Excellent explanation on how to select a turbo based on a power target. However, I'm curious about how one can safely determine the appropriate power target for the engine components in the first place.

Hey bud thanks for the info. I got to watch this like 10 times on repeat to understand it. But it's not your fault it's my brains. I was thinking of using a Mitsubishi td04l 13 t , to turbo a b20 with a b18 vtec head. What are your thoughts?

When warranty expires I wish to swap my mild hybrid diesel Jaguar XE engine with petrol charged hybrid from F-pace. Judging by the vehicle schematics available out there this will probably turn into pushing the F-pace engine and parts of its drive train along with its mother ECU, and much of the interior into the XE chasis and exterior. That resolves the issues of finding the right electronics, sensors, parts etc. And creates an issue of "how the hell to I put that in that space without breaking it or causing some other troubles". Oh... and I should quote you MZopyrus :) "It is financially dumb idea!" And most likely I will get 0 support from JLR and in the 500 km radius I doubt there are any skilled mechanics willing to meddle with the British engines/cars in such manner. I was also thinking of placing an old V6 AJ123 engine from F-type or XE-S models. But who knows what will happen. Getting that engine and rebuilding it and then doing a swap... Yes. ('-.- ) In the end, looking at the costs of the engine, the amount of mechanical work and time... I could just go and buy a new car with desired HP and MPG. Staying rational cannot take away my dreams <3 One can always dream <3

I'm researching turbos for a Pontiac 400 (I'd go with a supercharger, but the GTO already gets crappy fuel economy). I'd like to find a setup, like a Mercedes AMG, that has little to no lag. Else, I'll go with a supercharger.

I want to turbo charge my 2004 Nissan maxima going to swap to a six speed manual. I know that these cars already relatively high compression ratio I was thinking, may be running low boost🤔 if I’m not mistaken, the compression ratio may be lower for the manual than it is for the automatic. The automatics compression ratio is 10.

Hi. I have a m4 with a pops and bang tune and I did a spark plug and oil change and the car started misfiring. I checked compression,coils,injections,spark plugs and they all fine but the car still misfiring. On a diagnostic test it doesn’t even showing up codes sometimes or it will say misfire detection injector switched off cylinder 5 then it will stop showing it and bring up a different cylinder. Could the misfiring be caused by the tune or do I have a faulty motor

Not to be a weirdo, but Im estimating we are relatively close to the same build and size roughly? 5'9" 170ish? If so I may copy your setupfor my 04 MSM build. I love the seats and wheel in your NA and I imagine they will look just as good in my built turbo car as well.

O.K. 25 years ago I bought a book and read through it and for me it took some time, this guy explains it so quickly and accurately, he did skip the exhaust housing size, but they are easy to swap, one of my cars I went from a 0.86 to a 1.02 A/R and gained a lot top end and lost very little at lower RPM. Current build is a N54. I'm a full time dyno tuner and a mechanic for 37 years and this was a great refresher

Do these calculations vary between single or twin turbo setups?
@jimbojimson17 күн бұрын
I can't seem to find anybody to explain this to me, but why does it seem like 4 cylinders with monster turbos commonly seen on drag cars just... don't follow these rules? How does it still work?? The Red Demon, for example, makes 1,800 horsepower from a 2.0L through a single turbo, and the pressure ratio is almost 7.5:1. It's double the highest pressure ratio of the least efficient island on the compressor map, and exists entirely to the left of the surge line! How is it not just moving hot air, and how does it not surge?? Not an anomaly, either. 4G63s are raced with S480 and GT42 turbos very commonly, and when you try to plot the specs on a compressor map is always in surge at the lower to mid range (sometimes the entire line) and it always goes well above the map because they require such a high pressure ratio. I've tried asking a few guys I know in the DSM community who run big turbo cars how they get away with such high pressure ratios and avoid surge, and the universal answers seem to be: -"What's a pressure ratio?" -"Ignore the compressor map, just pick a turbo for the power you plan to make" -"I don't know about any of that stuff, it just works"
