Nicely done With your Spanish moss! I didn't even know that it bloomed! What does it smell like???

I ordered live sphagnum moss from a Canadian man who goes to a local bog and cleans it so super well. Excellent quality product. And it stayed good for so long. And from that moss I swear it just helped my rescue orchids recover so fast. At least that was how it seemed to me. I used it for a lot of things and from those I actually have live spaghetti that grew a year later in a couple of my pots and now I am harvesting it to grow myself! After a bad purchase of Chilean moss.. or "zombie moss" as you called it and I quite like that term. But it has caused a lot of issue with my plants I used it with.

Btw. Really smart with the curved scissors. I have a tiny pair ofnose gair trimmers... Lol that i use for my fine root plants. But i honestly never realized to consider there were bigger ones i should use for my other plants with tougher roots.

I'm trying to grow live moss on top of standard spag in self watering pots. It takes a loooooong time to grow 😅 (at least the kind I have does), but I'm hoping it will stop ciano from forming on the top. I'm not a fan of bark in my environment, and thus far have done well with a mix of leca and moss (depending on the plant). If anyone else has done this successfully, would love to hear your experience-have heard some people say it lowers oxygen to the plants but I'm not too concerned if it's just a top layer and the pot has airflow beneath.

I dont like bark as a medium for epiphytes either, but I still do like them mounted so I grow them on terracotta, designed as little twigs or stems, depending on the size of the stems ( my miniatures are mounted on equally tiny pieces). It has the same functions as terracotta pots, so its able to suck up quite a bit of water in itself and the surface is also a bit rough and has carved in ridges to provide a better surface for the roots to grip on. Im also growing some tropical mosses wich I attach in patches to the media. Unlike Sphagnum, it attaches itself to the media over time as it grows, just like the mounted plants, allowing to remove the threads after some time, wich I really like. It ends up covering the entire media and grows a whole lot slower and finer than sphagnum, lowering the risk of it overgrowing the actual plant. Downside is that these types of moss cant take up nearly as much water as sphagnum, so I have to watch out for moisture even more carefully. I do love sphagnum as a top layer for carnivores tho, like Drosera or Nepenthes, and grow two types of sphagnum, one native to europe for my houseplants and one tropical for my terrarium plants.

First time I see your channel, very impressive ! Orchids are very pretty and healthy looking. What approach do you have or recommend when your orchids are infected with thrips or any other diseases. I am currently struggling with thrips. HELP!!

Funny how I find a similar building I’m working on and instantly fall in love with the setup. By any chance what settings do you have for the humidity level so that the mister kicks on ? And what’s your max temp for fans to kick on? Thank you in advance.

Got my first mounted orchids two weeks ago from J&L in Connecticut. Gastrochilus japonicus (East Asia) - Fragrant Bulbophyllum barbigerum (Western/Central Africa) Foul Fragrance - I thought this one would not need as much watering and I liked the foliage.

Wow 🤩 thx for a great idea for the Spanish moss hanger! I just ordered one and am trying to figure out how to hang it . I am so going to do this and maybe buy a few more to have a really cool long curtain effect. I can hang it in my window that needs a curtain! Plus it will get some sunlight. I am excited to try this. I will update you when it arrives and put in place to let you know how it works out 👍👏

CLOUDFOREST VIBES......I don't think SPANISH MOSS is the way to go if you want something to help your orchid retain moisture. It is a LIVE AIR PLANT and it will compete with growth and dominate your orchid. You should use SPAGNUM MOSS for moisture or use the COCONUT FIBER.
