I use a utility called AGI-MIDI. It allows AGI games to play music via a MIDI synth. I highly recommend it.

I remember the first time I did that. I had no idea it was something you could do, I set the fire by accident; and got surprised by what happened. And then the conversation with Igor outside :)

It's a bit disturbing to see adult language in Sierra games, as they were mostly made for kids or teenagers at the most. And even the more mature ones generally had simple, flat-colored, cartoon-like graphics. And they even referenced games meant for younger audiences sometimes. Like "seeing visions of Daventry" in that first one, a fairy tale kingdom.

Johnny Castaway. It's not a game per se, but a screensaver, back from when computers needed screensavers. It had a fun little story it would tell over a bunch of random events that would play when the computer was idle.

The character portrait art in QFG4 was top-tier. Not just the detail but also the effort put into the stylized look of each character. It's underrated and not mentioned enough. So many modern games still need that kind of personal touch.

That's why I liked text parser games. You could try anything. Sure, it may not work but at least you could try!
@LordSenile13 күн бұрын
"Fuck" is not a swearword though, it's just an obscene word, or expletive, and in a parser it can be misunderstood as a verb, so not really the best choice to test it out.

Man, I'm glad they fixed that whole "Disk 22" issue when they re-released it on CD-ROM. It should've been sold like that in the first place! Heck, maybe if Sierra had put _Leisure Suit Larry 4_ on CD, they wouldn't have ended up with all those floppies going missing. … 😏

i mean neat, but what kind of shenanigans is this? KQ4 was on the SCI engine where the pharser interface paused the game and was in the lower-mid portion of the screen, but this is in the AGI engine, similar to KQ1-3. Is this a mod or maybe on the Amiga, which I'm unfamiliar with?
@sierraart425218 күн бұрын
Sierra developed two versions of Kings Quest 4. An AGI version and a SCI version. The SCI engine was new at this stage and not all systems could run the SCI version. I have added some sound to the video. In terms of sound, the Apple IIGS had improved sound over the PC AGI version. This easter egg is only available in the AGI version of the game.

@sierraart425218 күн бұрын
It is an exit but it just beams you out of the current room. There are no other rooms to explore.

Who would think to do that?!
@sierraart425219 күн бұрын
Yeah, no chance to know this when playing the game back in the day unless you worked on it! The hardest part of recording this video was trying to show the ships, hamburger and computer in the background. They used a random statement in the code so you would often get the same ship multiple times and I didn't want the video to go on for too long!
