I love this so much but I feel like there are parts of Henry's character, which Corbin Bernson plays fantastically, that got missed, which I understand. There are things about his character that make him more unlikeable than most of the other main characters. If we talk about things that Henry is, we find that. Henry is the "Boomer" parent in a show that has a very Gen X/Millennial vibe and voice. He is a person with flaws and trauma of his own. He is a person with very high standards for himself and others. He is a person who cares very deeply about justice and protecting others, with a strict moral code. A big one that gets overlooked is that Henry is present and active in Shawn's life, which could only have been intentional. Law enforcement as a profession is not easy on family life, with things like long hours and lots of stress. Shawn could only have the skills he has because Henry made a dedicated and consistent effort over a years long period of Shawn's life to be there and be an active person in his son's upbringing. He continues to be there for Shawn through the show despite having issues with the way Shawn does things. Henry loves, cares about, and worries about Shawn. He and Shawn have very different ideas of what is right or wrong. They both have a strong sense of justice but Henry is Lawful Good while Shawn is Chaotic Good. Henry's chosen profession also means that he constantly interacts with the darker parts of life and society, and he has trauma because of it. This may be where the controlling aspect of his character comes from and why it's so important to him that Shawn has these skills. He is trying to protect and prepare Shawn for the world as he deals with it at work. Also Early in the show Shawn is very vocally harboring a deep, years-long resentment for Henry because Henry "walked out" on Shawn's mother. Shawn learns later in the show that his mother initiated their divorce after Shawn graduated high school. Henry let Shawn believe otherwise because he didn't want Shawn to think badly of his mother, which shows how much he cared for her as well even after they divorced. There are also a lot of things that Henry is not, which deserve attention too. Henry is not a good parent in a lot of ways, he tries very hard to do the best he can with the skills, time, and experiences life has given him but it's not always enough. Henry is not tolerant of people who fall short of his expectations, but it doesn't seem to be a double standard as he holds himself to that same high bar. Henry is not a dirty cop, throughout his career he is never seen taking bribes or abusing his power as a police officer. The closest we get is when he breaks down the door of a bombing suspect, who tried to blow up his police station, without a warrant. When he finds out that his friends on the police force are dirty they try to kill him because they know he's probably going to turn them in. Henry is not biased, Early in the show he uses the term "broad" and some other ignorant things but that aspect of his character is quickly dropped as the show goes on. I can't recall him being disparaging about the LGBTQ+ community. He treats Gus as a second son and never has issue with people based on race. He is never dismissive or disrespectful to Juliet or Chief Vic. In all Henry is the oldest of the main characters and has had a life that has left him with a lot of baggage that can make him hard to like. But he loves his family, is a pillar in Shawn's life, cares about justice and doing what's right, and is a skilled detective that is there for his son when Shawn comes to him for help.

My absolute favourite thing about the show upon rewatch is how well Gus complements Shawn. Gus is utterly un-dazzled (couldn't find the right word...) by Shawn's genius - he knows he's smart, but he also knows he's a fucking idiot. And, moreover, he's friends with the idiot, not the genius, so when Shawn gets into shenanigans he's generally down for the fuckery. He might play the straight man, but he definitely IS NOT. And that's wonderful

I had a bad experience with someone who I thought was a friend where I was actively being trapped by them. I was also given the excuse that they would not "have to" trap me if I would just behave. I've somehow never heard those circumstances outright described as abusive or unacceptable before. This video is taking me forever to watch because it keeps bringing up things, but its also a very helpful and validating resource. Thank you.

1:52:24 hey girl, i love this video but this is coocoo behavior. Just because a man is comfortable with himself, does not mean he's bisexual. It's Andrew Garfield being himself, and as long as he says otherwise, he is not bisexual. When we see women caring for and admiring eachother we don't start calling them lesbos! Sisterhood is a non sexual thing. Bromance is also a non sexual thing. Any straight person who loves their best friend would say - if i were gay I'd date you. Doesn't mean they're gay. Saying things like this makes men even more insecure about their friendships. Thus, men become afraid of being vulnerable to their friends.

The other thing that really bothers me is the bdsm vs abuse conversations I've seen in the BL fandoms. People romanticizing Vegas & Pete but condemning the couple in My Personal Weatherman.

This show is: A great Holmes like mystery show, (I would say the best ive ever seen) a very emotional and character focused show, and a hilarious comedy. So many reviews I watch only talk about 1 or 2 of these 3 things but its a disservice not to say its all 3. I have the DVDS for this show and i watched them so much as a teen and I recently rewatched the entire seriess and its just as good. Its dramatic, emotional, funny, clever, and overall the best detective or comedy show I've ever seen. Super underated, the show is still engaging to me even though ive seen the entire show.

1:16:20 I deadass stopped the vid and went to go watch Clue. Shit was funny as hell, the joke of everyone checking their shoe after smelling Tim Curry was great. My favorite joke was probably them Weekend's at Bernie's-ing the bodies and the subsequent conversation between Tim Curry and the cop.

1:20 "and John Green was right there in the trenches with us." Yes, I'm sure he was deep in those trenches. 1:26 "and it made his fans feel more connected to him" He certainly liked connecting with fans, can't deny that. 1:56 do I think it matters how many people someone has slept with? Well if that someone is 14 and the number is more than zero, then yeah, kinda. Who is your audience here, and what brought this topic up, John? 2:44 "the image that just popped into your head" No, that's my screen, not my head. My mind exists outside of the internet. Also, no hate, but that image has kinda been on my screen for almost three minutes, now. 4:17 "for... reasons." Yes. For reasons. That is why people do things. For reasons. So uhh... what were those reasons? What was the original comment that started all of this?

Hi all- I feel like a bit of an interloper here- I've come upon Good Omens fairly recently, and although I havent actually watched the TV shows yet, just the video clips online about a thousand times, I've become totally obsessed with the whole thing - fandom/ analysis etc. I asked my son for a copy of the Good Omens book for Xmas, and am on my second reading of it. I am what some would consider an 'old lady' in my 60s, who has only recently realised that I and most of my family are neuro divergent- (finally, things make sense!) - and I'm LEARNING so much from all these discussions! Diversity, in general, wasnt something that was discussed when I was growing up. So I'd just like to say a big THANK YOU to you all for expanding my knowledge on diversity. There is so much to unpick/unpack in Good Omens, and I feel like I'm now using my brain again, and actually feeling emotion again after feeling dead inside since my divorce 12 or so years ago. Does that make sense? I dont feel so isolated and weird now that I am part of this crazy fandom. Thank you all! ❤

As a queer person in my early 20s who loves Heartstopper (especially since I never got to experience anything remotely close to exploring my own queerness in high school because I didn't know I was queer), seeing queer people (yes, I'm talking about Verilyvitchy's snippet) call it "boring", or "made for straight audiences", or that sort of thing really irks me. I don't understand the "boring" part at all, but I guess anyone can find anything boring. But, why is it so wrong that it's simple? Why is it so wrong that it's sweet and not complicated? It's supposed to be a light-hearted show, but some people speak of it as a bland cashgrab. Which to me feels disingenuous. The point of the show is to be a coming of age love story. It's mostly apolitical, yes, but I still think there's place in media for that. It's a series that feels like a safe haven from the bs that is happening in the world. It's a short story. Not every single queer story has to be about the struggles. There has to be space for queer joy, unburdened of the crap of real life. And "bisexuals are messy" as a jab at Nick for being too sweet is a stupid argument. Sorry for the rant, Heartstopper just holds a very special place in my heart.

We're... currently almost a year out from cutting off our abuser to the best of our ability, as we live together, and I am too disabled to work or drive. Despite us (plural system, expect many first-person Us/We pronouns) being promised help by our parents with getting a therapist, or just about any other kind of support, we've received no such thing this entire time. And in fact we keep feeling pressured by every angle to forgive the person, presumably because *they* all "feel awkward" about the situation. The only "support" we got from any of our friends, whom was a big help just having someone to talk to and plan out the confrontation, was also nearly completely cut off themselves from the mutual friend group at large including being banned from our own home, seemingly just because of our abuser's sheer influence. We haven't seen them basically since that day last year. In fact most/all of our mutual friends at the time, including my own partner, remain friends with our abuser to this day. Especially in social media circles, which is shockingly hard to escape. The thought of forgiving it has crossed our mind countless times this past year, but we have to keep reminding ourselves of what it did, and how we know it hasn't changed. We could write a wall about specifics, but it wouldn't be constructive. Not to mention how every new detail is a whole can of worms. We're trying to do everything we can despite our circumstances, but... it just really really sucks, having "gotten out" but still feeling so trapped and without support. We wish we had a more positive note to end this comment on, but it's all still in stasis sadly.

Recommendations!: I Want To Be A Wall is about an aro/ace girl and a gay boy who get lavender married, I have yet to read the last volume but my sister did and she said the whole series is great! One of the protagonists loves BL because she, as an aro/ace person, can’t relate to what’s going on and can just enjoy the story. Also the manga She Loves To Cook And She Loves To Eat is so good omfg! It also has a show, if you don’t like to read. The romance is pretty slow paced, but in between the couple getting together there’s tons of other queer plotlines! There’s an ace character (yay!) , the story dives into heteronormativity, sexism and familial abuse, while still feeling lighthearted! Also the novel Make The Season Bright! It’s a Christmas rom com staring 2 woman, and it has a supporting cast of non binary, gay, bi, aro and queer characters of all stripes! And it has some of the best written and sweet sex scenes I’ve ever read. Like ever. Also Go For It Nakamura is super cute, you’ve probubly seen the memes. And I think it’s getting an anime adaptation so yay..!
