John: reading your book, The time savers workout, a question came up: in your previous book, Beginning Bodybuilding: Real Muscle, you had presented the method of how to Calculate Your Specific Individual Repetitions (I.S.R.). So the question arises that in the book The time savers workout you did not explicitly relate the I.S.R to the protocols presented, but there is, on page 137 onwards, your recommendation to increase the weight load by 10% in the first and second series, totaling 20%. This 20% value is the value that must be reduced to the maximum weight load for a single repetition that will be used as a reference for calculating the I.S.R. So, I would like you to draw up a parallel comparison between I.SR and the method described on page 137 of the book The time savers workout.

I worked at a Nautilus facility in the late 70's and early 80's when Nautilus first came out.......THIS machine will give you THE best lat workout ever!!! This exercise demonstration shows proper form....(trainee could use a little better stretch at the top of the movement= prestretch) Nice and slow and push with the elbows ALL the way down; until the bar touches the midsection. When you have completed the set - your lats will feel so big that you can hang glide!!

Impecably described! Thanks so much! I¨m doing research on my own,since I don´t get much jhelp around. I live in JUnin.Buenos Aires. Argentina. I´m Cris, 70 years old, trying to reverse a sarcopenia process that took me by surprise about a year or so ago!I´m been going to gym training for about a year and a half now, but I´m not pleased with the results so far, eventhough there has been some reversal.... Right now Im about to incorporate HI interval exercises! I´m doing research about that.If you are willing to share reliable source, I will fully appreciate it!!! Congratulations for your precious5 minute gift!

Such great information. So would alternating between one low load and one heavy load workout a week be a good middle ground? One with a TUL goal of 90 seconds and another with a TUL goal of 70 seconds?

I have a bad shoulder which will require replacement. I am using the Life Fitness pulldown, row, overhead press and chest press machines. The shoulder gives out before the major muscle groups do. Would there be alternative exercises I could do that would help circumvent this issue?

Best machine ever: Feels like moving through heavy air.
@noko594 ай бұрын
I am not looking at the doer but the trainer fitness. Nothing spectacular there, anyways I do this but older version where you do a smooth transition at end of travel vice any kind of squeeze hold. Somewhat faster 5-8 sec pace but a superset, failure at one weight, reduce weight as fast and safe as possible then failure at the lower weight, immediately move to next machine. Just at a Planet Fitness center. I feel like I do more in 30 min than most folks there do in a week, as in they are doing short bursts and then remaining on the machine with their stupid phones. Which is fine, if it works for them. Anyways I am 64, fit and muscular. Also run around 20 miles a week. The shaking part, utterly unable to lift another time, for me 90 seconds+ on the constant muscular tension is very familiar.

From what I see, it’s no different than the traditional 3 sets of 8 - 10 recommended by trainers…only without the messing around on your phone for 10 minutes between each set like I see the kids at my gym doing….
@dennisnielsen5809Ай бұрын
The difference is that this is more intense and demanding. Those who makes 3 sets Are not training nearly as hard. They Are not able to do this and if you do it like this you cant do another set with prober form.

High responders will respond to anything. Low responders might have more modest end results. Multiple sets of course CAN work and for arguments sake let's just say multiple sets are "optimal." In the long run, you will meet your genetic limit sooner or later. Consider the ROI. If I can reach my genetic potential within 5+ years using either method, "optimal" is irrelevant and with a fraction of the time investment overall.

I have a home Nautilus machine from the early 80's. Is as good today as when I first bought it. I am now 73 years old. It is a very important piece of equipment to help me keep going. Easy circuit training. Even back then it cost $5500.00 to bring to home and set up. In the long run was well worth it.
