Coming from a daughter of hoarder parents, it makes it a lot easier to let go when you see all like items together. Grouping like items together for him will be less overwhelming. You’re doing such a wonderful job. Go dad 👏👏👏

Yeah - back to the garage, I like this series. Even if it's a small sort, it's still progress, moving in the right direction. Glad your dad is starting to get more involved and wants shelves.

Exactly! Me too, I think he's finally starting to envision what it can look like ❤

@@Simply.Mariela - suggestion - I would do a rough sort 1st. Instead of making a decision on each item, just sort all "like" things together. Empty boxes labeled; auto parts, tools, yard/garden, holiday, etc; once the pile is rough sorted, then can go through each category and decide keep, donate or yard sale. During the 1st rough sort, you'd be eliminating trash as well, so it would get control over the pile and not seem so much.

I am so happy that you started this project. This is the hardest kind of declutter for me. It’s overwhelming.

Me too! It really is. I'm hoping we can make some real transformation here 😊

I'm so glad you weren't alone to start this very difficult section of the garage. It's great that your dad saw the value in what you're doing because you found some things that he couldn't.

Hey Mariela! So exciting to see a garage declutter again! Yea! I am so happy the new shelf with the drinks is working. 😊 You and your brother worked so well together. Little by little you guys are making progress and that is so exciting! I love how your dad was able to declutter some items too and how he eventually wants a shelf in the back area. Great job everyone! ❤❤❤

So nice your brother was able to help. Because it's "now or later" for helping parents get their homes decluttered and it's nice if you can have the bonus of being able to see them enjoy their more functional spaces. ❤

The trash bag doesn’t seem like a lot but it’s a massive start. If you look at from the aspect of each session resulting in a least one bag of trash. If there ends up being 20 sessions, that’s 20 bags of trash- a dumpster full! I’m excited to see the journey continue 😊

That was massive progress Mariela! I always start with rubbish and easy donations something I learned from Dana K White and it gives you easy wins. It's less chaotic in that section now and you have boxes/collections to add to. Loved this video being real-time too because it gives great examples of tackling those random boxes and making progress. ❤

Glad to see that the decluttering is continuing on! Also glad to see that your brother helped as well. My dad has so many tools and items in our garage too. Some are foreign to me but mostly he has so many gardening tools since he’s a gardener. Thanks for sharing the progress! I totally understand about being nostalgic when going through items.

Ah-h-h, the video that I have been waiting for (besides the yard sale). Not that I haven''t enjoyed your other videos, but I expected that a garage de-clutter video would be so much fun and satisfying to watch and I was right! Your brother is so sweet (and cute). I was nice to see you find childhood memories in the pile. This is going to be a great series. I cannot wait for more. Props to Dad to getting with the project.

I've never commented on your videos before but the excitement I felt when I saw the title of this one made me break out of my "silent viewer"- shell 😅 I always enjoy your videos and this series especially as I'm going through a similar journey with my parents. It's just so motivating to see you tackle such an overwhelming area! Thank you so much for letting us be a part of your journey, you're such a dedicated, amazing person! Grouping like items together is the first pass, weeding out obvious trash and maybe first things they are willing to let go of. „They“ inkluding my father, he is taking out the laces before he gets rid of old shoes, just in case.. so I feel you. Get your dad enthusiastic for organizing, make him buy see through boxes (as obviously he is a visual organizer and has to see his stuff to not forget its existence) for cables and tools and electronics and bolts and nails and parts of plastic and parts of metal and.. whatever his treasures are 😉 When you can collect the similars it will be so easy for him to choose his favorites, and if it’s still too much you can get him with „only what fits in this box“ and so on. I’ve been through this. It is tiring and you want to scream sometimes. Most likely there will never be a thanks, but your heart will jump wacht time he’ll say sth like „I fetched that from the garage and found it in no time!“ 🙂
@keelienne6 ай бұрын
Oh, but: please make him spend the money on all the boxes and shelves and so on. They have some spare money, as you see in the still unused pots and pans.. and when they can find what they have and not rebuy it, they’ll save way more than the need to invest first. You’ve got this!
