Had a popping on my Craftsman twin. Changed plugs. Changed coils. My son said , Dad it's the carb main jet, it's running too lean ! Cleaned the carb. He was right!

Nice job catching that tiny arc and I'm glad you had the pic of the TRUE hours from the previous repair. 🤣👍
@IndRepairАй бұрын
Haha thank you! I sure am glad to have had it too. This was something completely different but if it turned out to be a similar repair we may have seen some issues. Thanks for watching!

I think you're correct in that the customer was hoping that you would cover the cost on this one. Glad to see you doing your homework.

I remember when we built these AT the Snapper Mower Manufacturing plant in McDonough Ga. till B&S stripped it & closed the doors, real shame what B&S did to Snapper and MANY companies they bought & stripped the assets

Interesting!

Seems that they definitely went downhill in the last 10 years but still better quality than the others out there

Good one, Martin! I’m thinking it almost might be worth running an engine and turning the shop lights off to spot electrical leaks like this sometimes! I’ve seen it done for vehicles to locate specific plug wires that are arcing.
@IndRepairАй бұрын
Definitely! They use a small shot of starting fluid on each cylinder if you hear the tic on engine and can't find it too. Works well just look for the woosh lol

@@IndRepair Uh oh! Think I’ll pass on that test! 😂

Good eye for sure, seems to be best to change both boots 😊 Very good job 😊
@IndRepairАй бұрын
Definitely best practice but it looked like the other one was already replaced at some point because it was in perfect shape. Maybe this cylinder has been getting hotter causing the cracking and almost melting look to it. Thank you!

Excellent diagnosing looks like you hit the nail right on the head. I love watching your shows because it seems you go right to the problem. I guess you worked on them a long time the good work out thank you for your service.

Great catch. Goes to show, don’t just ripping into it. Check the small stuff first.

Definitely start with the small stuff!

Vanguard engine is a good one, my Simplicity zero turn has the 23 hp engine on it. Never had a single problem with it. It's a 2007 model. Adjusted the valves twice, and 1 set of plugs. Mine did have a tiny seep on the breather cover also, should have replaced the o ring, but i used a very thin film of permatex black rtv on it, and that fixed it, should the problem arise again, I'll replace the oring.
@IndRepairАй бұрын
Permatex would have worked fine of course but always do it as stock as possible. I have a Vangard on my Simplicity and love it over 700 hours no major issues

This mower reminds me of an old TIMEX TV commercial. "TIMEX watches take a licking and keep on ticking."
@IndRepairАй бұрын
Haha, they are not without their issues but definitely run forever if you keep oil in them!
@robertsevertАй бұрын
Of course it was fine when you worked on it last year, you are a master Ha Ha
@IndRepairАй бұрын
Haha thanks for that we do the best work we can and try to relay all info to the customer which matters a lot
@philliphall5198Ай бұрын
Could a weak damaged plug also cause this where it not getting a good grounding 😮
@IndRepairАй бұрын
For sure! A cracked plug can sometimes cause the same issue where it will jump back to ground somewhere other than the outside edge

What was that thing you took about that needs the o-ring
@IndRepairАй бұрын
It is a crankcase breather
@rickbroerman9267Ай бұрын
I've never noticed one like that before. What engines have the O-ring like that.
