Had an almost identical one in the mid/late '70s, it was probably about 3 years old at the time. In white with exactly the same wing mirrors from memory but it didn't have any Rapier mods.

Is that from when they were originally cast? If so pretty bad on Rootes, I would have thought that an upmarket marque like that would have cleaned out the casting properly. 🤔
@paulmarshall92394 ай бұрын
i expect a lot of it is original sand, some dirt build up over the years, this is one of the worst i have done
@Lifeistooshort674 ай бұрын
Why didn't you push the pistons out the bottom of the bore, especially those close to the bottom?
@paulmarshall92394 ай бұрын
You cant, the gap in the web of the casting for the bearing caps at the bottom isnt big enough for the piston to come out
@Lifeistooshort674 ай бұрын
Ok. I Never experienced that type before.

Well it looks to me like that car has been sitting for a long tine with tyres that werent fully inflated. My experience also tells me that noise is most likey a brake pad rubbing on a slightly rusty brake disc or drum. To be expected going the tyres. Nothing abnormal here. Tyres are probably well past their date anyway, as per the rubber being that hard. Going to have about as much grip in the wet or on ice as oil has on polished metal.
@chuckwillingham31034 ай бұрын
Now technically speaking here the wheel didnt get the flat spot ... The tire did
@LygerTheCLaw4 ай бұрын
you can work flat spots out by moving the car periodically and letting it set outside on hot days. course the tires should of course just be replaced due to age at this point.

Remember seeing plenty in scrapyards in early 80s very rare now .😊 most 70s cars were real rotters at 10years old or even scrapped. 😢

Wow, it's a clone of the one I bought in the early 80's for £200, complete with go-fast stripe which must have been a factory option. The pillarless design was fantastic, especially in the Summer. I had the H120 engine with overdrive on 3rd and 4th making it A 7-speed box !! This was a fast car back in the day. Beautiful styling. Sold it and bought a mini. Both cars which I love.
