Yes. Correct. While poop is mostly bacteria, undigested fiber and other compounds either excreted by the liver or unabsorbed in the intestines. Urine is 7-10x more rich in nitrogen and other key minerals.

What do you keep your EC at with organic hydro?
@bioponics
@bioponics Ай бұрын
Same as inorganic. Depends on plants. Anything more than 2.0 will dehydrate the plant. What makes this easier than chemical fertilizer is that organic minerals derived from plant biomass mimics needs of plants uptake. By avoiding mineral salts there is less chance of buildup of chloride and minerals. Water almost never has to be exchanged, unless of course, tap water is used, which can be high in chloride and alkalinity.

im assuming that the aerobic bacteria survive the anaerobic ferment and many of the anaerobic bacteria are removed in the vortex?
@bioponics
@bioponics Ай бұрын
Yes that's true. Some aerobes form spores that survive anaerobic environment and recolonize after exposure to oxygen. Some are facultative, allowing them to grow in either environment. Others die off. Same happens to anaerobic in the presence of oxygen.

I eat it daily, two different varieties, and dip fresh, raw Duck weed, I dip it in to 130 degree water for, only, 20 seconds to kill germs, but not kill the rae enzymes, and B 12 energy vitamins too, eat three tablespoons twice daily, excellent. Sex. !

I've been growing mushrooms for a long time, and one process I have used in the past is soaking straw for 10 days in an air tight bucket until the anaerobic bacteria is plenty and all the aerobic bacteria dies off, then I bring it out and drain it, and the anaerobic bacteria dies, which makes it "sterile". I then innoculate it with mushroom spawn, which will always grow faster in the mycelium form than mold can grow in spore form. It only works on strains that are vigorous and can colonize the substrate fast, but it does work well, and is essentially the process you're doing in the first 10 days.

Maybe I'm missing something. Why not just add earthworms to the beds? Save electricity, save all the work of making and maintaining... I feel fairly certain earthworms make it to the beds anyway.
@bioponics
@bioponics 4 ай бұрын
they don't work fast enough, plus you'll end up with too many worms and excrement. high worms occurred because there was too much organics added to the beds. Better to keep a balance in aggregate beds.

Fish are a feature, but not reliable. They also prefer alkaline, plants prefer acidic. Optimizing both simultaneously is a challenge, not to mention issues with water temp, power outage, travel off site for several days. Too many ways to kill fish if not dedicated to aquaculture.

The big question is how to reduce the amount of plastic in these operations?
@bioponics
@bioponics 4 ай бұрын
Build it once. PVC is the problem. Ever seen a PVC greenhouse after it has been exposed to sun over time? Decomposes into a toxic mess. HDPE does not decompose, contains black carbon, may be reused over and over.

Thanks for this and can this be done to bone meal
@bioponics
@bioponics 11 ай бұрын
Yes it can. Bone meal is very alkaline though. So don't add too much or you won't get the low pH necessary to activate acid loving anaerobes that help break down the complex molecules.
@woolybully8230
@woolybully8230 9 ай бұрын
Absolutely! Though you will need a strong acid loving anaerobic environment to ferment; the pH needs to get as low as 4.5. So just keep the ratios balanced. A benefit here is that acid form of phosphorus is most soluble and in good form to feed phosphorus loving microbes in the rhizosphere.

Either your seeds are too thick or there was not enough aeration between water cycles. After grass matures, it should be clipped and refridgerated.

I need to say this. Man you are doing absolutely a great job! Yours is the best channel where I could see lot of innovation on gardening. The great thing is you do it in natural way without using chemicals. Simply your work is amazing. I have not seen anyone going this far for natural gardening. If possible, see the work of famous Japanese natural farmer Masanobu Fukavoka. He showed a great way to world to do natural farming without fertilizers and tilling the ground. May be you can improve your work based his methods.

Thanks for your comment. This proves we are misled to believe manufactured fertilizers are needed in water based systems. Very easy to make liquid fertilizer that match plants needs, then to remove carbon if in non aggregate deep water or NFT system.

how often do you add the organic nutrients ??
@bioponics
@bioponics 4 ай бұрын
Depends on the size of the system, number of plants, volume of water. I watch the plants growth rate and watch the quality of the water. If it gets too clear and plants are not throwing new growth add more. If water foams excessively, slow down. Too much organics means not enough time to let plant roots and aggregate decompose carbon.
