Nice vid vinny appreciate your content, however do allow me to share some more insights as a watch fan since 2017 NOT an expert which differ a bit from your conclusions. Bear with me please. In my view, the current values of the cartier santos from the 90s have nothing to do with square watches, and even less with that ugly and ridiculous patek cubitus. This coming from me as owner of an original cartier santos 2 tone which I gifted myself brand new in 1997 for my 37th birthday and now have passed on to my daughter. At the time I paid US$2800 which was almost the same price as a Rolex Submariner. Nothing puts a smile on my face better than knowing that I did make a good decision on the santos according to current values but these don't compare to the values on the submariners of the same years. At the time I knew nothing about watches, I was a young up and coming oil company employee and I wanted a more luxurious and dressy piece that I could afford. I liked the fashion and prestige of Cartier at the time and the santos was an aspiring choice. This purpose and need drove my decision rather than market knowledge, as I feel would be the same case for many people nowadays otherwise I'd be wearing the submariner today and enjoying it too... no more business meetings. Please do bear in mind that I have a 7 inch wrist and never perceived the santos as a small watch, Actually I liked the size as I would wear long sleeve shirts and jackets due to my line of work. This I believe is the heavier decision driver for most people then and now... what you need for your life style and what you can afford that reflect your status! Today is the larger and sportier watches which dominate the market and trends but who knows what's next! I believe the real reason the santos went up in price is because there are so few available now not because of their popularity. I have become a watch fan now and have seen watch prices increase since 2017 in unexpected ways, particularly driven by the growth of the secondary and grey market so I have been particularly interested in following up my collection. I also believe (call me a conspiracy theorist) that someone purposely snatched most of the used cartier santos from the 90´s (which are the ones to have in my view) in the last 3 years. This led me to conclude that some VP in that company we all know had something to do with it as their new and much larger and sterile santos revival collection was dragging in the market... thanks for getting this far.

Hi thanks for sharing your story and that is fascinating to read. I think it’s too early to read into any of the market sales data as being symptomatic of the Cubitus release however I am certainly seeing demand/consumer interest in the Santos spiking somewhat and yes as you say that’s partly due to the scarcity of the older and cheaper versions but also it’s brand cache and versatility for casual and business like you mentioned…not sure about your conspiracy theory though 😂

Good points Vinny. The issue with these doom merchants is that they provide no context. You said it within a minute. It was a bubble. A once in a generation set of circumstances that make people desire watches at a time when supply was short and people had money but nothing to spend on because of Covid. The market is getting back to normal and that is just fine. But of course these KZbinrs need their clicks and need to say the whole market is in the gutter. If that is the case, where is my below retail 6 digit GMT, Sub or even DJ?

What happened to the Rolex sky dweller with a jubilee bracelet, two tone? She has a lot of character, just like the gmt2 rootbeer except she has a oyster bracelet. I am always asked if I wish to sell these at a AD. Of course I always decline the offerings, as they are hard to find if I wish to replace them, go figure. 😂😂😂❤❤❤❤🎉

Great stuff Vinny. A demonstration if one were needed that the investment side of this game is a bit of a lottery. I have an embarrassingly large collection, with some hits with both lower and higher priced watches. Funnily enough I own the two Rolex Datejusts you mention, the exact model in 36 with blue dial, and with white Romans in the 41. I got them both at retail and I did ask for them both from my AD. Smart investor eh?? No...... I just liked them. A lesson for us all maybe.😊 I think you are right about square/rectangular watches and though both Cartier and Reversos have become more expensive they were a relatively easy pick up not so long ago.

I think the pricing/appreciation on the Vacheron is a bit off. Just did some research and when it released it was priced around $20k USD and yes trading around $25k USD now on the secondary market, or at about retail. Also surprised the Panda Daytona isn't on the list as you can find it trading 2x retail on the secondary market, or a touch under.
