I tried to create a mix of shots. In addition to the typical long shot, there are clips of people with decoration in the background (focus more on the background) vs. clips of people enjoying the surrounding decor (focus more on the foreground). I had to setup and shoot quick, so there was often no time to check camera settings for a particular shots. Apologies in advance for a few overexposures. Shot on a Lumix S5IIX in VLog and graded in Resolve Studio 19. I tried to create a grade that was in between a documentary (sharp, richly colored) and a traditional film look (less saturated and lower contrast). I had to ditch seven clips because of people walking into the tripod which I had tethered to me. What a night ... blah, blah ... hope you enjoy it and have the opportunity to visit for yourself. Merry Christmas!

@@L5-SAR Can't wait! THIS is the light I'm looking at. Please compare briefly with TK30, my logical 2nd choice. Is this big tank worth the weight difference...
@L5-SAR
@L5-SAR 5 күн бұрын
@@PictureChasers I gave the TK30 away to a police department. Only dedicated LEP I can compare with is from Nextorch. The LEP on the LR36R is not going to compete with top-end standalone LEP lights. Thank you.

@@L5-SAR I like that LR36R has nice mix of throw and flood, plus I suspect the top end lights you're referring to are big and hundreds more.
@L5-SAR
@L5-SAR 4 күн бұрын
@@PictureChasers That flood/LEP combo has some interesting potential uses. I explored some of these when I field tested the Nitecore P35i, but the LR36R seems easier to carry. This is important since I'm mostly a ground-based asset. Thank you.

I'm quite happy with my Powertac M5 Gen 3, but I have been really tempted by the flat designs for years. The manual operation is also a plus here... Would you suggest the EDC29 as a step up from the Powertac, considering the flat design as the chief interest?
@L5-SAR
@L5-SAR 10 күн бұрын
The M5 G3 is higher candela - a different type of beam. So much depends on your use cases. At the high end, the EDC29 is more lumens but only for seven seconds. Might check out the battery endurance tests for both the M5G3 and the EDC29 and see what you think. Good luck!

@L5-SAR 14 күн бұрын
Outstanding question. I just took it into the bedroom which is pretty dark and the absolute extent of the spill is just slightly less than the extent of my peripheral vision. So, I'd guess close to 130 degrees as an upper bound. The brightest part of the flood, however, looks to be less than 90 degrees. Thank you.

Does it really can last up to 1:50hrs continuously usage on a turbo setting like it is advertised?
@L5-SAR
@L5-SAR 16 күн бұрын
At that exact output level, no. What is advertised by most all vendors is ANSI FL-1 run time which is the amount of time to burn down from the specified output level to ten percent of that level. The laboratory burn-down curves are available at fenixlighting.com . Thank you.

That was about the most detailed gear review I've ever seen. Not for me, but I clearly understand the use cases for such a light. This field test was just what I needed to make a decision one way or the other as I had heard about this light and was initially very curious.

This is a long video, so I elected to cover this small point in a pinned comment. If you wear this light clipped onto the strap of your pack, the angle at the top will make it inconvenient for a right-hand draw and immediate deploy. Left-hand is fine or right hand and then flip around before use. Again, something to think about. Thank you.

Hello. I would like to make a small request, it might not be practical for you, but it would be interesting to check how the lamps behave when used when there is fog, rain or above the water surface. Calm and rippled surfaces affect the passage of light differently. Lamps from multiple sources during a collision with a water surface or water droplets they can become totally unusable or better than lamps with only one source. It would be necessary to check. I am a fisherman and there is often fog over the water. Thanks.
@L5-SAR
@L5-SAR 18 күн бұрын
I occasionally do rain exposure tests. There are a few on the channel. I've also done a few 'torture' or stress tests. I have not yet had a chance to film a fog test, although any white light is going to have issues. I have access to a dedicated blue light that I have used in the past with fog. Having a light that has a blue filter might help your case. Thanks for the detailed suggestion.

@L5-SAR Nitecore and some other manufacturers like boruit, etc., etc. have several lamps that I am interested in, but they hide like a snake's legs information about how the lamps behave in unfavorable conditions. Many KZbinrs have their products in reviews, but there is no benefit from it. They all shoot in ideal conditions. Maybe a little rain and snow. They put the lamp in the lumen tester and if a lamp doesn't provide a lot of lux, it's bad. I use and have used various cheap and some popular lamps when fishing and in winter it is mostly ok when it is cold. As soon as it gets a little warm, the lamps overheat, and in conditions of high humidity in front of you you simply cannot see anything. Thank you for your effort and of course thank you for your answer.

I have done battery endurance tests on several Nitecore models. I did a stress test on the EDC 33 and 35 which caused the 35 to fail. That video is for the SAR Team (private community). I've also done several (two hour or more) rain tests of Fenix and other lights. Hope to do more in the future, but it requires the exact right set of weather circumstances at night. Thank you.

Eight months later here, but this light is on the way in transit and so I came across this video; do you know if the step downs are due to heat or battery drain? In other words, if one were to toggle between high and lower modes as needed, might the step downs be held farther out?
@L5-SAR
@L5-SAR 18 күн бұрын
Step down is to avoid heat and lights do require a certain amount of power to obtain and sustain a particular output level. You can increase overall battery endurance to a degree by toggling between say Med/High and running much more in Med. Every time you switch back to high and start out at the top output level, though, it's burning battery at that top-output rate. You may arbitrage the step down but are still burning battery at a higher rate. Always a trade off :) Thank you.

My main interest in this flashlight is in hopes that it can be used as flood only. Very similar to the Nightcore TM 20. The problem with the TMT is that it’s $300 and I just don’t feel like buying another one, since I dropped my flashlight so so much they eventually break. $100 for a flashlight like this is a lot more desirable if it has flood only capability. Does it have flood only capability?
