Christina Crawford's interviews clearly show a very jealous daughter who wanted the fame her mother enjoyed and deserved. No matter what exaggerations and lies Christina Crawford repeats about her mother, Joan Crawford will always be remembered as a gracious, lovely lady who was a great and unforgettable actress.

Couldn't help but think of the film Mildred Pierce as I watched this. Successful people in the public eye often times pay a very high price for their good fortune that usually was earned through grit and hard work. Glad Ms. Crawford was already in God's care when that book was published.

Christina is a failed actress. And that book of hers is very one sided isn't it..

Christina wanted the spoiled life of luxury and Joan tried to show her one needs to work hard for it and to keep it. There are few actresses and people that worked as hard as Joan Crawford.

I think Joan was probably a lot of things. Terrific actress, hard-working, vain, and most of all, *tough* in an industry that would just chew people up and spit them out - especially women. I really admire that about her. I feel sad that these allegations were made when she wasn't able to defend herself. I can't say whether they're true or not - but I'm not without scepticism since the author did seem to have an axe to grind. Whatever the case, I love her films and her work will live on long after Christina is forgotten.

Christina is a proven liar and the lies she repeatedly told about her sisters are shameful and an indication of her ability to cause pain and suffering to those who won't succumb to her will.

I've only recently watched the movie, and I've never read the book, but I have to say the ending of the movie did make me suspicious of the whole story. Ok, you're out of the will? So now you're going to say all this when the abuser isn't around to defend themselves? Didn't sit right with me. By the end of the movie, it was Christina who seemed bitter and jaded to me

During WWII, Joan had to give up her servants so they could work in factories, enlist, etc. So she taught the kids to clean up after themselves and wash dishes. I suspect Christina really resented that and blew it out of proportion, as she did everything else. Other people did say Joan could be harsh, but they also said Christina was utterly antisocial.

@@goldduxt Joan has become this blank slate for everybody who has suffered from abuse to attach their own pain to. She's the wicked step-mother for a generation of people who refuse to deal with their own trouble. They need her to be this evil figure. It's a horrible way for this wonderful lady to be remembered, but finally, the narcissistic and self serving lies of Daughter Dearest are unravelling and hopefully she'll receive the honours that a legend deserves.

The lie about her sisters that they aren't real twins alone prove that Christina is a liar

There were actors who questioned Joan’s questionable methods of child rearing. Kirk Douglas spoke about it.

and there were plenty of actors that defended Joan - Myrna Loy, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Marlene Dietrich, Ann Blyth, Dorothy Barrett, Joan Evans, if we’re going to cherry-pick actors. Non actors who defended Joan include her granddaughter Janet, her other grandchildren, Betty Barker (secretary), Billie Green (alleged maid who saw Christina get choked, though she DENIES that happened), and more.
