Interesting concept but that price tag makes it a hard pass.

Cool but I don’t think when people ask “what’s the rarest book” that they mean what books are lost history, that would be its own question wouldn’t it? Clickbait

I thought he was going to say the rarest books in the world are technically the ones never published just sitting around in people’s houses. Both of these will keep me up at night

What would be the approximate cost of the books? Why break the seal unless he will keep it for his own library.

These are absolutely beautiful. 😍 But does doing this decrease these first editions' value? Regardless, these are a work of art. ❤

What's everybody's favourite Simpy Red song ? Gran & I like the song Picture Book from the Picture Book album. It has special memories for me especially of someone who is no longer with us.

When other chaps get a time machine they use it for financoal gain, when Tom here gets one he'll use it to get a copy of the Silmarillion signed by JRR Tolkien.

Great job, Tom! You did fantastic!! I've experienced a similar live Zoom interview (during Covid, played live worldwide on KZbin) with a famous educator (Sal Khan of Khan Academy....2 days later he interviewed Bill Gates--this was during the height of Covid), and giving a live interview on Zoom has its own unique challenges, for sure, in comparison to a staged, edited interview for television or for a documentary (I've done all three now). Your bibliophile passion magnificently shone through, and that's really all the interviewers and audience wanted to see, and catch, from you! Bravo!

Tolkien's early poem, The Little House of Lost Play (both versions), is extremely significant in the history of Middle Earth's creation, and I believe it is the connection between the subconsciously-traumatized orphan Tolkien and his yearning for his pre-orphan childhood through his land of escapism, Middle Earth.

This entire video is incorrect. 20 dollars for a book was fine in 1996 and they did the preview edition to get people interested and had nothing to do with price. The book was projected to sell 50,000 copies (not the "hug success" claimed in the video) so they needed to do everything possible to try and build a fanbase.

I'm currently reading the letters (I work in a second-hand bookshop, and I found a copy there for £2) and they are beautiful. Once I've finished, I'm lending it to my Dad to read. It's really helped me feel more Christmassy after some recent stress. Any Tolkien fan needs this in their collection!

Ye but one lost book could have been made by a random cheese ball and the other coulda been made by a random king, wouldn't one be rarer than the other?
