters can never have the same initiative. So nah, I really don't like it. :D Also, what's the conceptual difference between having action points and having the action/bonus action/movement economy? Isn't it just the same thing with another name? ^^ Finally, the tactitian feat sounds like an absolute must-pick for at least two characters in the party, which is never a good thing.

The flow of time in the game should be inversely proportional to the danger the PCs are facing. Combat should take longer to play out than the amount of time the characters would be experiencing it in. Gotta slow it down to make sure everything is fair, but also it adds to the dramatic tension. When nothing is at risk (overland travel over safe roads, downtime spent crafting items), days or even weeks for the PCs can go by in the blink of an eye from the players' perspective. That said, there are a lot of games that slow down combat too much. Your idea seems pretty good. I prefer side-based initiative that is rolled round by round (BX/BECMI D&D style), but for a game where every player rolls individual initiative, setting the order this way is the way to go to speed things up.

Isn't the opposite of a druid an ambassador of entropy? They would work alongside concepts and turn them into diseases, poisons, and true ice that stops even light. If a druid is based on nature, its opposite should be based on the end of the universe.

SIMULTANEOUS COMBAT o Has two phases. o Phase 1 is the declaration phase. Go around the table and have the players declare their actions. Once an action has been declared, it can't be changed. o Phase 2 is the resolution phase. All dice are rolled and all actions are resolved in one fluid narration. o For structure, actions are resolved in this order: Movement, Missiles, Magic, then Melee. o Roll for reactions and surprise before combat. Roll for morale when appropriate. o No initiative roll.

🥳🫂👍🏿 Love games that do away with opportunity attacks - Sounds like a take on popcorn initiative but making it mostly persistent - I haven’t liked popcorn initiative in the past, but using cards like in Dragonbane sounds like a great way to reduce confusion, and it opens up a new design space for mechanics like switching cards - very cool

I had a great game DM'd by a friend and he had us all write down 3 words on 3 slips the draw them in turn order. I got "Agile", "Durable", and "lol dead" (everyone has their own interpretation of DnD when they first start). After we showed our picks, DM asked how the character manifested and we gave more/less help depending on game knowledge. My "lol dead" characteristic made it so all damaging spells by enemies would home in on me and healing would be directed towards allies. So I basically played healer Druid of the Moon Fire Elemental but reversed, self healing while bonded to an ally to heal them, circle of moon for the easier wild shape accessibility, and then natural armor (due to unarmed barb/monk stacking from a prior game that had to be nerfed this was allowed because adding 2 to an AC of a non elemental giant scorpion is nothing compared to a level 6/7 Monk/Barb getting unarmed and unarmored benefits making them gods the second they gave up all their possessions Fun game, fun campaign, try out weird ones like this where essentially it was a 3v2v(Had a Child so More important things), but without anyone knowing who is planning what
