Thank you for the demonstations. I am modelling robots and mech and I am always wondering what kind of joint will work with IK rigging I have created the 3 axis joint for the hip. one Joint I am trying to figur out is the Joints you see on the hips of the Pacific Rim Jeagers.

Thanks! Ya, the jaegars are god mode for robot rigging, afraid I don't have any info on the type of hip joint they use, I know many ILM folk but sadly none of the people who modeled or rigged the Jaegars. But I suspect it's some variation of 3 degrees of freedom probably with 3 different mechanisms, one for each degree.

I just discover you and all your amazing resources, thank you thank you, thank you!! All is amazing! I was wondering do you by chance got a tutorial / video / or resource about how to experiment with shape language, and once we choose a main shape for our design, (Im character Artist) lets say an armor using romboids ( angular shapes) what is the best way to introduce or use another shapes without "betraying" your visual language, making all live harmoniously together? I saw your videos about Big Medium Small and now about composition but the experimentation with shapes is something that always keep me wondering, thanks again!

@@ArtOfSoulburn I have been tinkering with Blender for years, but it was only once I set aside 3DS Max completely and spent the time to learn the fundamentals of Blender that I finally turned the corner on learning it to a level of proficiency. While I’m not a professional photographer, and so don’t know all the nuances of the lingo, I believe they are similar. Although I believe a subject is a larger thing, like “a person” or “a cat” whereas the focal point can be a smaller detail like “the persons expression” or “the cat’s tag”.

Thank you, Neil! Miss those CGtalk times. You still are very helpful! When I started 3d journey, it seemed there was a scarcity of information about this kind of thing, or maybe I wasn't ready to grasp it in 2002? I don't know Silhouettes and main forms are 80% of success. I wish I started earlier with those I find it very difficult experimenting in 3d with sketching, as even after 20 years of modeling, tools still dictate the nature of shapes. It's good for 3-dimensional evaluation and perspective, though So I return to drawing, as 3d is merely a good tool, but it won't reveal much by itself. Good for lighting experimenting
@ArtOfSoulburn
@ArtOfSoulburn Ай бұрын
Thanks Michael! A lot of these subjects were more vague to me in 2002 as well, it's taken me awhile to figure out or learn a lot of this stuff :) As for using 3d sketches, agreed that it can be dangerous because your sketches might start looking too much like shapes the computer is good at. In that case, I might try doing the 3d sketches but then doing renders, quickly painting over top of that to remove those offending shapes, then maybe revise the 3d to match your painted sketch. Basically going back and forth, using each for what its best at. But otherwise 3d sketches aren't necessary, they're just another tool you can use.

@@ArtOfSoulburn I think there were some good schools back then, that maybe taught well (Gnomon School, Feng Zhu), but expensive ones and not widely available Nowadays there's an overabundance of artists and references, so though competition is fiercer, so is the artistic expression is at its pinnacle. I think today generally is a better time for a developing artist. But you were a top notch artist even back then, so only getting stronger I found zspheres to be particularly useful for experimenting with 3d creatures and robots, as this tool allows for unexpected and fast results in terms of limbs placement Zbrush is perhaps the best when it comes to form experimenting, though I also enjoy Plasticity, which is a very robust and artist-friendly NURBS modeler, and is quite fast and simple

A question regarding the overlap tip, given that shapes are the same value wouldn't overlapping them result in one complex shape rather than a group of shapes? Also saying that individual elements shouldn't be separate but be a "whole" kind of eliminates small shapes unless you incorporate different values to make the smaller shapes within the clump stand out
@ArtOfSoulburn
@ArtOfSoulburn 2 ай бұрын
Hey there! Yes, so in general one wouldn't use just a single grouping rule, they'd use multiple in collaboration with each other. So in that case, you'd likely also want to incorporate something like value variation or shape variation to order to make sure that the elements stand out from each other a little, but still form an overlapping clump. Good note, thanks for mentioning it!

Probably just consider it not copyrighted is to easy and normally there must be kind of procedure to determine uniquty, which could be performed by experts or some certificied expertic ai. Also as far as we know we could change a parts of ai generated images or use it as a new prompt, should it be copyrighted then?

It's certainly not a cut and dry topic. These videos I posted are somewhat old at this point, and a lot has changed in the last few years. For example, all those "tools" to help artists didn't really materialize, wheras pushing the tech to fully replace people has continued to move forward. More details about how the current datasets have exploited artists have become clearer. And most recently the fact that using AI is reversing climate change mitigation has got me angry. I'll do a more up-to-date video on the topic some time, but right now my view is that while GenAI could still be used at some point in the future ethically, what we have right now is a huge mess and I've decided to avoid it. Such a shame, I just don't think humans are ready yet for this sort of technology, people just can't use it ethically. We need to work on ourselves first as a society :)
