As I type this, I am next to the town where the hand-held electric hair dryer was first invented. Not the hair dryer itself, which I believe was in France and was a huge contraption. However, the hand-held blow dryer we use today was invented in Racine, Wisconsin. It's also neat to see that these old handheld blow dryers used only 200 watts on the low end and 300 watts on the high end. Modern blow dryers use 1,200 watts on the low end and up to 1,875 / 2,000 watts on the high end. Today's dryers produce more heat and airflow than their 1920s-1960s counterparts, and they are also a bit more complex. 🙂

Great job! I recently acquired a ‘60s-era space heater from my neighbor… it turns on, the coils heat up and the fan turns, but just slowly, and after a few seconds it just stops altogether. I’d really like to restore it but I have no idea what’s wrong with it. I blew compressed air to get rid of the dust but haven’t yet brushed the fan, etc. The connections appear to be solid, so I wonder if there’s a fuse or something I need to check?

I can only say that it was Dolly Parton style, that is, it respected the period style and gave a new look to an old device. Perfect!

Yeah not a bad restoration, i probably would have done a bit more sanding or putty filling on the body and frame work. Plus i dont think that the blue would have been from that ERA, i would have gone for an Ivory colour, just to set it off. But all in all a good restoration, thank you for sharing this with us, matey. 👍👍

Awesome job restoring the can sealer. Even more awesome is that you managed to create a new manufacturer's label for the machine. It looks much better and it works like a charm, even though you did not have an unsealed can to test it with. Still, it is excellent work.

That is not an ugly lamp, it’s a cool lamp! Yup I would paint the outside part of the shade hunter green, the white inner part of the shade would been painted with white primer, followed by a good coat of glow in the dark paint followed by a coat of clear coat. Base of lamp hunter green & the stem would be black! Then would be an awesome lamp to use every day! 👍👍
