For those keeping up with all the details of the channel, I'm still in a major time crunch due to family issues. My #1 priority (beyond family) is to create content for the SAR Team (private community on the channel). I hope to release a couple public reviews a month going forward. In that regard, I'm going back to the origins of the channel and only field testing gear that has a high probability of making it into one of my SAR load outs, my EDC rotation, or supporting my work in videography. Thank you.

Great review. I am going to get this headlamp next month, and you did a great job covering all the things I wanted to see. I love the way you took it for an extended period of time to do a proper review. Spot on, and you earned a new subscriber...

Well, thank you. I should hire you as director of marketing :). I hope to film part 2 soon. I'm going through some serious issues with my elderly mother. She's been in the hospital twice in the last week - this time from a bad fall. Fractured C2 vertebrae. So, i can't vouch for when part 2, the turbo time lapse burn down, and one or two extended exercises at the LBJ Grasslands will be filmed. Thanks again and good luck to you.

wow this is actually incredible. i have had the hp25r v2 for over 3 years now, use it 5 days a week. i am in the market for a new light becuase the hp25r is experiencing some sever issues the past couple weeks. this is probably the one ill get

Do u feel like the flood spills out good enough, I have the 25 , and happy with that spill , I really want to like this like light , use mine for walking at night on a country road ,.thanks
@L5-SAR4 ай бұрын
Look at the field of view chapter in the video. Both the flood and spot have a very hard edge. There are significant dark areas by your feet and side to side while looking straight ahead. If you're just out walking at night, the HP35R is likely to be overkill. Keep a backup flashlight with you that has good throw to complement your existing headlamp that you already use an like. Hope that helps.

I think the flood should always be wider than the spot. I like the perimeter of the beam to reach close to my toes. A full flood or mule style light as they call it can do that. I like to use a Zebralight full flood light on my waist and a smooth spot on my head. The full flood lights have a short throw but have a huge spread and should always go along with a spot to cover everything.
@L5-SAR3 ай бұрын
Agreed. This is the big flaw with the combined mode on the HP35R.
@davidsawmandave87313 ай бұрын
@L5-SAR when I walk , I only use the flood on high on my 25 , seems good enough but the battery seems to be failing sortof quickly , I don't use the spot unless I wanna look in the field so u really feel like the flood has too many dark edges

How would you compare the spill of this light compared to the Nitecore H65 UHE from your previous tests. It seems better in this light, but am not sure.
@L5-SAR5 ай бұрын
You ask outstanding questions. HP35R has a very hard edge for both flood and spot - kind of reminds me of LedLenser. The H65 UHE has a smoother and wider beam. Thank you.

What is your favorite just pure flood headland no down range up close so you can see everything off to your left and right?
@L5-SAR5 ай бұрын
I'm still kind of digging the Nitecore HC65 UHE - gives you kind of the best of both. Going to do a more extensive test of that one once I get past my current time crunch with my Mother's health issues. Thank you.

I bought some Fenix lights, including this product, for very long night hikes I plan to do next month. My main worry is the light not lasting an entire 9 hour night on a bright setting. Fenix lights promise long run times on top of high quality builds. Hopefully it turns out well. A light that will only last 2-3 hours is not useful when I want to be out sunset to sunrise.
@L5-SAR5 ай бұрын
The downrange you get from Low/Med Spot alone should be sufficient for a lot of night hikes (with the ability to go up into High for short intervals as needed). That gives you more than enough run time with the ability to extend run time with a power bank. I stay out all night regularly with the HP30R V2 running mostly on M/H Spot with occasional use of combined spot/flood. Thank you.

Compared to HP30r v2 which is the best for you?
@L5-SAR5 ай бұрын
That's the big question. I'm going to defer that to the detailed comparison review between the two. Thank you.

@@L5-SAR I would like to see that comparison for sure!
@L5-SAR2 ай бұрын
It's up to be filmed next. I just got back from the LBJ Grasslands, filming two videos for the SAR Team. The comparison will likely be filmed early next week. It's been a long and arduous time dealing with my mother and the results of her two bad falls over the last 2 1/2 months. Thank you.
