i only own a old lenovo (5th gen i3), it's sturdy and everything, no hinge issue, but still want to try something a bit more classic, like a clicky keyboard thinkpad...

I have a Lenovo Extreme 4k. Running 4k on a 15 inch display isn't stupid at all. Its perfect for 4k content and windows 11. Once you experience it. It's difficult to go back to anything below 1080p.

reminds me of my math teacher. He used a Libretto 50CT running Slackware for all of his presentations until 2015. Back then I was amused but as I grew older I slowly realized that you really don't need the newest tech. Running Linux Mint now on an old Toshiba Satellite and ThinkPad T430. They boot faster than my Win10 desktop gaming machine, haha PS: you should've given Linux a try, much more usable than most ppl think, in fact I only find stuff that's better. Wanted to use my printer using Win10 today. No drivers available. My Linux powered T430 found and added the printer automatically and I can print no problem.

I have a beautiful Japanese Panasonic Let's note CF-SV1 (modern intel 11th gen laptop with VGA and a bluray drive, fun stuff like that) and once i figured out how to get Haiku booting via UEFI and grub, I was able to have it running alongside my main Linux install on bare metal, no emulation whatsoever, and i think the only thing that didnt work was the touchpad and wifi which I expected. its impressive how good the modern hardware support is on this OS

When you were trying to install Haiku on the T410 and it wouldn't bring up the window to let you install the OS to your harddrive, it was probably just booting straight to "Try Haiku" and if you had navigated to the Deskbar (top right corner) under 'Applications' theres a program called 'Installer' that will launch that and let you install to the harddrive.

I think you are trying to access repositories at a time when Haiku is transitioning to Beta 5. The Beta 4 repositories are not available at the moment. The problem you are having is not normal, I think the haiku servers are moving to Beta 5. Give it a few days, it will be resolved.

I have Hiaku running on a I5-10600k, Asus Rog Strix Z490E mobo. Extremely stable. Wifi and Ethernet work.

as someone who uses premiere pro, i really need more than 8GB of RAM but i still torture myself by using ancient laptops like my arch inspiron with a dgpu which stands for dead gpu the only modern generation intel device i have is a surface pro from 2017 with 7th gen, from there its all haswell down

Today (8/19/24), I am now the proud owner of my own Lenovo Thinkpad W701DS. I got mine used and in pretty rough condition, with a dead battery and the door for the PC Card MIA... Though she is a strong unit, and she's taken a Windows 10 installation proudly. When I looked at the specifications, I was impressed. I knew this laptop was rare, and followed the advice of this exact video to pick it up. I collect laptops, and this one is a real treat. i7-Q720 @ 1.6GHz, 20GB DDR3-1600, 128GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD, and an Nvidia Quadro FX 3800M. P.S. Snappy Driver Installer got my finger print scanner working on Windows 10 Pro.

Windows 10 early releases would be the best choice here. 360p was never considered high quality on the internet just necessary.

Linux is so much better. That'll also open up way more options than just two modern operating systems.
