Ben, could you have relied on luminosity / soft masks to select the different shades of tonality rather than going for hard masks especially for the last image?

Great explanation of the 'Why' Ben and I agree with most of your artistic decisions. Although I would not replace skies, I would try to find a different solution. But that's a highly personal decision I would always respect, whatever the solution. What I find important is the question: after it's shot and edited, can I still see the essence of the architectural design without making it a totally different building due to the artistic editing? And I can still see that in your images. Also very interested to know how you explain the part with the Artisan panel :)

I had a similar experience with my photo of the Ghery building. Insane amount of masking, and it turned out to be my least successful image from the shoot. I'd like to see the full editing process on U-turn, please.

Very dramatic editing changes. Great vision. First, I'd like to see you do the Walkie Bldg, since you said that was the simplest. Then second the Ghery bldg, to really show off your masking, gradient and other techniques. Thanks for doing these. It inspires me.

@benharveyphotography11 күн бұрын
Thanks Andreas, I think the key to a successful editing tutorial is making it succinct and logical (explaining why you use certain tools etc). When I watch editing tutorials I get lost very quickly and lose interest. My workflow have changed since some of my earlier tutorials, and i would say for the better. I look forward to sharing part 3 with you.
@andreaspetershtc9 күн бұрын
@benharveyphotography I think it probably makes sense not to explainn the most complicated example where you created 50 or more selections. Otherwise a lot of people probably loose the interest when they realize that this is nothing which you do in 10 minutes.
@scotty441812 күн бұрын
Very much lied your Redemption Roasters edit Ben and definitely done the right thing getting rid of the background clutter. I’ve still to edit my Gehry images as I can’t decide how I want the final edit to look but will take another look soon as your finished version showed it can be done 🙂
@benharveyphotography11 күн бұрын
Cheers Jim, as someone that has photographed and edited both of those buildings - did I over complicate it? That is the question. I would love to edit the Ghery building with less selections, but I wanted the control between all of the elements. Thanks for sharing the locations once again.

I obviously did not look up enough when I was last in London! I stayed just across the Thames by the Tower Bridge. Terrific images. I love 14. U-turn, but watching any of them processed will be terrific. Sorry I missed this video two months ago!

Beautiful images! Love your fine-art images. Somehow, I missed part #1! I feel like a very lazy editor after watching this! ;-) Happy to see any of the images processed. It might be interesting to see the one _you_ like the most processed and why if it does not happen to coincide with the audience's choice. Just a thought. Cheers!

Which image from the shoot was your favourite, and can we see the edit please?
@benharveyphotography11 күн бұрын
That’s a good question. When I first edited them, I picked out my favourites and put them on my website. That may change over time, but I like Domino (because of its simplicity) I quite like Flatiron and the Curvature images. I tend to prefer simple more graphical compositions.
@chirsd66612 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing, Ben! I would suggest you choose whichever image is the least complicated to walk-through, and one with some sky replacement so we can see how you handle that.
@benharveyphotography11 күн бұрын
I think that a simpler more ‘accessible’ would be best also, so that more people could follow along and not feel overwhelmed. I think that some of the more simple images are more effective anyway.

I’ve been hoping you would do something like this for a while now.I’m looking forward to your full edit video. I’ve been working with Joels panel for a little while and there is a definite learning curve to using it. I’m hoping your edit will incorporate it. My vote for the shot is either of the Gehry buildings. He’s amazing!

Hi Joe, yes part 3 will involve using the Artisan Pro panel. I edited all of the images that I have already shared using the 2021 version, however since I switched to mac I am now using the latest version that works with Photoshop CC.

Do you have a review of Tamaron 28-200mm vs 28-300mm?
@benharveyphotography20 күн бұрын
I have not used the 28-300 unfortunately. There are comparisons online though. I think that it suffers at the long end a bit, but if you use the right technique and shoot at the lens’ optimum aperture I would probably be OK with the results for landscape images.

One note for that location is that Thurne mill is active at times (well it was the last time I went a few years ago) So - the top of the mill rotates and that means it will look different day to day or week to week. Not sure how often it runs but thought it was worth mentioning :)
