The Layering Method for studying effectively consists of three detailed steps: ### Layer One: Foundational Understanding 1. **Skimming and Overview**: Begin by skimming through the relevant chapter or resource to get a general idea of the topic. This involves looking up any unknown keywords and watching introductory videos to understand how bigger concepts are interconnected. This initial skimming lays the groundwork for deeper learning later. . 2. **Mind Mapping**: Create a mind map to visually organize these foundational concepts. This structure helps visualize the connections among various topics, making it easier to recall information later. The mind map should clearly illustrate the flow of information, linking the main ideas together. . ### Layer Two: General Concepts and Recall Questions 1. **Understanding Key Concepts**: Once you have a foundational understanding, start focusing on the general concepts of the topic. Read through secondary resources, adapting the information to grasp how these conditions work without delving into complexities yet. . 2. **Creating Recall Questions**: As you study, formulate simple recall questions that summarize the key points. This step enhances retention by forcing you to articulate what you’ve learned. Aim to write 2-3 questions per section of the material, focusing on the most important information. . ### Layer Three: Complex Details and Continuous Revision 1. **Deep Dive into Complex Information**: After grasping the broad concepts, revisit the complex details that were challenging initially. At this stage, it’s crucial to engage with the more intricate guidelines and specifics of the topic. . 2. **Active Recall and Testing**: Begin your revision by answering the recall questions out loud or in writing. This active recall is essential for solidifying your memory. After attempting the questions, review your answers against the resources to identify gaps in understanding. . 3. **Color-Coding and Ongoing Improvement**: As you continue this cycle of revision, color-code your questions based on their difficulty. Focus on the red-coded questions (the most difficult) in subsequent sessions, continually refining and improving your question set based on what you find most challenging during reviews. . Each layer builds on the previous one, ensuring that by the time you tackle complex information, you have a robust understanding of the foundational concepts and a structured method for revision, making sophisticated topics much more manageable. .

The last piece of advice is so true that I wish I had known it at the time. Coming home hungry, tired, and asking your brain for that extra mile sounds terrible, but that extra mile every day is many kilometers away from your classmates at the end of the school year.

The steps are the exact same, represent the concept or theory behind the laws visually and show the flow of the legal process. Will help you understand the big picture much faster. Visual drawing can represent many many details.

Appreciate the vid! Im finding Edraw mind map software very effective for chunking and layering topics. However it’s taking me hella long to create the mind map. Any advice on how to speed up on that part?
@zain_asif
@zain_asif 23 күн бұрын
Glad the software works well! For drawing the mindmap out, it does take a few practises with diff topics to get fast at it. But keep doing them, with a clear central idea, lots of visuals coming off it, good flow, minimal words. The more you think about how the info looks like on the mindmap, the better and faster you'll understand compared to normal reading!
