You should not have cut the dash, this is terrible. I'd rather have cut the door panels than the dash. I know why you did it, but hacking the dash for a speaker...big no no.

Someone hacked the crap out of my bug dash. I had it put back to stock with a donor dash. Had it been done cleanly I may have left it. But was a def hack job.

No guard on the Flex, fingers in the line of the disc. No risc- no fun. Old school mechanic🙂

Thank god I caught this video only one day old. PLEASE DO NOT DESTROY THAT DOOR PANEL BY CUTTING IT. I know you are new to Volkswagens but find a Volkswagen friend who knows and understands the value of original German parts. If you want to customize a VW buy a later model from the 1970s those are not worth as much. I could go on for days but I’ll stop. I’m not a purist. I just respect a very rare VW.

Roger, that shakey thing you discribed is likely the rubber mount at the front of the transaxle. Be careful not to rev it hard on take off it'll feel like wheel hop. Cheap fix and worth doing anyways.

I like the chrome pieces that go up the fender. The long ones you showed, use those.

Oil likes to leak at pushrod tubes Hit that paint with some polish and you will be amazed. I had your cars twin when in high school.

If everything else was all original, i'd say don't cut. But seeing as there's metalwork done and the dash is cut. It's not that big a deal.

Emil Jellinek (sp?) raced and sold Daimler cars and had a weird tick where he thought his second daughter’s name was lucky so he named lots of things after Mercedes. He is where the name came from. He was friendly with Daimler, Maybach, and Porsche. Daimler and Benz merged in the mid-20s and became Mercedes Benz. At least that’s what I got from my tour of the museum, the second best car company in the town I live in, Stuttgart.
